The Vixen's Gambit: Tonight We Hunt

Chapter 20: The Immortal

In the autumn of 1475, the Ming Dynasty and Schicksal gathered their forces on the Kipchak Steppe for a decisive battle.

As a weakling, Lihua wasn't qualified to be on the front lines. She could only watch the battlefield from a distant hill.

To be honest, she was shocked. There was a saying: When there are a thousand people, you cannot see the edge. But now, the soldiers lined up on either side of the battlefield numbered at least a hundred thousand. The tiny figures stretched across the plain like two massive black clouds.

The reality of the ancient battlefield was more shocking than the technology-rendered scenes that she had watched on Earth.

It was a pity that capturing this scene required not money, but real lives.

Lihua heard the rumbling of war drums. The two black clouds moved, charging into the enemy formation as if they were pouring water.

Shouts, hooves, the clashing of metal… Lihua felt the earth shaking beneath her feet.

Even from afar, Lihua could smell the blood carried by the wind.

Why did humans always fight each other?

Lihua looked at the battlefield, a meat grinder of death.

She hated war, the embodiment of fighting and death. It was the furthest thing from her dream of a peaceful life.

Otto was still busy in the casualty camp. The massive number of wounded had forced him, the person in charge, to treat the wounded himself.

Kallen had taken her position behind the army, ready to fight the immortal from Shenzhou at any moment.

Sigh, if my death could not only save Kallen, but all the soldiers here, how great would that be?

Everyone deserved a peaceful life.

But Lihua knew that was impossible. The fat, power-hungry elites of Schicksal only cared about profit. The lives of civilians and soldiers weren't even a number to them. They were just an unimportant concept.

...

"If I survive this, I'll hang you all from the lampposts when I get back to Europe."

Lihua stood up and stretched.

She had just seen a red meteor fall into the middle of the battlefield. It was time for her to make her entrance.

Thanks to Honkai weapons, Schicksal had an advantage. But everything changed when the red figure entered the battlefield.

The immortal moved through Schicksal's army like a red brush, easily wiping out the enemy troops.

A golden light flew from the depths of the Schicksal camp, heading directly for the immortal. That was Kallen.

"Sigh, time for my entrance…"

Lihua did some stretches. Having lived in this Honkai world for so long, she was conflicted about suddenly dying.

What would happen to the others after she died?

Kallen would be sad. Eleanor and others at the Association would also be devastated. The common people would probably be quite emotional.

And Otto might shed a few tears for her?

Thinking about that, she felt guilty. She had hurt so many people.

"But I'm a bad person, after all…"

Lihua looked at Kallen being beaten down by Fu Hua and Schicksal's army quickly collapsing. She picked up a defective Honkai-powered greatsword from the armory, took a deep breath, and ran down the hill.

Come on, sweet death!

"Judah, first rated power, activate…!"

Golden chains shot out of the cross and tightly bound the Red Immortal's limbs.

Kallen knelt on the ground, gasping for air. This was her last bit of energy.

Speed, power, and technique, her prized fighting abilities were crushed by the Red Immortal.

If not for Judah, she wouldn't have even been able to put up a fight.

There was no one else left. In their battle, both Schicksal and the Ming army had been either killed or forced to flee.

Judging from the number of bodies, this battle was clearly a Schicksal defeat.

But if she could defeat the Red Immortal here, she could still become the strongest!

Kallen stood up, leaning on Judah. In her mind, this battle was already over. Even though she was severely injured and her opponent hadn't even broken a sweat, she had still won.

The Oath of Judah, Kallen, as the user, knew the power of this Schicksal's most powerful weapon.

Its first rated power could lock down an enemy's movements and Honkai energy. Even the powerful Honkai Emperors would lose their fighting ability the moment they were bound by Judah's chains.

The Red Immortal can't be stronger than a bunch of Honkai Beast Emperors.

"Too weak."

A calm voice in front of her made Kallen raise her head in confusion.

She must have misheard. How could someone speak so calmly when they were bound by Judah's first rated power?

But what happened next sent her heart crashing to the bottom of an icy well.

The Red Immortal barely moved, but the chains wrapped around her shattered as if they were made of paper, not Schicksal's treasured weapon.

The Red Immortal had shattered not just Judah's chains, but also Kallen's last bit of fighting spirit.

She knew she wasn't a match for this being before her.

Her body seemed to have lost all strength. Kallen slumped to the ground.

"You have no resolution or power. You don't even know what you're trying to protect."

The Red Immortal walked over slowly and looked down at Kallen. "You have no right to use that weapon."

Is this where my life ends?

Feeling the cold gaze from above, Kallen could only smile bitterly.

I'm sorry, Lihua. It seems I won't be able to walk with you any further--

"Don't hurt her!"

Lihua, I can hear your voice before I die…

Wait, why was that voice so close?!

Kallen looked up in shock and saw a frail figure with open arms standing in front of the Red Immortal, protecting her.

"Please don't hurt her!"

Lihua stood there with a righteous face. Her legs were trembling.

Not because Fu Hua could easily kill her, but because the amount of corpses was overwhelming!

Mountains of corpses, literal mountains of corpses!

She had been running over bodies to get here, and her heart was still pounding. This is so damn scary!
