Chapter 29: The Five Dynasties Stirred
At that moment, a cold voice echoed from the doorway: "Who's been hauled in?"
Wen Xinyue suddenly turned around with surprise. "Big Brother!"
Wen Lian nodded, his expression still cold as he looked at Zhou Ru, waiting for her response.
Zhou Ru felt uneasy. Telling her stepson that her own daughter was in trouble was like slapping herself in the face!
But Wen Xinyue seemed to have no such qualms. After a moment of hesitation, she said, "Brother, it's Sister. She got into a fight and was taken away."
Wen Xinyue still remembered how her brother had helped Ji Chuxing last time. Her brother must not know what kind of person Ji Chuxing really is, or he wouldn't have defended her. If he knew that Ji Chuxing was a girl from the countryside with bad behavior, a love for fighting, failing grades, no manners, and no skills, her strict brother would surely despise her and even regret helping her last time. He should know the true nature of Ji Chuxing.
Hearing this, Wen Lian frowned but said nothing.
Since it had come to this, there was no point in hiding it. Zhou Ru pretended to be calm. "Lian, don't worry about this. You don't need to tell your father or grandmother. It's a minor issue, and we shouldn't trouble them over such small matters. Xiao Xing has been very disrespectful and needs to be disciplined. I will handle it, and I assure you it won't affect the reputation of the Wen family in Nancheng."
"Minor issue?"
Wen Lian's voice was so flat that it was impossible to discern any emotion, making Zhou Ru, who was focused on how to get Ji Chuxing back to the countryside, unable to judge his true feelings. She assumed he also thought it was insignificant.
She smiled. "It's a minor issue, so don't worry. Xiao Xing indeed needs to be taught a lesson."
Wen Lian gave Zhou Ru a deep look, said nothing, and showed no expression. He didn't even enter the house but went straight out.
It was already past 8:30 PM. The sky was completely dark. Deputy Director Zheng was in his office, talking on the phone. "Don't worry, she's just a little girl. I'll make sure she learns who she can and cannot mess with. Someone will take good care of her."
Deputy Director Zheng's chubby face trembled with laughter.
Just as he hung up, before he could wipe the sycophantic smile off his face, he heard a voice from outside, "The provincial bureau is here!"
Deputy Director Zheng froze and quickly went out to greet them.
The provincial bureau chief, Qin Taizhang, was his superior, overseeing the police departments in all sixteen cities under the province, including Nancheng. A major figure with deep ties to the capital and substantial influence. Most importantly, he had many achievements and medals, making him highly respected and powerful.
Deputy Director Zheng took this very seriously and hurried to greet him. "Chief Qin, why didn't you let us know you were coming? I would have come to welcome you."
Qin Taizhang's face was stern, exuding an intimidating presence that made Deputy Director Zheng dare not meet his eyes. His first words were, "I heard you arrested a girl from Nancheng High School this afternoon."
Deputy Director Zheng's heart skipped a beat. But he quickly reasoned that Ji Chuxing was just a girl without any background, and Chief Qin couldn't possibly be here for her. Maybe she had offended someone important to Chief Qin.
With this in mind, he decided to curry favor. "I didn't expect this to catch your attention. Indeed, the girl was quite presumptuous. Don't worry, I know how to handle it."
At that moment, Qin Taizhang's phone rang. "Hello, yes, I'm here personally. I will take over Miss Ji's case. Please rest assured."
Qin Taizhang was nearly fifty years old, and there were only a few people in his life to whom he would speak so respectfully. Deputy Director Zheng's legs began to tremble and his face visibly paled.
At that moment, Director Zhou of Nancheng, having heard something, rushed back and saw Qin Taizhang, his heart sinking. "Chief Qin!"
Qin Taizhang nodded slightly. "I'm here to take over a case. A girl named Ji Chuxing. Tell me the details."
Director Zhou, looking puzzled, glared at Deputy Director Zheng. "I just received calls from the Wen, Zhao, and Shen families. They mentioned a girl who came today, and there are serious implications. Deputy Director Zheng, who did you bring in, and what happened?"
Qin Taizhang's eyes narrowed. The Wen, Zhao, and Shen families? These were all major families in Nancheng, but twenty minutes ago, he had also received messages from two influential families in the capital. Who exactly was this girl, and why was she attracting so much attention?
Just then, a few people entered the room. One of them was an elderly man with white hair and beard. Upon seeing Qin Taizhang, he immediately said, "Chief Qin, you're here. I'm here to vouch for the little doctor."
Qin Taizhang was surprised to see Elder Shen.
Following closely behind, Wen Lian's face remained cold and serious. "Director Zhou, I'm here to find out the details of the incident."
The last to arrive was not by foot, but by the sound of wheels rolling. Bo Yanchen twirled a string of prayer beads in his hand. "Quite lively for such a late hour, isn't it?"
Everyone turned to look at the source of the voice. Qin Taizhang, recognizing the newcomer, immediately stepped forward. "Second Master Bo, why have you come in person?"
