Chapter 44: Chapter 43: Shelgon Shocks everyone with a 1v3 Victory
After the knockout round, school was dismissed for the day.
The competition had to pause due to time constraints.
The quarter-finals would take place tomorrow, attracting a massive audience.
Not just students—school officials, first- and second-year students, and even outside spectators would be watching.
This was where true talent would shine.
---
Ryuu walked alongside Shindou Aio, hands in his pockets.
"Aio," he said casually, "when did your Milotic evolve?"
"You never told me. I'm mad now."
Aio's face froze.
"Ryuu, I… I just evolved it yesterday," she stammered.
"I forgot to tell you—please don't be mad!"
She looked nervous, eyes darting to his expression.
Ryuu stared at her, then sighed.
"So, you think you can hide things from me?"
Aio gulped.
Ryuu suddenly pinched her cheek, stretching it slightly.
"Guess I'll have to punish you later," he teased, smirking.
Aio's entire face turned pink.
She lowered her head, relieved that he wasn't actually mad.
"O-Okay… I promise I'll tell you everything from now on!"
Ryuu chuckled.
"Good. Now let's go home."
Taking her hand, he casually led her through the crowded street.
Aio's heart felt warm.

The Next Day
The day every student had been waiting for had arrived.
The quarterfinals would determine the strongest trainer in the school.
While most students had already been eliminated, those who remained dreamed of winning it all.
But for Ryuu?
This was just another stepping stone.
As usual, he was placed in the first match.
Four battles would take place at the same time across different arenas.
On the battlefield, his opponent stood frozen in fear.
A student named Tachibana Ren.
His face was pale.
Sweat dripped from his forehead.
Why?
Because his opponent… was Ryuu.
The strongest competitor left in the tournament.
"Go, Bulbasaur!" Ren shouted, forcing himself to stay calm.
A small, determined Bulbasaur emerged onto the battlefield.
[Pokémon: Bulbasaur]
Level: 19
Potential: Gym-Level
Ryuu raised an eyebrow.
Not bad.
For a school tournament, this was a solid Pokémon.
But in a top-tier academy, a Bulbasaur like this wouldn't even survive the first round.
If Ryuu hadn't come from a powerful family, he might have wanted to enroll in a high-ranked school himself.
But since he had an Elite trainer for a father, there was no need.
"Shelgon," Ryuu said calmly.
"You're up."
With a flash of light, a massive, armored dragon appeared on the battlefield.
"Whoa…"
The referee finally snapped out of his daze.
"I… I didn't expect Ryuu to have a Shelgon!"
His voice was filled with jealousy.
The crowd whispered in awe.
The teachers exchanged glances, impressed.
And Ryuu's homeroom teacher?
His hands were shaking from excitement.
With a student like Ryuu, their class ranking would skyrocket.
He could already see the bonuses coming his way.
But across the battlefield—
Ren looked devastated.
"How the hell… am I supposed to win?"
He felt like a commoner facing a king.
Still, he forced himself to continue the fight.
"Bulbasaur, use—"
"Flamethrower," Ryuu interrupted.
FWOOOOSH!
Shelgon unleashed a blast of fire, scorching across the battlefield.
The intense flames struck Bulbasaur head-on.
BOOM!
Smoke erupted from the battlefield.
When it cleared—
Bulbasaur was charred.
And completely unconscious.
Ren's hands trembled.
It hadn't even been ten seconds.
His strongest Pokémon was already down.
The crowd erupted in shock.
"Did he just one-shot that guy's Bulbasaur?!"
"This is insane!"
Ryuu yawned.
"Next."
Ren gritted his teeth and threw out his second Pokémon.
"Go, Geodude!"
A rock-like Pokémon appeared.
It didn't matter.
"Dragon Pulse."
Shelgon fired a roaring blast of energy.
BOOM!
Geodude was instantly knocked out.
The audience couldn't believe it.
Ren's final Pokémon was his last hope.
He hesitated.
But in the end—
He threw his final Poké Ball.
A Kakuna popped out.
Ryuu: "..."
The crowd: "..."
Even Ren looked embarrassed.
"I, uh… ran out of money, so I had to train Bug-types," he muttered.
Ryuu sighed.
"Ember," he said lazily.
Shelgon spat a tiny flame at Kakuna.
PFFT.
Kakuna twitched once—
Then collapsed.
The referee immediately raised his hand.
"Kakuna is unable to battle!"
"The winner is Ryuu!"
The crowd exploded into cheers.
But among them, a few students whispered bitterly.
"Man… Ryuu is way too strong."
"Yeah, but did he really need to make the poor guy cry?"
Everyone turned to look—
Ren's eyes were red, his fists clenched.
He was holding back tears.
He had just been completely humiliated in front of the whole school.
"This is brutal…"
"Poor guy."
Ryuu scratched his head.
Had he been too harsh?
No, he was just doing his job.
It wasn't his fault Ren was weak.
Shrugging, he recalled Shelgon and turned away.
The next battle awaited.
---
As Ryuu walked off the battlefield, Shindou Aio appeared beside him.
"Ryuu… was that really necessary?"
He smirked.
"What? You think I should've let him win?"
Aio sighed.
"Not that… but you totally made him cry."
Ryuu shrugged.
"He'll survive."
Besides—
He had bigger things to worry about.
Like preparing for the semi-finals.
Or—
More importantly…
Teaching Aio a lesson for hiding things from him.
He cracked his knuckles.
Tonight, she was getting a reminder about who was in charge.
"Wait—why are you looking at me like that?!" Aio stepped back.
Ryuu smirked.
"You'll see."
The next battle could wait.
He had other priorities first.
