Chapter 7: chapter 5

CHAPTER 4: PREPARING FOR THE WORST

After breakfast, the family gathered in Derick's study, the atmosphere somber as they prepared to discuss the impending apocalypse. Derick, seated behind his large mahogany desk, looked at Elise with a serious expression.

"Elise, according to what you said, there would be a scarcity in supplies, and you mentioned something about superpowers?" Derick asked, his eyes locked onto Elise's.

"Yes, Dad," Elise replied, taking a deep breath. "You, Mom, and Madison developed mutated abilities, and I had space and ice superpowers."

As she spoke, Elise demonstrated her powers, storing a chair in her space and creating a tiny ice pickle from her hands. The room fell silent, with Derick, Anita, and Madison staring at Elise in awe.

Anita's eyes widened in amazement. "Elise, how are you doing that?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Derick's expression turned thoughtful. "This changes everything. With your powers, Elise, and our mutated abilities, we might have a better chance of survival."

Madison's eyes sparkled with excitement. "What kind of mutated abilities do we have, Elise?" she asked, her curiosity piqued.

Elise smiled, "Well, Dad has superhuman strength and can generate force fields. Mom has the ability to heal wounds and manipulate plants. And Madison, you have super speed and agility."

The room fell silent once more, each family member processing their newfound abilities and the implications they held for their survival in the impending apocalypse.

Derick's voice broke the silence, shattering the trance-like state that had consumed the family for the past 30 minutes. "How large is your space, Elise?" he asked, his eyes filled with curiosity.

Elise hesitated for a moment, as if weighing her words carefully. "My space is as large as three times the size of a stadium, with a lake and fields to plant vegetables and fruit."

Derick's eyes widened in awe, while Anita and Madison exchanged amazed glances.

"But, Dad," Elise added, her voice laced with caution, "please don't tell anyone how big it is, or about the lake and fields. If people find out, they might try to experiment on me."

Derick's expression turned serious, understanding the gravity of Elise's concern. "Don't worry, sweetie," he said, "your secret is safe with us."

Elise took a deep breath before continuing. "Most people's spaces are only about 10 meters in diameter. It's really rare to find someone with a space as large as mine."

The room fell silent once more, each family member lost in their own thoughts, pondering the mysteries of Elise's space and the impending apocalypse that threatened their world.
