The Vixen's Gambit: Tonight We Hunt

Chapter 19: Shameless

Lihua finally managed to sneak into the Eastern Expeditionary army.

Though Otto and Kallen had both objected, she had secretly joined the medical unit. By the time Kallen had found her in the camp, the army was already halfway there.

"Lihua, it's dangerous this time. Why did you follow us?"

Inside Kallen's tent, Kallen looked at Lihua's embarrassed smile with a sigh.

She was confident in her strength, but her opponent was a Shenzhou immortal. The Ming Dynasty army wasn't made of straw. If something went wrong, she couldn't guarantee Lihua's safety.

"I'm just worried about you…"

Lihua said shamelessly. "I have to follow you to protect you. Even if we encounter an enemy that we can't beat, I can at least be a meat shield."

"Who needs you as a meat shield?" Kallen smiled wryly at Lihua's excuse, but she was also touched.

With Lihua's strength, if they were to encounter an enemy that she couldn't beat, then the only thing she could do would probably be to use her body as a meat shield.

But she was the one who was supposed to be protecting Lihua, not the other way around.

"The front lines are dangerous, Lihua. I've already written to that jerk--cough, to Otto. Go back with him when the time comes."

"But I don't want to go back…"

How am I supposed to die if I go back?

"Lihua, just listen to me this time."

Kallen was exasperated. It was the first time she had seen Lihua so childish.

"I'll protect myself, don't worry."

"Are you really going to send me away?"

Lihua stared intently at Kallen. If she nodded, then she would have to use her special move.

"I'm not sending you away, I'm just sending you back to Europe. I'll return after this battle."

Wow, you just placed a big flag on your back…

But since Kallen was so firm, Lihua had no choice but to resort to her move. She sighed internally. That move required too much of a sacrifice. She hadn't wanted to use it.

But in order to die a glorious death, she had no choice!

"No, no, no! I don't want to go!"

In front of the confused Kallen, Lihua lay down on the ground and started crying.

"I want to be with Kallen! Please let me stay!"

Lihua's cries attracted the attention of the Valkyries stationed outside. Several curious looks pierced through the tent entrance, staring at Kallen and Lihua on the ground.

Wow, so this is their thing?

"Lihua, what, what are you doing?"

Lihua's sudden actions caught Kallen off guard, and the Valkyries' strange gazes made her face turn red.

"Alright, alright! I get it! You can stay, okay? Get up now!"

"You should have agreed sooner."

As soon as Kallen agreed, Lihua quickly got up. Her cheeks were also flushed.

She did care about her reputation. If Kallen hadn't forced her, Lihua wouldn't have resorted to her "roll on the ground" strategy, where she traded a thousand points of damage to the enemy for eight hundred to herself.

She sacrificed too much just to die meaningfully…

Two days later, Otto rushed to the military camp.

He was dumbfounded when he learned that Lihua didn't want to go back. After failing to persuade her, he had no choice but to stay as well.

Seriously, why are you everywhere?

At dinner, Lihua watched Otto squeeze in between herself and Kallen and was speechless.

Over the past few years, whenever she and Kallen spent a little more time together, Otto would suddenly appear out of nowhere.

Lihua wanted to say something polite, but all his actions screamed that he was a stalker.

Her friends had complained about how Otto only cared about Kallen, but they never told her that he was such a creep...

If he was that obsessed, why didn't he want to come with Kallen from the start?

So weird…

While Lihua was lost in thought, Otto and Kallen were staring at each other with fake smiles.

"Oh my, isn't that our Otto Apocalypse?"

Kallen said mockingly. "Since Lihua won't go back, why aren't you at headquarters planning the war? Why are you here mixing with us Valkyries on the front line?"

Tsk, that jerk! I shouldn't have written him a letter if I knew Lihua wasn't going back!

"The battle on the Kipchak Steppe is extremely important. As the head of Schicksal's medical department, of course, I have to inspect it personally."

Otto replied hypocritically. "And Miss Kallen Kaslana, as the Valkyrie in charge of this operation, aren't you supposed to ensure the safety of the camp instead of having dinner with me and Lihua from the logistics department? Isn't that against protocol?"

Pfft, you fox spirit! How dare you trick Lihua into staying here with you?!

Their fake smiles seemed to cause sparks to fly between them.

When I'm done with that old man (Red Immortal), I'll deal with you!

[Energy +450]

[Energy +500]

Lihua's mind was filled with the sound of the System as it alerted her of the energy she received from their jealousy. She looked up, confused, and stared at the two smiling at each other.

So they're annoyed because they think I'm a third wheel?

Oh well, who am I to intrude? I'll just leave them alone to have their time.

I'll be dying in the battle in a few days. This is my compensation for what they'll be going through.

Sigh, I'm still too kind, I can't be a true villain…

"Otto, Kallen, you two can eat first, I'll go check on the wounded--"

"Lihua, you can't leave."

Otto grabbed Lihua's arm. If she left now, he might start fighting with Kallen in the next second.

"Knowing that I was coming to see you, the people at the Charitable Association asked me to deliver you a letter."

Otto took out the letters written by the people from the organization, and smiled mockingly at Kallen.

Do you know what Lihua cares about the most?

The Association and all the suffering people!

Can your coquettish tricks compare to what I've planned with Lihua's personality in mind? You should go away and sulk!

You sneaky, little person!

Kallen's teeth were grinding, but she couldn't do anything to Otto.

You think you've won? You underestimate me!

"Is it the letters from the Association? That's very important, but the letters can be read at any time. With the war upon us, I'll go with Lihua and check on the wounded."

Kallen stood up with a smile, and pried Otto's hand off Lihua's wrist.

You don't want to eat? Then, no one eats!

Otto also stood up smiling. "Since I'm the medical director, it's better for me and Lihua to go together."

"Nonsense, as a Schicksal Valkyrie, it's my responsibility to care about the wounded. Just leave it to Lihua and me."

Lihua was speechless as she watched the two of them once again stare at each other "lovingly".

Why don't you two go? I still want to eat.
