Chapter 24: Chapter 24: Return of Three Ninjas
"Finally back, we're finally back!"
The tall white-haired man stretched lazily and casually spoke to the young man beside him, whose presence exuded an air of cool detachment.
"Sorry, Orochimaru, but I'll leave the mission report to you. The client for this mission was so annoying. Even after we resolved everything, they kept us there. All I want is to go home and sleep."
"You idiot," a sharp, clear female voice cut in, carrying a cold edge. A blonde woman with a neatly tied high ponytail and a strikingly fair and well-defined face, partially concealed by her shinobi vest, glared at him. Despite her no-nonsense demeanor, her presence was captivating.
"Thank you, Orochimaru," Tsunade said, clasping her hands together apologetically. "I want to go see Nawaki first."
"Oh, it's been a while since I've seen Nawaki too. Why don't we go together?" Jiraiya's tone turned playful, his smile becoming sly. "And after we see him, how about we go on a date?"
"You idiot…"
The veins on Tsunade's forehead bulged, and in the next instant, her monstrous strength sent Jiraiya flying.
"These two…" Orochimaru's golden eyes glimmered with faint amusement. "Always so noisy."
His expression softened momentarily as he thought of his long-unseen disciple. "Tsunade, send my regards to Nawaki. I'll teach him a new jutsu when I have the time."
"Hmph." Tsunade wiped her hands, as if brushing off the remnants of her earlier punch, then nodded. "Got it. Aside from me, Nawaki likes you the most. He'll be thrilled to know we're back."
The two went their separate ways, leaving Jiraiya lying face-up in the dirt, his legs occasionally twitching—a clear sign he was still alive.
"I wonder how my little brother is doing," Tsunade thought, picturing Nawaki's bright smile as her steps quickened. "Nawaki, I'm back."
"Huh?"
To her surprise, Nawaki didn't come running out to greet her as he usually did. There was no response at all.
"How odd," Tsunade murmured to herself, glancing at the entrance where Nawaki's usual shoes lay neatly. Her brows furrowed as she knocked on his door.
"Nawaki, I'm coming in."
What she saw made her heart sink—Nawaki was lying on his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, a white bandage plastered over his right cheek.
"Nawaki, what happened?" Tsunade rushed to his side, anger flaring. "Who did this to you?"
Without waiting for a response, she grabbed Nawaki and made her way to the Hokage's office, her anger simmering. She had just returned from a mission, only to find her little brother in such a state.
In the Hokage's office, Orochimaru had just finished submitting the mission report.
"Sensei, are you saying Uchiha Hayato can summon creatures from another world?" Orochimaru's voice carried a hint of doubt, though he knew his teacher, Sarutobi Hiruzen, would never lie about such things.
What a fascinating surprise to return to.
"Hayato-kun? How interesting…"
Before Orochimaru could delve further into his thoughts, he sensed a massive surge of chakra approaching rapidly. He swiftly moved aside as the door was violently kicked open, followed by the sound of a desk shattering.
"Tsunade! What are you doing?" Sarutobi Hiruzen's face darkened in irritation.
"You dare ask me that?" Tsunade fumed, pointing at the bandage on Nawaki's face. "Nawaki was bullied, and you expect me to do nothing?"
Hiruzen exhaled a cloud of smoke, his expression calm but serious. "Ah, so it's about that."
"Let him explain. Perhaps this will turn out to be a good thing for him," Hiruzen said, his gaze settling on Nawaki, who appeared deeply troubled.
Tsunade's anger subsided slightly as she turned to Nawaki, her voice softening. "Nawaki, what happened? If someone bullied you, you need to tell me."
Orochimaru, equally curious, observed the boy closely. Having taught Nawaki numerous jutsu, he found it unlikely for anyone to dare bully him, especially given his lineage.
Nawaki shook his head, his voice heavy as he explained, "It was Dekai…using a technique that Uchiha Hayato taught him."
"Sis, do you think I have what it takes to become Hokage?" Nawaki forced a bitter smile. "I couldn't even see Dekai's moves before I was knocked out."
Tsunade blinked in confusion. "Dekai? Hayato? Who are these people?" She had investigated Nawaki's classmates before and didn't recall these names.
"Allow me to explain," Hiruzen interjected with a chuckle, though his hand hovered awkwardly over the remnants of his shattered desk before settling on his beard.
Hiruzen explained the recent developments in the village and Uchiha Hayato's involvement in them.
"They've developed Lightning Release Chakra Mode on their own?" Orochimaru's voice trembled with excitement. "If that's the case, I must meet Uchiha Hayato. My goal will now include mastering jutsu from other worlds as well."
"Nawaki," Orochimaru said, his tone resolute, "if they've mastered something like Lightning Release Chakra Mode, then they're prodigies beyond even you. Losing to them isn't shameful."
Nawaki's head drooped further. "I've disappointed you, Sensei."
"Tch," Orochimaru clicked his tongue, unable to find the right words. As someone who had always excelled, he found it difficult to empathize with such failures.
"Pull yourself together!" Tsunade grabbed Nawaki's collar, shaking him. "Is this how the grandson of the First Hokage should act? Were all your dreams of becoming Hokage just a joke?"
Angered by her words, Nawaki snapped back.
"How could it be a joke? More than anything, I want to be Hokage! To carry on Grandpa's legacy—not as the grandson of Hashirama Senju, but as the Hokage of Konoha!"
"Then so what if you lost once? Win next time!" Tsunade encouraged him, her tone softening as she saw his fighting spirit reignite. "Quitters never become Hokage."
"I can even help you. I'll get to know them and steal their technique secrets—then you'll have a better chance."
Nawaki's eyes brightened for a moment but then turned resolute. "No, Sis. I'll defeat them on my own strength. I don't need you to spy for me."
Is that so? Tsunade thought, smiling inwardly. Even if that's what you want, I'm still going to meet this Uchiha Hayato.
