Chapter 7: Beneath My Notice
Ultimately, Ji Chuxing and the others were escorted away by Director Yan.
The boys were all talking over each other, not only demanding an apology from Ji Chuxing but also insisting that she make a public self-criticism, voluntarily withdraw from the Qihang class, and even leave Nan High School altogether. The Qihang class was designed to nurture top students, and if someone truly had poor character, they couldn't remain there.
As the boys rambled on, complaining to the director, Ji Chuxing stood dazed and exhausted, her head bobbing up and down as though she were sleepwalking through the situation. It was almost as if the conversation wasn't about her at all.
Director Yan turned to her with a frown. "Ji Chuxing, what's this attitude? Are you admitting your mistake?"
Ji Chuxing was barely holding back a yawn. After listening to their accusations for so long, she looked at Director Yan with a mix of exasperation and innocence. "Director, have you forgotten something called security cameras?"
She was tired—so tired—and just wanted to sleep. These people wouldn't let her rest, and it made her irritated! She craved milk tablets, jelly, and sweet little cakes!
The boys' faces turned pale, and they all pointed accusingly at Ji Chuxing. "You still refuse to admit it and try to argue! Director! Ji Chuxing is being utterly unreasonable. Even now, she refuses to take responsibility. We all saw what happened with our own eyes. Do you think Sun Han would go to such lengths to make himself look pathetic?"
"Who knows?" Ji Chuxing shrugged innocently. "After all, the world is full of fools."
"You!"
Director Yan's expression darkened. Ji Chuxing met his gaze calmly. "Seeing is believing. If they insist, then let's check the footage."
Today, if she didn't teach these jerks a lesson and avenge the original owner, she wouldn't be Ji Chuxing, hmpf!
Valuing Nan High School's reputation above all else, Director Yan glanced at the boys and immediately said, "Then let's review the surveillance footage first!"
The boys' faces went white.
Five minutes later, as they watched the video, Director Yan's face turned ashen. At 7:40 AM, five minutes before Ji Chuxing entered, Sun Han and his group had divided tasks. They brought a mop and a bucket of dirty water, carefully placing them above the door. Someone even waited at the staircase to report when Ji Chuxing arrived.
What followed was Ji Chuxing's realization of their trap—and their own downfall. The so-called verbal abuse was laughable—a classic case of self-deception, covering one's ears while stealing a bell, and crying thief while being the culprit!
Director Yan felt utterly humiliated. What nonsense was this?
Nan High School had invested so much effort into nurturing these students, only to produce such results?
Ji Chuxing wasn't surprised at all. Facing the director's apologetic gaze, she simply shrugged innocently.
Director Yan felt even more ashamed—and angrier than ever!
At this point, the boys' misdeeds were fully exposed. Filled with regret and fear, they hadn't expected such a reversal.
In the past, Ji Chuxing would never have demanded to see the surveillance footage. She was a country bumpkin who didn't even know what security cameras were, always letting herself be bullied. This time, they had planned to drive her away!
But in front of the undeniable evidence, they had no way to defend themselves.
All of this was because of Ji Chuxing. If she hadn't suggested checking the footage, the director would never have doubted them. They were supposed to be the elite students!
Yet Sun Han tried to argue: "Director, we just wanted to teach Ji Chuxing a lesson. It was only a joke."
"That's right!" With Sun Han leading, the others found courage. "Besides, she wasn't hurt. She knew about it and kicked the door. Otherwise, this wouldn't have happened. She had ill intentions!"
Ji Chuxing stood silently, her expression unreadable.
Director Yan, hearing this, felt heartbroken. "You… Apologize to Ji Chuxing, write a self-criticism, and consider yourselves lucky to still have a chance to stay under probation!"
Their faces turned pale. They couldn't understand why Director Yan would punish them—the elite students—for Ji Chuxing.
"Director Yan, we refuse! She wasn't hurt, but we were!"
Director Yan was furious. "She avoided getting hurt because she was alert, not because you didn't try. There's no room for negotiation. Apologize!"
By now, everyone at Nan High School knew that Director Yan was strict. Making a big fuss wasn't wise. Today, their plan had backfired, and they had no choice but to apologize to Ji Chuxing reluctantly.
"Ji Chuxing, we were wrong."
Seeing their somewhat sincere apologies, Director Yan told them to write self-criticisms. Ji Chuxing reminded him, "Don't forget—a public apology, right, Director?"
Director Yan hesitated but, thinking of their serious mistake, gritted his teeth. "Yes, tomorrow morning—a public apology!"
The boys clenched their jaws, thought of something, and left without another word.
Director Yan turned to Ji Chuxing, his tone softer. "Rest assured, such things won't happen again. Go back now. I'll handle this properly and ensure you get a fair resolution."
Pausing, he added, "I heard you were sick and missed last week's test. Don't worry; I'll arrange for a makeup test this week."
Ji Chuxing: "…Thanks, but no thanks."
Director Yan, always fair, didn't pick up on Ji Chuxing's subtle rejection. He was filled with guilt for his oversight.
"Director, I came today to talk about this. I plan to transfer classes," Ji Chuxing said, pursing her lips.
"What!" Director Yan was stunned.
Before he could react, the sound of high heels clicking approached the office.
Liu Xiuping strode in, ignoring Ji Chuxing entirely, and slapped a piece of paper onto the desk.
"Director Yan, here are the test rankings. I demand Ji Chuxing be removed from the Qihang class."
Director Yan felt as if Liu Xiuping had slapped him. He had just promised Ji Chuxing a retake.
Looking at the girl beside him, Director Yan frowned. "What do you mean?"
Liu Xiuping was a highly respected talent hired from abroad, and Nan High School treated her with great deference.
"It's simple," Liu Xiuping tapped the desk. "Since joining the Qihang class, she's never passed a test. This time, she submitted a blank paper and scored zero. I won't allow such a student in the Qihang class. There are forty-five students—how many points does she drag down the average? If word gets out, it's not the Qihang class that's at fault but me. I won't take the blame!"
"Ji Chuxing was sick and didn't attend, not that she submitted a blank paper," Director Yan said, glancing between Ji Chuxing and Liu Xiuping.
Moreover, how could she say such things in front of a student?
Liu Xiuping lifted her chin. "I don't care. All I know is that she's taking up a spot in the Qihang class. Besides, with her level, she doesn't even deserve to be in Nan High School. The Qihang class isn't a dumping ground for failures."
"Watch your words," Director Yan's face hardened slightly.
Liu Xiuping sneered. "I'm here to inform you, Director. If you disagree, I'll go straight to the principal. It's either her or me—not both."
Liu Xiuping's threat made Director Yan's face change.
"Who cares." Ji Chuxing, who had been silent, muttered under her breath, drawing their attention.
Liu Xiuping, towering in her high heels, looked down at Ji Chuxing. "You should know your place. You don't belong here."
Ji Chuxing showed no fear, meeting Liu Xiuping's gaze with calm indifference, far from the panic Liu expected. "Yeah, I don't belong here. I don't want to."
Hmph! She wouldn't play the role of a "genius" like some failed experiment.
"What did you say!" Liu Xiuping's face twisted in anger.
Ji Chuxing gave her a skeptical look. "Not too old, but bad hearing?"
She didn't care. Whoever wanted to stay, could stay. Hmph!
Liu Xiuping trembled with rage. "Director Yan, look at her attitude. I can't believe Nan High School would keep such a person."
Ji Chuxing ignored the infuriated Liu Xiuping. This woman was a snob who had always verbally abused the original owner. If the original owner had been bolder, she would have transferred classes herself long ago.
Ji Chuxing slung her backpack over her shoulder, ignoring Liu Xiuping, and said to Director Yan: "Director, I already told you about transferring. Oh, and don't forget the public punishment tomorrow."
Director Yan: "??"
Did I agree to that?!
Liu Xiuping, enraged by Ji Chuxing's attitude, turned to Director Yan: "What public punishment?"
