Chapter 16: Are You Trying to Kill Me?!
In the end, Lihua wasn't dragged into Schicksal HQ by Otto.
Instead, she was dragged into his lab.
Wow, Otto, you really are a villain. This lab looks like an evil organization's base.
Lihua stared nervously at the lab's interior. Test tubes were filled with various colorful liquids. Unknown organs were submerged in many glass jars. The hospital beds were covered in shackles and restraints, with traces of blood still visible.
Dude, we only had a hug, why are you doing this to me?!
Our relationship should be okay--wait, anyone who threatens Kallen dies, even those close to Otto.
Even Fu Hua, who he called his friend, was shot in the head by him!
Crap. I'm probably not going to get out of this. Am I going to be a human experiment?
"Lihua, lie down on the bed."
Otto expertly took down some vials and started mixing them together. Lihua felt numb. It looked like she would be sacrificing herself for medical progress.
Well, I'm done for here. I still have Kallen as a backup. She'll probably be sad and give me a lot of energy if I die.
Kallen probably already knows about the hospital situation. With her Kaslana nature, I'm sure she will find someone to take care of the patients even if I die.
Although it isn't how I planned my exit, it's still fine…
With these thoughts, Lihua laid down on the bed calmly.
But before she died, she needed to understand a few things.
"Otto, Kallen said that you are now in charge of Schicksal's medical department."
Otto paused his actions as he heard Lihua's voice behind him.
"Yes. With the Black Death outbreak, they needed someone who knew medicine."
"I knew you could do it."
Lihua smiled. After all, Otto had been in charge of that area in the original story. "But the Black Death is so scary. So many people are dying outside."
"Yeah." Otto had finished mixing the medicine and was walking toward Lihua with a syringe.
"There seems to be medicine for the Black Death, but it's too expensive. Many civilians can't afford it. They're all being driven out to the suburbs to die..."
Lihua looked at the purple fluid in the syringe in Otto's hand. She was really afraid.
This doesn't look like something that can be injected into the body. After all this research, Otto, is this all you came up with?
Or are you doing this to get back at me?!
No, though I'm not afraid of dying, I can't just suffer for nothing…
System, exchange for Pain Control!
[Energy -50,000]
Lihua felt the new feature activate. She set her pain to 0.01% and extended her arm calmly to Otto.
Come on, torture me! If I make a sound, I'll lose!
"And the medicine isn't curing the disease… Is this the medicine that you developed, Otto?"
Otto tensed up at Lihua's question, but managed to remain calm. "Yes, but it hasn't been tested on humans yet--Lihua, don't worry. Though it hasn't been tested on humans, I can guarantee its effectiveness. The animal testing was all successful!"
Otto was hurting inside. He was holding the original version of the medicine. After countless human trials, it was able to eliminate the Black Death completely. The version on the market was just a downgraded version to make money.
But he didn't dare tell Lihua the truth. He was afraid Lihua would ask him why he didn't use the medicine to treat people, and instead watched as civilians were forced to despair by the high prices of the medicine. He was afraid that she would hate him if she knew about all of the immoral human experiments he had performed.
He was also afraid that Lihua wouldn't dare to use it because it hadn't been tested.
That was normal. How could anyone willingly inject a medicine with no origin, not tested on humans, created by a man who wasn't even a doctor? That was more like becoming a lab rat than curing a disease.
But Otto knew the medicine worked. He had made his decision. Even if Lihua didn't want it, he would inject her with it.
"It's okay, come on."
Lihua very readily pulled up her sleeve. Otto had made up his mind to use her as a guinea pig today. She might as well make things quick.
Besides, Otto was the one who created the cure. Even if it looked terrifying, it might work.
"Lihua, you, aren't you worried?"
Looking at Lihua calmly, Otto's hand with the syringe trembled slightly.
He had imagined Lihua not trusting him and even trying to escape. He also imagined convincing her after a lot of effort. But he had never imagined this scenario where Lihua trusted him without hesitation.
Why? This is such a suspicious situation. Even Kallen Kaslana, that idiot, wouldn't lower her guard so easily. Why does Lihua trust him so easily?
"Worried? Is there any point?"
You're set on injecting me with this. I might as well look magnanimous!
"After all, you're my hero and great inventor. I always believed that you would end this disease."
Lihua was telling the truth. That was how the story went. Though it seemed like something was off this time, she knew everything would eventually converge back to Otto.
But Otto said that he hadn't tested it on humans. So I'm the first guinea pig…
Should I say something more like a Kaslana to show how brave I am? But she just said that she trusted Otto, if she said that she was a sacrifice, it would contradict her previous words...
Otto, though I trust you, I don't think that your first human test will succeed.
Testing on a close acquaintance first. You are who you are!
"Otto, I'm actually glad. Because if I succeed, then we won't need to test it on anyone else~"
Too bad that I'll probably die.
Seeing Otto still standing there without a word, Lihua decided she wasn't going to wait anymore. She grabbed the syringe and plunged it into her arm.
Everyone is going to die, but my death is going to be as heavy as Mt. Tai! I'm sacrificing myself for medicine! At least ten thousands should mourn me!
Wait, Schicksal's human experiments were secret, weren't they? The public probably wouldn't know how she had died.
...Crap.
