Chapter 92: Marvel 92
Fury shifted his gaze to Black Widow, who was still catching her breath, leaning against the wall. She shook her head slightly, signaling that she was fine.
"She's just agitated," Fury explained, his voice softening slightly. "Her best friend is imprisoned by the enemy. The scepter was our lead to finding him, but now it's gone—vanished. And it disappeared because of your hands," Fury said, his single eye narrowing as he locked eyes with Max.
Max met Fury's glare without flinching. "If you're looking for someone to blame, maybe start with how poorly you've handled keeping your own secrets," Max shot back. "The scepter vanishing? That's on your inability to secure it, not me."
Fury's jaw tightened, but he held back his retort, choosing instead to take a deep breath. "This isn't about blame," he said finally. "This is about fixing the mess we're in. So, unless you're planning on making things worse, we need to focus."
Max smirked faintly, leaning forward. "Fine by me. Just remember, I'm not your pawn. If you want my help, you treat me like an ally, not some expendable asset."
Fury gave a small nod, though his expression remained guarded. "Understood," he said, before turning to the rest of the room. "Everyone, get ready. We've got work to do."
"No, you have some explaining to do." Captain America suddenly barged in, surprising everyone who thought the discussion had ended. He placed a sci-fi-looking gun on the table with a thud.
"Mind explaining why you're making weapons like Red Skull's, Fury?" he asked, his piercing gaze locked on the director. Tony shrugged, pointing at Fury. "Told you this guy is upto no good," he said casually.
"You're researching something you don't understand?" Bruce asked, his tone filled with concern. Fury, meeting everyone's accusing stares, sighed and pointed at Max.
"It's all his fault," Fury said, much to everyone's confusion.
"Huh?" Max blurted, baffled by the accusation.
Fury elaborated, "His powers are so dangerous that he could literally destroy the world if left unchecked. We needed something to counter him, so we started developing weapons."
Max's expression shifted to irritation as he pointed at Thor. "Actually, it's his fault."
"Mine? How is it my fault?" Thor asked, clearly caught off guard.
Max crossed his arms. "Your Asgard was tasked with protecting the Tesseract and keeping it out of the wrong hands. Instead, it ended up here on Earth, in the hands of this one-eyed bald guy," Max said, gesturing toward Fury.
Fury glared at and said, "I'm trying to protect Earth"
"yet your Asgardian relic caused this mess. It's also drawn the attention of someone worse. All because of you wanting to be in Control of power you don't understand" Max said.
"Worse? Who?" Tony asked, intrigued.
Max shook his head, clearly frustrated. "The point is, if your father, Odin, hadn't left this thing on Earth, none of this chaos would have happened."
Thor, uncharacteristically silent, seemed at a loss for words.
"Okay, clearly this isn't the time for blame games. First, we need to figure out why Loki took the Tesseract and what he plans to do with it," Bruce interjected, breaking the tension in the room. Everyone nodded in agreement.
"You're surprisingly calm for someone with, well... such a destructive reputation," Tony said, glancing at Bruce with a raised eyebrow.
Bruce gave a small shrug. "I've been training to keep it under control," he replied, his tone casual.
Tony smirked and nodded. "Good to know you're not the type to smash first and ask questions later."
Bruce shot him a half-smile. "I try."
"Still, the question remains: how do we locate the Cube now? Without the Scepter, we can't track it anymore," Fury said, frustration evident in his voice.
Max shrugged casually. "I can use my magic."
"Then use it and retrieve the Cube," Fury demanded, his tone firm.
Max smirked. "Have you already forgotten our deal? The Cube stays with me once I retrieve it," he replied, leaning back as if daring Fury to argue. Fury's expression darkened, but he remained silent.
An agent nearby, listening to their exchange, frowned and spoke up. "There is no such deal Fury could make without proper authority," he said sternly. "The Cube belongs to SHIELD, and you can't just walk away with it."
Max turned his gaze to the agent, his tone suddenly icy. "And what will SHIELD do with it? Or rather… HYDRA?" he asked pointedly, locking eyes with the agent.
The room tensed as Captain America stepped forward, his suspicion piqued. He grabbed the agent, pinning him against the wall. "You've been HYDRA all along," Steve said, his voice low and accusatory.
Before the agent could respond, another SHIELD operative raised his weapon to fire at Captain America. Tony, quick to react, blasted the weapon out of the operative's hands. "Really? Spies among spies?" Tony quipped, shaking his head. "And I thought things couldn't get more cliché."
"I mean the flag wearing superhero killed them all right?" Tony asked as Captain shook his head "That's what I thought too"
Max let out a sharp laugh. "Of course. HYDRA always finds a way to worm its way in. It's not about flags or nations—it's about power."
Steve, keeping the agent restrained, glanced back at the group. "They've been in SHIELD for years, thriving in the shadows. And now that we're hunting the Cube, they're coming out of hiding."
The restrained agent glared at Steve but said nothing. "Take him to holding," Steve ordered, pushing the agent toward two other SHIELD operatives who looked shaken but obedient.
"They're not done yet," Steve added grimly. "If HYDRA's still here, they'll stop at nothing to make their move."
"Of course they will not, Red Skull founded HYDRA and the Cube was also discovered by him too" Max said as he added "they must thought of that cube as theri property though they don't even know what exactly is it?" he chuckled saying as Fury looked at him.
"And you know what exactly is that CUBE?" Fury asked as once again everyone looked at him.
