Chapter 79: Chapter 79: It's Hatching
"Thinking everything is easy, huh? Did you really think I brought you out here for a picnic?"
Watching Cynthia and Gardevoir walk away, Ryo couldn't help but grumble.
Shaking his head, he turned around, ready to head back the way he came.
Crack—
At that moment, a faint sound reached Ryo's ears. He felt something shift and immediately turned his head to look.
"Rawr~"
A Deino had appeared out of nowhere, lowering its head and charging straight at him.
"What the—?!"
Ryo was completely caught off guard. He bent down and grabbed the Deino, his mouth twitching in disbelief.
What the heck was going on? Wasn't the system supposed to summon Pokémon with maxed-out affinity?
How was this maxed affinity when the Deino was straight-up attacking him? Wasn't this supposed to be trust, not hostility?
If he hadn't noticed that Deino wasn't using any actual force, he might have thought the system was malfunctioning.
"Rawr~"
The Deino, now caught, lifted its head.
Upon seeing Ryo, it hesitated for a moment before awkwardly grinning.
Ryo's eye twitched. "What are you doing?"
What was with that guilty look, like it got caught sneaking around?
He had no idea what was going on anymore.
"Rawr~"
Deino blinked a few times, then started struggling.
Ryo frowned. "Are you… challenging me?"
He was stunned. Was he misinterpreting this?
But the moment he finished speaking, Deino nodded seriously, staring at him with determination.
Ryo was speechless.
This was the first time he'd seen a Pokémon challenge him immediately after being summoned.
"Rawr~"
Seeing Ryo hesitate, Deino struggled again.
Ryo snapped out of it and set Deino down. "Fine. If you want to challenge me, go ahead."
"Rawr~"
Deino nodded, bracing itself to attack.
However, just when Ryo thought the battle was about to begin…
Deino suddenly turned and bolted in the opposite direction.
Ryo was completely dumbfounded, his expression frozen.
A second later, his mouth twitched.
"What the hell? Did I just get scammed by a Pokémon?"
Wasn't this supposed to be a challenge? Why was it running away?!
Could Pokémon even lie?
Sigh—
Ryo exhaled, watching Deino vanish into the distance.
"Forget it. Not worth worrying about."
Shaking his head, he resumed walking toward the cabin.
However, he hadn't gone far before he felt something again.
Turning around, he saw Deino charging toward him again, head lowered like before.
Ryo had no words.
Was it playing a game?
First time didn't work, so now it was trying again?
And why was it always aiming for his rear end? Did it have some sort of grudge against butts?!
Cough—
Suppressing his frustration, Ryo deliberately coughed.
Deino, oblivious, continued running straight at him.
But upon hearing the cough, it jerked its head up, saw Ryo staring right at it, and immediately pulled a U-turn, dashing away as fast as possible.
Ryo smirked. "Do it again, and you're not getting dinner tonight."
By now, he understood what was happening.
Deino wasn't trying to challenge him.
It was just being a mischievous little brat.
Hearing Ryo's warning, Deino sped up even more, disappearing into the woods.
Ryo shook his head and stopped paying attention, continuing down the mountain.
This time, Deino didn't show up again.
Whether it was actually scared or just realized it couldn't win, Ryo didn't know.
But none of that was his concern.
Returning to the cabin, he greeted Dragonite and Espeon before settling in to train.
—
He didn't know how much time had passed when—
Crack.
A faint shattering sound made him open his eyes.
Looking around, his gaze landed on the incubator.
His expression froze as he scanned the room.
"Oh, crap."
Of all the times for the egg to hatch… it had to be while Cynthia was away?
Wasn't this just asking to get him killed?
Cynthia spent most of her time watching over the egg.
Even when training her Pokémon, she would constantly check on it.
And now?
Now it was hatching when she wasn't here?!
Ryo could already imagine the rage Cynthia would unleash when she found out.
Would she come at him with a kitchen knife?
"Maybe I can hold her back and keep her from finding out…?"
He pondered, slowly stepping toward the door.
But before he could act—
"Ryo! If you don't get me more ice cream, don't expect me to help next time!"
Cynthia's voice echoed from outside.
Ryo exhaled in relief before immediately shouting back.
"Cynthia! Cynthia! Get in here—Diancie is hatching!"
"Hatching?!"
"WHAT?! IT'S HATCHING?!"
Suddenly, hurried footsteps echoed through the air.
Ryo turned towards the back door, and the next second, he saw Cynthia rushing inside.
Her speed was so fast that Ryo was genuinely shocked.
How was she covering two or three meters in a single stride?
Was she jumping instead of running?
As Ryo stood there in stunned silence, Cynthia had already arrived at the incubator, her gaze intense.
Seeing the tiny crack forming on the egg's surface, she let out a relieved breath before staring unblinkingly.
"It's really about to hatch," she murmured, her voice trembling with excitement.
Her expression was filled with pure joy.
Watching her, Ryo shook his head but said nothing, stepping closer as well.
He couldn't deny that he was just as excited.
After all, this was Diancie hatching!
A Mythical Pokémon was about to be born!
And it belonged to him.
How could he not be thrilled?
Crack—
As Ryo approached, the crack on the eggshell widened.
The entire egg began to tremble slightly.
Crack, crack—
With each passing second, the fissures grew larger, until suddenly, a small pink hand broke through the shell.
Seeing this, both Ryo and Cynthia couldn't contain their excitement.
They instinctively clenched their fists, their hearts pounding.
Crack—
Then, half of the eggshell broke apart, revealing a cute face and a pair of large, sparkling eyes staring back at them.
And then, in a sweet, delicate voice, it called out—
"Ma... Master."
