What's wrong with me?

Chapter 4: CHAPTER 3

''Rin, Derek, come on! get up. You'll be late...'' Dorin's voice rang through the house. it was already 6am, and they had to be in school before 7am, since the sports and athletics competitons were being held. This was the only time of the year that children of all ages were divided into groups and they were basically given choices in choosing what they wanted to do, like participate in indoor or outdoor sports, or gear up for the athletics meet.

Trinity was more of an outdoor sports person, so she was taking part in athletics, long jump and volley ball. This was the only time of the year that she did some exercise, otherwise she just worked and lazed around under her spot; her mango tree.

Trinity got out of bed and rushed to the washroom to brush and relieve herself. As she looked in the mirror, she noticed her dark brown hair was a mess, almost like it had been hit by a tornado. She looked a lot like her father, the same hair, tanned skin, brown eyes and she was tall. She only inherited her moms' smile, with dimples.

She groaned as she tried to untangle her mane, wishing she had short hair like her bestie, Britannia Strachan. She got into her uniform, which was a navy blue skirt, a white shirt, and a jacket with the letters CFHS printed at the back. It had the schools full name printed in the front pocket; Craven Falls High School. This was in pink for girls, and dark blue for boys.

Within half an hour, both children were stuffing chicken sandwich and orange juice, which Annabelle had prepared, and were both running through the door, towards Trinity's car.

''Mom, please can you pick up Derek after school?'' Trinity asked her mom before their mother could get in her own car.

''Why? Where will you go?'' Dorin asked her, stopping to look towards her.

''I have to start work early today.''

''Rin, how many times do I ….''

''Thanks mom! love you! bye,'' Trinity shouted, cutting her mother off, while driving her violet Kia Sorento out of the driveway, leaving her mother baffled. She didn't want to hear another lecture on why she needed to quit her job because it made her mom and dad look bad and what others are saying behind their backs and all that sort of stuff. She didn't really care what people thought about her behind her back, she wasn't born to please anyone anyway; and for all she cared, her mother shouldn't really care about what people said as well, since she didn't care what people said when she divorced her father and married another man, right?

After dropping Derek off at his school she parked her car in her schools parking lot, got out and made her way straight to her classroom and dumped her bag on her chair before making her way to the training grounds where there was a meeting to decide who made it to the finals.

In Craven Falls High, the students didn't have a locker like other schools, but instead they kept their bags with them in the classroom, since it was easier to excess the book they needed for their next class because instead of the students changing rooms in between periods, the teachers did. That meant they got to stay in one room, unless it was a lab class, where they moved to the laboratory.

''Ah, Trinity, thank you for joining us! I thought you've forgotten about our meeting,'' Mr. Herman Steep exclaimed as Trinity reached the meeting area. ''Did you oversleep, again??'' This time she heard the other students muffled laughter.

''I'm sorry sir,'' she said slowly looking at the ground.

''Never be late to my class again; clear?''

''Yes sir.''

''As I was saying those of you selected will be required to have thing ready....'' Mr. Steep continued as Trinity made her way to Britannia and sat beside her.

''Someone's in a bad mood today,'' Britannia whispered, gesturing towards their master, while leaning closer to Trinity, so no one would hear them.

''He just hates me.''

''Why's he always so mean to you?''

''Patrick once refused to take his fathers case or something. He just hates me ever since.''

''Oh,'' was the only reply from the fair blue eyed girl.

''Do you girls have something to share with the rest of the us?'' Mr. Steeps voice startled both girls.

''No,'' they both replied simultaneously.

''THEN STAY QUIET!'' He snapped.

All the students got up as the bell for first period rang, and as Trinity and Britannia turned to leave, they heard someone call Trinity from behind. Turning back, they saw a tall slender girl waving at them. The whole school had nicknamed her 'Rapunzel' because of the long thick jet black hair, that was ankle length. Call it genetics or just good luck, but her hair was so beautiful and voluminous, it looked like a long straight highway, running down the hill. Of course her nickname was a secret amongst the students, as she thought someone saying anything about her hair will bring bad luck which will eventually lead to hair fall. ''Hey Travalonia, what's up?'' Trinity called as she neared them.

''I'm celebrating my birthday next week and I wanted to invite you both,'' she said, handing her and Britannia an invitation card. ''Both of you have to come.''

''Sure.''

School went on as usual, until lunch time. All students bought their own lunch from home and ate in their own classrooms. Trinity and Britannia always ate together, mostly talking about class projects or their favorite TV shows. They were mostly joined by their friend, Kadisha Page, but it seemed today she didn't show up at school since no one had seen her. Ever since her fathers death, she had become distant from everyone. Once a very lively person, she'd enclosed herself in her own bubble.

''Hey Brit, will you go to Rapunzel's party?'' Trinity asked her BFF.

''Maybe.''

''What do you mean?''

''Well, I don't know... I didn't really think she wanted to invite me... I mean she's never invited me to her place, and now all of a sudden she invites me, out of the blue... doesn't add up,'' she replied with a shrug.

''I guess you're right, something did seem off.''

After school, she got into her car, hoping that her mom remembered to pick Derek up, and drove towards town, to the diner. Since she would be starting work at 5pm, she had plenty time to spare and since she hadn't changed yet, she'll be able to in the diner staffroom.

After reaching the parking spot, she saw the time and it was 4.30pm, so she decided that she'd get to drink her favorite cappuccino before starting her shift, since the food and drink was free for the staff.

''What are you doing here?,'' she was startled by a voice behind her. Turning around, she saw Patricia Comings, her co-worker, who was supposed to have her day-off today.

''I should be asking you the same question; I thought it was your day-off, so what're you doing here?'' Trinity asked her. They were both staring at each other in shock.

The short brunet answered after some time, ''Cupidra called me in the morning asking me to do your shift.''

''Wait what? she called you?'' Trinity asked in shock.

''You can ask her if you want,'' the other girl replied.

Trinity? what are you doing here?'' a voice from behind made her jump.

Turning around, she saw just the person she wanted to see. ''Cupidra, you called Patricia to work? I mean you knew it was my shift, right?''

''Well, your mom called and requested that I give you a day off; saying it was very important,'' the short plump woman in her early 40s replied. ''That's why I called Patricia.''
