The Almighty Diva: Reborn to be Worshipped

Chapter 28: The Day She Withdrew the Prodigy

Ji Chuxing was indeed taken away.

In the interrogation room, after a brief and perfunctory questioning, one of the officers said dismissively, "That's all for now, little girl. You've gotten yourself into trouble with the wrong people. You'll stay here for a couple of days."

Ji Chuxing showed no significant emotional reaction. She lazily glanced at him and replied coolly, "Actions require evidence. Do you have any proof to justify detaining me?"

"Evidence?" The male interrogator sneered. "Bringing you here is the evidence, idiot. Didn't your family teach you who you should or shouldn't mess with?"

"Once you're in here, don't expect to walk out easily."

Ji Chuxing nodded knowingly. "Oh, so you're working with that leopard guy."

"What did you just say!" The man turned pale with shock. "Let me tell you, slandering law enforcement officers is a serious offense."

Ji Chuxing clicked her tongue and simply stared at them. Under her unwavering gaze, the two officers felt uneasy. They threw a few harsh warnings at her before leaving her alone.

Another female officer followed them out. "Are we really going to keep her locked up here?"

The man lowered his voice. "It's Deputy Chief Zheng's order. She walked right into his line of fire. If she doesn't get taught a lesson, how will she learn who runs things in South City?"

*Hmph!* She had no idea what she was dealing with, thinking she was some big shot. Without knocking her down a peg, she'd never understand who truly held power in South City.

Meanwhile, Zhao Feifei hurried back to the Zhao residence. Since her mother's passing, she and her father had been at odds, their meetings inevitably ending in arguments. This time, if it weren't for Ji Shen's situation, she wouldn't have returned home.

By coincidence, Zhao Zhonghai was at home. However, before father and daughter could exchange more than a few words in the study, the sound of a heated argument erupted. The butler, listening outside, sighed with concern. *Ah, what a tragedy. If only Mistress were still alive.*

Sure enough, within five minutes, the study door opened, and Zhao Feifei emerged with red-rimmed eyes. The door slammed shut behind her.

"Young Miss…" The butler watched anxiously as she stormed down the stairs.

Zhao Feifei ignored him completely and headed straight downstairs, only to encounter another figure in the living room.

"Oh, our young miss finally decided to grace us with her presence," said Zhao Leran, the daughter of her second uncle, who was only two days younger than her. The two had never gotten along. Zhao Feifei rolled her eyes. "Mind your own business!"

She didn't want to stay a moment longer. Since her father refused to help, she would have to turn to her grandmother to see if she could assist Ji Shen.

Upstairs in the study, the butler entered to find Zhao Zhonghai standing quietly by the floor-to-ceiling window, lost in thought.

"Master…"

Zhao Zhonghai nodded. "Who is Ji Chuxing?"

"She's a new friend of Young Miss. She's the child of Madam Wen and her ex-husband."

Zhao Zhonghai said nothing, merely waving him off. The butler understood his meaning.

He hesitated. "Master, Young Miss…"

Zhao Zhonghai remained silent, and the butler knew better than to press further. He quietly retreated.

Grandma Zhao, now elderly, lived in a separate courtyard. But she was a special presence in the family—no one dared defy her wishes, and Zhao Feifei was her favorite. Grandma Zhao was watching a drama, fuming over the misunderstandings between the main characters when she saw her granddaughter storm in with angry, tear-filled eyes.

"Oh, my dear, what happened?"

"Grandma, you must help me save Ji Shen!"

At the Wen residence, Wen Xinyue had been reflecting on the incident in the alley since returning home. She didn't know what had become of Ji Chuxing. If she had been injured, someone might have called the Wen household. She doubted Ji Chuxing would fare well against those people.

Suddenly, the phone rang. Wen Xinyue instinctively looked over.

Aunt Wen answered. "Young Miss, Miss Mo Xuer is calling for you."

For some reason, Wen Xinyue felt a wave of relief.

"Hello, Xuer."

"What?!" Wen Xinyue exclaimed, lowering her voice. "Are you sure? She was really arrested?"

"It's true. Remember, my family has connections. It came up during dinner tonight. With a record like that, I doubt she'll survive at South City High. Oh, sorry, Xinyue, I forgot she's your mom's…"

Wen Xinyue cut her off sharply. "Enough. Don't say another word. I'll inform my mother. No matter what, she's still part of the Wen family. You can't speak ill of her."

"You're too kind! How can you defend her after everything she's said about you?" Mo Xuer was clearly irritated, but seeing Wen Xinyue's displeasure, she reluctantly ended the call, clearly unhappy.

After hanging up, Wen Xinyue stood there, dazed, until she saw Zhou Ru return. "Mother, you're back?"

Zhou Ru nodded, looking exhausted. "How is Grandmother?"

Old Lady Wen had recently returned from abroad, informing only Wen Li'an. Zhou Ru had learned of it just recently and rushed to visit, but Old Lady Wen treated her coldly. In her eyes, Wen Li'an's mother was the rightful matriarch, while Zhou Ru was an unwelcome outsider.

Every meeting was tense, which weighed heavily on Zhou Ru.

"She's fine, but her health remains fragile. Now that she's back, I plan to find the best doctor in South City to treat her."

Wen Xinyue smiled. "That's wonderful. Maybe this will improve your relationship with Grandmother."

Old Lady Wen wasn't particularly fond of Wen Xinyue either, but as the head of the family, everyone respected her—including Wen Xinyue.

Zhou Ru forced a smile. "I hope so."

If Old Lady Wen accepted her, Wen Lihang's status in the family would not fall below Wen Li'an's, and he would inherit more.

Thinking of recent events, Wen Xinyue hesitated. "Mother, I just heard that Sister got into a fight with some outsiders and was taken by the police."

"What?!" Zhou Ru was shocked. "What happened?"

She grew furious upon hearing the details.

"I knew it! Can't she just behave like a normal student? Why does she always cause trouble, leaving me to clean up the mess!"

"Mother, please don't be angry."

"How can I not be?" Zhou Ru controlled her temper, not wanting to frighten Wen Xinyue. "We never should have brought her to South City. We should have sent her to a boarding school in the countryside. Then none of this would have happened. Do you know the details?"

"Not exactly. Some classmates saw her fighting with delinquents in an alley after school. That's probably why."

Zhou Ru nearly fainted. "Delinquents? What on earth is she thinking, causing even more trouble!"

Wen Xinyue asked, "What should we do? Should we try to get her out?"

Zhou Ru snorted.

Ji Chuxing had already disgraced her. If Old Lady Wen found out her own daughter had been fighting delinquents and landed in jail, who knows how she'd react! It might even affect Wen Lihang.

To rescue Ji Chuxing, she'd need to use the Wen family's connections. But if she did, both Wen Huaming and Old Lady Wen would surely find out!

She couldn't take that risk.

Better to let her rot in jail.

"Forget it! If she dares to cause such a mess, let her reflect in there. Xinyue, pretend you know nothing about this and don't tell anyone!"

She planned to expel Ji Chuxing from school tomorrow and send her back to the countryside. She couldn't let her disgrace the family name in South City!
