Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Money
"Minato, are you running low on funds lately?"
Hayato and his friends were gathered in his small home: Kushina, Minato, Dekai, Ruri, Nono, and even Might Duy, fresh from completing a "catch the cat" mission, had squeezed into the cozy living room.
"Haha…" Minato scratched his head with an awkward laugh. "How did you figure that out?"
He gently stroked Pikachu's increasingly round cheeks, only to be zapped lightly by a playful electric shock. With a wry smile, he continued, "I had enough initially, but with all the training recently, my food expenses have skyrocketed. Plus, taking care of Pikachu adds up. I'm really close to running out."
"Same here," Dekai chimed in. "Training with Lightning Flash and Lightning Release has nearly doubled my appetite."
All eyes turned to Might Duy, who always wore the same green jumpsuit. His financial situation was clearly a curiosity.
"Why is everyone looking at me like that?" Duy asked innocently. "Don't underestimate me. I'm still a genin, and I do earn mission rewards. Plus, I don't just own one outfit!"
He unsealed a scroll, revealing over ten identical green jumpsuits neatly laid out.
"You win," the group collectively sighed, speechless.
"But," Duy added, pointing at the meditative blue Pokémon beside him, "things have gotten a bit tight since I got Meditite."
Beside him sat a serene, blue Pokémon with a bun-like head, radiating a calming aura: Meditite.
[Name: Meditite]
[Gender: Male]
[Ability: Yoga Power (Physical attack power doubles)]
[Type: Fighting, Psychic]
[Held Item: None]
[Moves: Work Up, Confusion, Bullet Punch, Detect]
"Hayato-kun, didn't you call us here about training?" Ruri seized the opportunity to draw closer, her expression serious. Kushina frowned but remained glued to Hayato's side, not letting Ruri encroach further.
Feeling the warmth beside him, Hayato smirked slightly. Jealous? he thought, though all he wanted was to discuss something important.
"It is somewhat related to training," Hayato cleared his throat, pulling out prepared materials.
"'The Money Making Plan,'" Minato read the title aloud, tilting his head in confusion. "What's this about?"
"What else? It's obviously about making money!" Hayato grinned. "Nono, let me test you. Why do villages go to war?"
Caught off guard, Nono sat up straight, feeling as though she'd been called on in class. She nervously adjusted her blonde hair and answered, "Hatred… and resources?"
"Exactly. Hatred and resources," Hayato nodded approvingly. "But at its core, it's all about resources."
"Hatred doesn't arise out of thin air. When hatred exists, it's often because something has been lost—friends, family, or in the case of villages and nations, resources."
"Tailed beasts, population, land—these are all resources. But the simplest and most tangible representation of resources is money." Hayato rubbed his fingers together as if feeling imaginary coins. "A bowl of ramen ranges from 50 to 100 ryo. Kunai, shuriken, explosive tags—they all cost money."
"Ninja missions? Sure, we solve requests, but at the end of the day, it's about earning money. And now that we have Pokémon, we need even more money."
"Chimchar!" Hayato pushed aside the mischievous Chimchar trying to distract him and gestured for it to go play with Kushina's Growlithe.
"So, I came up with a money-making plan." Hayato's smile was full of mystery.
"Making money? What does that have to do with us?" Ruri asked, puzzled. "We're just students. How could we possibly help?"
Don't worry—I'll take the lead.
Though Hayato didn't voice this thought, he already had a clear plan in mind.
His idea was to leverage the Pokémon system to connect Konoha's various clans, using himself as the central figure and Sarutobi Hiruzen as a guarantor. This would not only strengthen inter-clan relationships—preventing tragedies like the Uchiha massacre—but also allow Hayato to profit and accelerate his own growth.
Such a plan would mean sacrificing some personal benefits, like sharing the profits with the Third Hokage and other clans. But Hayato believed the initial investment was worth it for long-term gains.
[Name: Uchiha Hayato]
[Egg Groups: Human-Like, Field]
[Ability: Blaze]
[Types: Fire, Lightning, Water, Dark]
[Skills: Transformation Jutsu, Clone Jutsu, Substitution Jutsu, Sharingan, Feint Attack, Fire Style: Phoenix Flower Jutsu, Shadow Clone Jutsu, Summoning Jutsu, Quick Attack, Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu, Body Flicker Technique, Lightning Release Chakra Mode]
[Pokémon: Chimchar]
[World Alteration Rate: 0.81%]
The alteration rate had unknowingly risen to the point where he could perform five ten-roll summons. Hayato knew this was likely due to his influence on those around him and the successful development of the communicator.
"Of course, you can help," Hayato said seriously. "Ruri, you're especially important."
Ruri's white eyes showed a mix of nervousness and pride. She felt honored but was unsure how she could contribute.
"You're the heiress of the Hyuga Clan. If you convey my plan to your family, they'll know what to do." Hayato smiled warmly.
So I'm just a messenger… While relieved, Ruri couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment.
Just wait—I'll convince my uncle to agree to Hayato's plan. She glared at Kushina, who stuck out her tongue teasingly, and resolved to succeed.
"Duy, your role is to connect me with other trustworthy genin. I want to ensure those who gain Pokémon are reliable. If someone abandons their comrades, they're out of the question."
With the seeds of his plan planted, Hayato could only anticipate the changes his actions would bring to Konoha's future.
