The Vixen's Gambit: Tonight We Hunt

Chapter 15: People, Do You Get It?!

Otto looked at the forced, ingratiating smile on Lihua's face, and he felt like his heart was being pierced by countless sharp knives.

"You, you were personally taking care of the patients all this time?"

"Only I could do that, after all, I'm half Kaslana."

Lihua gave a helpless smile. "If anyone else went, they'd get infected."

She had a little Honkai resistance and could achieve temporary immunity by spending a few thousand energy points. It would be wrong to send ordinary people to their deaths.

If they were infected, it would cost her much more than 3000 energy points to exchange for an effective cure.

With her status, she could also buy medicine and coordinate with other suppliers. If word got out that she was infected with the Black Death, the hospital would shut down immediately, and the patients would be left to die. Her efforts for the past three months would be meaningless.

So, Lihua had been hiding the fact that she had the Black Death. As long as she had the System, it wouldn't affect her. She just needed to wait for Otto to develop a cure. Everything would be fine.

Lihua had no idea why Otto hadn't developed the cure yet, but she had full faith in him. After all, that was how the story went.

But why was his favorability always at level 10? Why did he only care about Kallen and not me? Has his favorability for Kallen already broken the MAX limit?

I remember that Otto adopted a younger sister later on. Is that how I'm ranked in his heart now?

Well, that's okay too. Otto seemed to care about his sister as well. He'd probably be sad if she died.

"Enough about me. It feels like we haven't seen each other in a while, right?" Lihua looked at Otto, lost in thought. "You seem thinner. Are you taking care of yourself?"

Take care of myself? How can you even say that, Lihua?

Looking at the blood on Lihua's lips and her pale face, Otto had never felt such pain.

He let her leave Schicksal and gave her enough money so that she could have a good life until he could bring her back to him. But how long has it been? Only three or four months, and she had ruined herself already!

Lihua, I know that you are a Kaslana. To you, other people's lives and the common good are the most important things. That makes your own life irrelevant.

But how can I tolerate this?

Especially when you're like this because of me...

Otto Apocalypse, you are the stupidest moron in the world!

Otto didn't say anything, but he grabbed Lihua's hand tightly and started walking back the way they came.

"Wait, Otto, where are you taking me?"

Lihua tried to break free, but Otto was like a rock, silently pulling her forward.

"I need to get back to the hospital. There are patients who need care--"

"The biggest patient right now is you!" Otto roared, finally reaching his breaking point.

[Energy +8000]

He didn't look back, but Lihua was dumbfounded.

Whoa, Otto is angry?!

Just how angry was he about me being in contact with Kallen with a disease?

Whether back on Earth or after coming to the Honkai world, Otto had always been gentle in her heart. No matter what the situation, he treated others with respect. Even those he didn't like, even his enemies, he would remain elegant and polite on the surface.

But now, Otto was freaking out...

Is he going to turn me into a human specimen? Otto is known for his love for Kallen. A sister is nothing compared to her!

I need to surrender now or I'll lose favorability!

"I'm sorry, Otto..."

Lihua begged, "I won't go out again. Please don't send me to headquarters."

She'd just exchange energy for supplies. As long as she was discreet about it, it shouldn't be a problem.

If she was imprisoned at Schicksal headquarters, what would happen to her patients? Her ATM - cough, the patients that needed help!

"You don't need to apologize to me," Otto replied without turning around.

He didn't dare look back. He couldn't bear to see Lihua's face.

Every time he saw the pleading in Lihua's eyes, he felt his throat tighten as if it was being strangled by thorns. It was painful, and he couldn't breathe.

Even now, Lihua was thinking about the patients at the hospital. Since the day she said her dream was to make people's lives better, she had been working tirelessly, even if it meant hurting herself.

What have I done? Lihua believed that I could be the hero to help her achieve her dream, but my actions didn't help her. I've made her like this!

Otto Apocalypse, you are the stupidest moron in the world!

Lihua didn't know that Otto had developed a cure for the Black Death months ago.

But he hadn't made it public. Instead, he secretly started selling a degraded version of the cure to make a profit.

He needed more funds to grease the wheels in Schicksal so that he could have more power. Only when he had enough power could he bring Lihua back and protect her from everyone.

In the original timeline, Otto didn't have these concerns. He only needed to prove that he was worthy of Kallen. He had no desire for power. That's why he immediately published his results after the drug trials were complete and released it to the public.

Because of Lihua's existence, Otto had more concerns. He ended up delaying the release of the medicine.

Oh no, he's really mad.

Lihua was helpless as she watched Otto pull her towards Schicksal HQ without another word.

People, do you get it? Just because I got a little too close to his beloved Kallen? I don't even have a contagious disease. Why are you so angry?!

Why are you so heartless?! I said I wouldn't leave the hospital. Why are you taking me away?!

There was no choice. She would just have to figure out how to escape later.

Given his craziness over Kallen, even if she knelt down and apologized, she'd still be in trouble since she was a threat to her...
