Chapter 17: Chapter 17
"Hayato, what new idea do you have this time?" Namikaze Minato asked, nervously patting his increasingly empty pockets.
He was excited because Hayato's ideas always worked wonders in improving their skills. But he was also apprehensive—his wallet couldn't keep up.
Hayato, a member of the Uchiha clan, had inherited a substantial fortune from his parents. Minato, on the other hand, was an orphan discovered to have ninja talent, living off the village's modest subsidies. Money was always tight for him.
Having Pikachu as a partner had further strained his already meager finances. Thankfully, he only had one Pokémon to care for. If he had more, survival might become a real issue.
"Pi-ka! (/≧▽≦)"
The Pikachu in his arms squeaked happily, nibbling on its snack. Minato couldn't help but smile, even as his heart ached.
Uchiha Hayato didn't respond immediately. Instead, he looked over at Kushina, who was cradling her Pokémon egg like a mother hen brooding over her chicks. The sight amused him.
"Kushina, it'll hatch when the time comes. You don't need to stare at it so nervously every moment," he teased.
Kushina shot him a mock glare. "No way! This is the Pokémon you gave me. I have to see it hatch with my own eyes!"
Hayato laughed. "Still, that doesn't mean you have to carry it around all day."
"Alright, Kushina, let me ask you something. How does a ninja fight?"
Kushina sat cross-legged on the ground, momentarily puzzled by the sudden question.
"Isn't it obvious? Ninjas fight using ninjutsu, taijutsu, and genjutsu," she replied.
Hayato nodded. "That's true, but there's more to it. Ninjas must also gather intelligence on their enemies while hiding their own information. If you know everything about your opponent, their fate is sealed."
This principle was the foundation of elite ninjas like Jiraiya.
"Minato, what I'm about to say ties into how we fight as ninjas. If our enemies know nothing about us, and we have Pokémon—mysterious creatures from another world—they'll understand even less."
"That's true. Information is our advantage," Minato agreed, clapping his hands.
"But," Hayato continued, "how well do you understand your own Pokémon? How strong is your bond?"
Without access to a Pokédex, Minato and the others still had only a shallow understanding of Pokémon. Hayato knew their training would only truly advance once he obtained one.
Minato looked down at Pikachu and shook his head. So far, he only knew it could generate electric shocks of varying intensity and move quickly at times. Beyond that, he was clueless.
Hayato glanced at Pikachu's details:
Name: Pikachu
Gender: Female
Ability: Static (Has a chance to paralyze enemies when hit with close-range attacks)
Type: Electric
Held Item: Light Ball
Moves: Nuzzle, Trick, Charm, Sweet Kiss, Play Nice, Tail Whip, Growl, Thunder Shock, Thunder Wave, Electro Ball, Thunderbolt, Volt Tackle, Double Team
Hayato noticed that Pikachu had recently learned a new move, Double Team, through its growth. He smiled—it was time to demonstrate some skills.
"Pikachu, let's show everyone your moves," Hayato instructed.
Pikachu looked back at Minato, who nodded encouragingly. Brimming with confidence, the little Pokémon stepped into the center of the training field.
"Pikachu, use Double Team!"
"Pi-ka, Pi-ka, Pi-ka!"
In an instant, six Pikachu images appeared, each as vivid as the original, making it impossible to tell which was real.
"Is this… Shadow Clone Jutsu?" Minato, usually calm, was taken aback. Pokémon weren't supposed to use ninjutsu.
"This is Double Team," Hayato explained. "It's a skill that confuses enemies by creating illusions through high-speed movement. The number of images depends on Pikachu's speed."
Minato relaxed slightly but was still impressed.
"Alright, Pikachu. Next, use Quick Attack on that wooden post," Hayato directed.
"Pika!"
Minato's sharp eyesight tracked Pikachu's movements as it dashed toward the target with incredible speed, smashing into the post and sending splinters flying.
"That speed… it's like Body Flicker Jutsu," Minato thought in shock. Pikachu was already faster than him.
"Now for Charm," Hayato said. "It's a move similar to genjutsu that can soften the enemy's resolve."
Though there wasn't a target, Pikachu looked even more adorable than usual, causing Minato to momentarily forget everything else.
"Thunder Shock."
"Growl."
…
"Thunderbolt."
By this point, the once-pristine forest was barely recognizable.
Minato was stunned into numbness. He could accept Hayato being stronger than him, but was Pikachu more powerful too? No, he couldn't let this stand!
Hayato smirked slightly. His goal was to ignite Minato's competitive spirit and accelerate his growth.
"Finally, Pikachu, show them your ultimate move: Volt Tackle," Hayato said, patting the now-dusty Pikachu. "After this, you can rest."
Pikachu nodded and began gathering electricity around itself.
Bright yellow sparks erupted from its cheeks, crackling as the air filled with the scent of ozone. Lowering its body, Pikachu lunged toward a towering tree, leaving scorched marks with each step. As its speed increased, it became a blur.
"Pika… CHUUU!"
With a deafening crash, several massive trees toppled, their trunks hitting the ground with a thunderous impact that shook the surrounding foliage.
"Pika… (。ŏ﹏ŏ)"
The little electric mouse emerged from the debris, visibly drained. Volt Tackle took a toll on its own body.
"You did amazing, Pikachu," Hayato praised, handing it a bottle of Moomoo milk.
"Pika!ヾノ≧∀≦)o" Pikachu took a sip and let out a cheerful chirp.
"That's Pikachu's current ability. What do you think?" Hayato asked.
Minato could only nod repeatedly. He knew he needed to work twice as hard now.
"Make arrangements to replant trees in that area," Sarutobi Hiruzen ordered the Anbu as he watched the scene through his crystal ball. His heart burned with excitement. The power of natural energy… this is only the beginning!
