Chapter 29: Chapter 29: A Single Man Among Countless Women
Jon Lyons followed behind Gion.
He had just overheard Vice Admiral Tsuru call her name.
He remembered that Gion was the name of the future admiral candidate, Momousagi (Pink Rabbit).
Could this young girl before him truly be Momousagi?
As they walked, Jon's expression changed.
Throughout the entire journey, he only saw female soldiers—there wasn't a single male Marine in sight.
This reminded him of something mentioned in the anime: Vice Admiral Tsuru's subordinates were all women.
A chill ran down his spine at the thought.
"Miss Gion, where are you taking me?" Jon couldn't help but ask.
The young Gion replied, "We'll be there soon."
After walking a few more minutes, Gion led Jon to a small courtyard.
"The vice admiral said that since we are all women and you are the only man, it wouldn't be appropriate for you to stay with us.
This courtyard has been specially prepared for you, and you'll be the only one living here."
Jon glanced around the courtyard, which was several hundred square meters in size.
It looked like a farmhouse, completely unlike the multi-story buildings they had passed earlier.
Despite this, Jon was quite satisfied.
Just moments ago, he had been worried that Vice Admiral Tsuru might force him to live among the female soldiers.
While most men would consider such a situation a dream come true, Jon felt it would be a nightmare.
The thought of being surrounded by female soldiers sent shivers down his spine.
"Thank goodness. I appreciate it, Miss Gion," Jon said gratefully.
Although Gion was still a young girl, she was already over two meters tall, about the same height as Jon.
"The vice admiral instructed that starting tomorrow, you will train with the rest of us female soldiers.
At 7 a.m., head to the plaza we passed earlier.
That's where we conduct our training," Gion reminded him.
Jon couldn't help but ask,
"Miss Gion, if I may ask, are all the soldiers in the Staff Department women?"
Gion seemed to understand his concern and covered her mouth, chuckling.
"Yes, while there are many male officers in the Staff Department, this area belongs to Vice Admiral Tsuru.
Unless they have official business, they rarely come here, nor do they live here.
"In all the time I've been here, you're the first male soldier to be stationed in the Staff Department."
"That can't be true," Jon muttered.
His suspicions confirmed, Jon became more anxious and asked,
"Can I find a place to live outside instead?"
Initially, Jon hadn't searched for housing himself because he assumed the department would handle it.
But now that this situation had arisen, he couldn't imagine staying here.
Even though the courtyard was independent, being surrounded by female soldiers felt overwhelming.
Gion's smile became even brighter, though it carried a hint of schadenfreude.
"Most men would kill to be in your position, yet you're trying to leave.
The vice admiral has ordered that you stay here.
You will train with us and remain part of the Staff Department until she gives you permission to leave."
"Well, my task is done.
Don't forget, 7 a.m. tomorrow at the plaza," she said before leaving.
"What did I do to deserve this?"
Jon sighed and walked into the courtyard, still feeling uneasy.
He couldn't believe he had ended up in a camp full of female soldiers.
What was Zephyr thinking? Was this some kind of cruel prank?
The courtyard was spacious, and Jon was pleased to see many plants growing around it.
It was evident that someone had cultivated them with care, which made Jon feel at ease.
Inside the house, everything was well-furnished.
The space was more than enough for one person; even a few more wouldn't make it crowded.
Having a private courtyard at Marine Headquarters was a rare privilege, and Jon hadn't expected such a benefit.
The next morning, Jon arrived at the plaza with a mixture of anticipation and embarrassment.
When he saw the hundreds of female soldiers gathered there, his legs began to shake.
He truly was a single man among countless women.
"Join the formation.
You'll form your own unit and stand here," Tsuru instructed.
Jon thought he had arrived early—Gion had told him training started at 7 a.m., so he showed up at 6:30.
But the other soldiers were already lined up in neat formations.
A quick glance was all it took for Tsuru to call him over and have him stand alone, feeling completely awkward.
Meanwhile, the female soldiers were even more stunned than Jon.
Everyone knew that Vice Admiral Tsuru's subordinates were all women.
The sudden appearance of a male soldier left them utterly amazed.
Tsuru spoke up.
"As you can see, starting today, Ensign Jon Lyons will train alongside you.
However, he will not be integrated into your units.
He will remain an officer assigned to the Staff Department."
Jon scanned the scene, forcing himself to stay calm.
There were hundreds of female soldiers dressed in identical training uniforms.
The world's culture was quite open, so their bare arms and legs left Jon feeling incredibly awkward.
It wasn't that Jon had never seen women before.
In his previous life, he had known many beautiful women, some of them stunningly gorgeous.
But this situation was entirely different.
He was now surrounded by women, and at such close proximity, the experience was overwhelming.
The female soldiers varied greatly in height.
The shorter ones were just over a meter tall, while the tallest stood over ten meters.
Several giant women were stationed near Jon.
This was his first time encountering members of the Giant Tribe, and in their presence, he felt utterly insignificant.
The female soldiers in this camp essentially formed Tsuru's personal unit.
Apart from her, only the Fleet Admiral could issue them orders.
Since they weren't often deployed, their primary task was training.
Jon joined the training sessions alongside the female soldiers.
Over time, he grew less embarrassed and focused more on improving himself.
However, during breaks, Jon often found himself at the mercy of the female soldiers.
As the only man, he was constantly teased, leaving him frustrated yet unable to retaliate.
Many would dream of being surrounded by women, but Jon felt his former classmates at the academy were far more endearing.
These female soldiers, to him, were a group of lunatics.
Half a year passed in the blink of an eye.
Jon felt like he had simply transferred from the Marine Academy to another school.
In six months, apart from training with the female soldiers, he hadn't been assigned a single mission or duty.
Every day felt monotonous and unproductive.
Initially, Jon struggled to adapt.
This was nothing like the Marine life he had envisioned.
Training with female soldiers was a constant challenge for him.
He had assumed his unique position would come with special privileges.
But the reality was quite the opposite.
These women were utterly merciless, showing no signs of "gentle treatment."
Reflecting on the relentless "torment" he had endured from these soldiers over the months, Jon trembled.
Women were indeed far scarier than men.
Jon had tried to resist, but his efforts were futile.
It was one against many, and some of the female soldiers were exceptionally strong.
He stood no chance and always ended up on the losing side.
Over time, he grew accustomed to the situation.
As he became more familiar with the female soldiers, their relationships improved.
They no longer teased him as much as they did in the beginning.
Jon spent his time training and honing his Devil Fruit abilities.
