"The candy is really effective," Dawn thought while looking at the shimmering blue window in front of him. The giant row of text hovered quietly in midair without affecting his visibility.
Ever since he started taking the soul-strengthening elixir under the guidance of Fiona, Dawn had been monitoring the changes that his body was going through via the status screen.
Until today, he didn't really feel anything except a gentle sensation on his forehead every time he ate the Elixir. If it wasn't for the numbers going up on the status screen, he would have assumed the Elixir was ineffective and worthless.
But thankfully, he was proven wrong today.
Next were the changes in his fighting power—what was the "beginner Iron warrior" fighting power supposed to mean?
Had his strength really increased? Would he be able to fight against the smoke-like monster?
Without even needing to voice these thoughts, he knew the answers to these questions almost instinctively, as if the universe itself was clearing his doubts so that he didn't overestimate his abilities.
"The temptation to head to the Eternal battlefield has increased again."
Once Dawn shifted his attention away from the status window, he felt a strange intangible force that wanted him to immediately head to the battlefield and fight the invaders, as if it was the sole reason for his existence.
"Such power..."
The feeling sent chills running down his spine.
Time continued to pass. Dawn continued to think about many things to distract himself, and in the blink of an eye, it was already evening, with the sunlight starting to recede from his room.
"Hmmm?"
With that, Dawn noticed one more thing.
"I am still awake?" he muttered in amazement.
As a few days old baby, his brain wasn't developed enough, so it was harder for him to stay awake for such a long time period of time, not to mention the fact that just thinking about complicated things filled his head with pain.
Not just that, his thoughts seemed crisper and clearer than usual, and he could even better remember the details of his past life, like the shape of nurse's melons—ahem!—or the stories of the webnovels that he had read with vivid details.
Just at this moment, the sound of wooden gates moving reverberated through the room, followed by the sound of calm footsteps.
"Mother?"
Dawn muttered in a not-so-sure tone as he couldn't directly see who the visitor was, the gate leading to his room was directly opposite to his field of view, but given the sound of footsteps, he guessed it was his mother, whose name he still didn't know.
And in the next moment, Dawn was proven correct. It was indeed his mother, dressed in simple loose white dresses that clung to her body, exposing her mature and toned figure. She looked like a woman who worked out daily.
Athena noticed Dawn was already awake, immediately after noticing that she smiled while saying, "My baby, you are awake! Look what mother brought for you."
She raised her hand to show a small book covered with a thick leather cover. She even looked slightly proud as she waved the book in front of baby Dawn.
"Humm! Ummm?"
Dawn wanted to ask what this book was, but all the sounds that came out of his mouth were mindless gibberish that made no sense to any adult except mother Skylar, who took these words as confirmation.
"I knew it! Just like your brother and sister, you were definitely going to love this book!"
After saying those words, she moved closer to Dawn and sat on his bed with a peaceful and excited expression on her face.
"Huh?"
Dawn, however, was not paying attention to her at all. At this time, his entire focus was on the rows of blue windows that had suddenly popped up in front of him like an avalanche out of nowhere, filling his vision.
His eyes had a dazed look as he stared straight into the seemingly empty air in front of him.
"Did you forget your mother, Dawn?" Athena said in a slightly guilty voice. It was understandable that her little baby Dawn failed to recognize her as she had already failed to perform her duty as a mother.
Due to the unrest reported in various mines owned by the Skylar family, she, along with her husband, had to rush to these places to oversee the situation and calm things down.
And taking a newborn baby to such a dangerous place didn't make any sense either.
Once the situation was under control, Athena had immediately rushed back and left the situation for her husband and brother-in-law to handle.
....
Dawn looked at the flood of blue windows with a tongue-tied expression on his face.
[Ding! New Class Achievement unlocked]
[Grade - Epic, Gazing into the eyes of Death with a smile]
[Have near brush with death 1,000 times in succession in span of days. Young hero, Death had been chasing you but you have been faster]
[Young hero, your fighting spirit is praiseworthy and heroic as it should be. To be a hero is constantly putting yourself in danger and defeating adversity at all costs.]
'Escaped death a thousand times, how and when?'
Dawn was stunned by it. He was not even a week old and had a near brush with death a thousand times.
How was that even possible?
For a moment, his head was filled with doubt, and he wanted to deny all these claims, but then he shook his head—rushing to discard these notifications was not a wise move.
There had to be some truth behind it. Once he accepted the situation, Dawn's heart immediately skipped a beat.
To have been so close to death so many times, there must be something in this room that threatened his life every moment.
While thinking, he continued to look through the few windows that were left.
'A skill?' Dawn thought while looking at the last window in front of him.
[Your efforts have been awarded, young hero, and a new skill has been unlocked.]
[Nine Abyss Laser Eyes Level 1 - Launch a laser ray with temperature exceeding 1,000 degrees Celsius at your target.]
'What sort of name is this?'
Dawn frowned at the skill name; it didn't seem like anything good or praiseworthy.
Immediately after that, the image of a smoky monster appeared in his head. He couldn't stop himself from wondering if he would be able to defeat the monster with this skill.
Dawn didn't seem to realize just how twisted his thoughts really were—why was he even thinking about fighting the monster to begin with?
Immediately Dawn also seemed to have realized this and tried to shake his head to get rid of unnecessary thoughts.
Once his head was clear, Dawn focused on his mother to see why she suddenly decided to show herself.
Athena glanced at her youngest son, who was still looking at the air, and sighed, deciding to make up for her mistakes by spending more time with her son in the future.
"Let me tell you the story of one of the first Gold-ranked warriors..."
