Chapter 71: Cold Winds, Dark Souls
whoooh!!!
The wind howled through the valleys, carrying with it thousands of snowflakes. Fang Yuan, being a zombie, felt nothing of the cold, but the girl beside him had nearly frozen stiff. He transferred her to his immortal aperture and continued alone through the frozen, desolate slopes of the mountain. The path ahead was unclear, veiled by a thick curtain of white snow.
A few hours later, the storm began to subside. Gray clouds now drifted steadily across the dark sky, and no stars could be seen. The mountain stood before him like a frozen wall, silently looming.
Fang Yuan pressed on.
Hours passed, and now all that remained of the merciless storm was a bone-chilling cold. In the black sky, countless stars, large and small, twinkled like pearls.
Above one of the peaks, the sky had turned a blue-green hue—a phenomenon known as "Spiritual energy concentration." When the spiritual energy in an area became too dense, it made the air difficult to breathe. One sign of this phenomenon was the appearance of auroras in the sky.
Cultivators seeking to build a solid foundation often trained in such places.
Fang Yuan glanced at his hand.
"The death aura is truly powerful. I even took down that giant wolf by poisoning it with the death aura."
The death aura was deadly to living beings. Perhaps that was why, at first, he had been reluctant to place the girl—who was already near death from the wolves' attack—into his dead aperture. Fang Yuan's immortal aperture contained a powerful death aura, but he had managed to reduce its intensity using a special trick. That trick involved the immortal green grapes he had taken from a titan.
However, the grapes were limited and would eventually run out. What then? How could he create more?
Fang Yuan smiled to himself.
As he descended the mountain, he brought Su Yun out from his immortal aperture. The girl hadn't been affected by the death aura, proving just how useful the green grapes could be to him.
By the time they reached the forest, a full day had passed. Night had fallen again, and the sound of cicadas echoed from among the scattered leaves and tall green shrubs.
Fang Yuan lit a fire and sat beside Su Yun. Thanks to the healing aura of the healing Gu, her recovery had accelerated greatly. While the thoughts of an immortal could provide Fang Yuan with significant benefits, what was the point of killing one bird when you could catch the whole flock?
But Fang Yuan had changed his priorities.
After consuming the alpha wolf, he realized the beast had been filled with wild thoughts—thoughts unique to demonic beasts. These wild thoughts, once refined, could provide Fang Yuan with useful clarity. However, only a limited number of demonic beasts carried such thoughts, so it wasn't something he could rely on too much.
It was thanks to the unusual amount of wild thoughts he had gained that Fang Yuan reconsidered killing Su Yun, but the future was still uncertain.
Who could guarantee that Su Yun wouldn't eventually be killed by Fang Yuan?
He recalled the time when he had been forced to become an immortal zombie. The stone-eating wyrms were incredibly tough, and in his regular state, he couldn't defeat them. His zombie body had only six hands, and it wasn't strong enough to take on the wyrms. But he had a trump card.
In that critical moment, Fang Yuan immediately brought out the eternal legacy Gu and forcibly fused part of the titan's aura with his own body. Even though the titan had been weakened, its soul remained immensely powerful.
With just a drop of the titan's soul, Fang Yuan's strength surged. He roared wildly, tearing the wyrm apart from the inside.
The wyrm screeched in agony and slammed itself into the ground. Fang Yuan leaped from its belly, grabbing the edge of its wound and slamming it down with all his might.
Grrrrrrrrr!!!!
Now, Fang Yuan had eight hands. With all of them, he gripped the worm's flesh and tore a chunk away from its body. Blood gushed onto the ground in a flood.
He was fully controlled by his immortal zombie's wild instincts. To conserve his thoughts, he didn't think at all during battle. He simply watched silently as his instincts fought the wyrms.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Blood splattered everywhere as Fang Yuan leaped into the air. Occasionally, one of the worms would strike, but he would dodge instantly and deliver a crushing blow.
The battle raged on in the most savage way, though Fang Yuan couldn't remember much beyond that.
Whoooshhh!!!
Two elders from the Mist Sect rode on a magical tool. They had been sent by the sect to inspect the titan's corpse in the northern mountains.
But who could have predicted the horrifying scene that awaited them upon arrival?
