One Piece: My code name is Green Bull

Chapter 30: Chapter 30: A Mission from the World Government

Standing in the courtyard, Jon Lyons basked in the sunlight.

After eating the Devil Fruit so long ago, he had discovered a particular quirk about his powers:

They seemed to fluctuate depending on the weather.

For example, on sunny days, he could grow plants faster and control them more easily compared to cloudy days.

Although the difference wasn't significant, over time, it became quite noticeable.

Additionally, through numerous experiments, he realized that different plants had different growth requirements.

Jon could create any plant he had seen before, but the energy required varied greatly.

For instance, creating a patch of weeds was effortless.

However, generating large plants was significantly more challenging.

If he had seeds for a specific plant, controlling and growing it became much easier.

As a result, Jon began collecting various seeds, especially those of large plants and trees.

If he encountered such seeds, he would keep them, as they enhanced his powers.

Moreover, he noticed another phenomenon.

After living as a Devil Fruit user for an extended period, he seemed to have acquired some plant-like traits.

Now, there were times when he could go three or four days without eating.

This was unusual, considering he underwent intense training daily.

In the past, he would need to consume several pounds of meat daily to sustain himself.

Yet now, even under heavy training, he could go days without food, almost as if he were conducting photosynthesis.

Although Jon hadn't studied biology in his previous life, he understood basic photosynthesis.

Plants, unlike animals, didn't need to consume food.

Through sunlight, air, and water, they could grow and develop.

Jon felt that he was becoming more like a plant, capable of using sunlight, air, and water to replenish his energy.

This partially replaced his need for food.

However, this phenomenon wasn't permanent.

After a few days, he still needed to eat to replenish his strength.

Additionally, the more intense his physical activities, the more food he needed to consume.

This ability reminded Jon of a certain individual from the world of One Piece: Green Bull.

Two years after the time skip, Green Bull joined Marine Headquarters through the World Military Draft.

He was a man who claimed he hadn't eaten in three years.

It was rumored that Green Bull was possibly a plant-based Devil Fruit user.

This would explain why he could go so long without food.

However, whether Green Bull was truly a Devil Fruit user remained unclear, known only to the series' creator.

By comparing himself to Green Bull, Jon believed that if he fully developed his powers, he too could potentially go years without eating.

Shaking his head, Jon dismissed these thoughts and continued honing his abilities.

Compared to six months ago, the courtyard had undergone significant changes.

The area was now filled with even more plants—flowers, grass, and trees.

It had essentially become a haven for vegetation.

Perhaps due to his powers, living among so many plants made Jon feel particularly relaxed and comfortable.

"Jon."

Suddenly, someone entered Jon's courtyard and called out to him.

Hearing the voice, Jon immediately recognized it as Gion's.

He opened his eyes and looked toward the gate, where Gion stood.

"What's the matter?" he asked.

After six months, Jon had become very familiar with the female soldiers of the Staff Department.

There weren't many of them, only a few hundred, and Jon could now recognize all of them.

His relationships with them were relatively good.

Among them, Jon interacted most frequently with Gion.

Whenever there was something to discuss, Gion was the one who came to him.

"The vice admiral wants to see you," Gion said.

"Vice Admiral Tsuru?"

Jon was surprised.

In the six months he had been here, Tsuru had never summoned him directly.

This was the first time.

With curiosity, Jon followed Gion to Tsuru's office.

It was the same office as six months ago where Jon once again met Vice Admiral Tsuru.

"Vice Admiral Tsuru, Ensign Jon Lyons reporting as ordered," Jon announced.

Tsuru gestured for him to come closer and said,

"Jon, you've been here for six months now, haven't you?"

"Yes, Vice Admiral. It's been six months," Jon replied truthfully.

"I've heard from a few people that you seem to be getting restless," Tsuru remarked.

Jon quickly denied it, "No, Vice Admiral, you misunderstand. I'm not restless at all. I truly enjoy my current life and training."

In truth, Jon was feeling a bit frustrated.

Watching his peers showcase their talents while he remained in the women's camp was naturally aggravating.

However, he knew better than to let Tsuru see his dissatisfaction.

Tsuru didn't expose Jon's lie and continued,

"Really? Well, if that's the case, then never mind.

I originally had a task for you, but since you're so content with your current life, I'll just assign it to someone else."

"Huh?"

Jon was stunned for a moment before realizing what was happening.

He quickly responded, "Wait, Vice Admiral, I—"

Tsuru chuckled lightly.

"I was joking. Do you think I don't know what you're thinking?

For someone your age to maintain such patience is already remarkable.

You're different from others—you won't stay here forever."

Jon listened quietly.

He had never intended to remain here indefinitely.

His goal was to become a powerful figure on the seas.

Staying here was far from his ambitions. Setting sail was his ultimate objective.

"Now, I have a task for you.

It's not particularly difficult, and it's just right for you," Tsuru said.

After more than six months of observation, Tsuru had a deep understanding of Jon.

Zephyr had been right—Jon was an incredibly talented individual.

Despite his young age, he already possessed considerable strength.

Someone like him could easily handle combat with pirates.

However, Tsuru agreed with Zephyr's assessment.

Jon's exceptional Observation Haki made him a natural leader, capable of becoming an outstanding commander.

But after observing Jon, Tsuru realized that he cared more about personal strength.

His training was far more intense than anyone else's.

After much deliberation, Tsuru decided not to keep Jon at Headquarters any longer.

A recent mission had arisen, one that wasn't too dangerous—perfect for Jon to undertake.

A task meant leaving Marine Headquarters, and Jon was thrilled at the prospect.

"Vice Admiral, please give me your orders," Jon said eagerly.

Tsuru explained,

"To be precise, this is an order from the World Government.

It's not about capturing pirates but rather apprehending certain individuals."

She frowned slightly before continuing,

"According to intelligence from the World Government's Cipher Pol, a group of individuals is seeking government secrets with the intent of overthrowing the regime.

The World Government has ordered the Navy to cooperate with Cipher Pol in capturing these individuals.

If they refuse to surrender, they are to be secretly executed."

Jon furrowed his brow upon hearing this.

He had assumed the mission would involve battling pirates, not carrying out orders from the World Government.

As he listened to Tsuru's explanation, Jon couldn't help but think of a possibility.

His familiarity with One Piece lore meant his mind was racing with potential implications.

If these people were investigating the secrets of the World Government to such an extent that they threatened its foundation, there was only one plausible explanation.

They were likely historians searching for Poneglyphs and uncovering the true history.
