Chapter 107: Chapter 107: Mr. Max
Chapter 107: Mr. Max
Alexander's attitude made Kate frown. She asked, "Do you really not like Sophia?"
Alexander replied, "Didn't she make it clear enough? We just enjoy discussing novel plots together."
Normally, Kate wouldn't believe such a thing, but seeing Alexander's indifferent attitude now, she felt she might have truly misunderstood.
Kate angrily stood up. "Forget it. I misunderstood you. Bringing you here was completely unnecessary."
She wondered, Is Alexander really a man? How could he not be moved by such a beautiful girl like Sophia? It was… such a waste of feelings! All her careful plans had come to nothing.
Kate shot a resentful glare at Alexander and turned to leave.
Just then, a cold voice sounded behind her. "Did I say you could leave?"
Kate turned around and saw Alexander looking down at her with an air of superiority, which struck her as laughable.
She sneered, "I was only polite to you because of Sophia. Who do you think you are? A lowlife from the old town, daring to speak to me like this? If it weren't for Sophia, with that arrogant attitude, you'd be dead already."
Inwardly, she cursed Sophia, wondering why she would associate with someone so crude. What goes through the minds of these family brats? Kate finished speaking and reached for the door handle.
"Ah!" Kate cried out in surprise.
She looked down to see an emerald-white flame igniting on the door handle. The fire didn't harm the handle in the slightest, but it scorched her hand!
Behind her, Alexander's cold voice continued.
"You've done a thorough investigation on me, yet I know almost nothing about your family. Care to enlighten me?"
Kate turned around, her face filled with shock. This didn't seem like the demeanor of someone with the talent of a mere commoner. That fire… it must be of a high level, right? If so, was all the information she'd gathered about Alexander recently completely false?! Was the entire Bluewater City complicit in lying for him?
Kate instantly gathered her inner strength, glaring sharply at Alexander. "Who… exactly are you?"
Alexander moved his fingers, and flickering white flames appeared. Several blue-green lotus flowers bloomed in the space between his fingers, filling the room.
The flames floated around Kate, radiating intense heat. One wrong move, and she would be engulfed.
"I'm no match for him! He could kill me!" This thought flashed through Kate's mind.
She swallowed hard, her brain working fast. "You… you've hidden your true strength well. So, Bluewater City has someone like you. But I'm sure you wouldn't dare kill me. If you did, the family would track you down and root you out from Bluewater City. You've worked so hard to keep hidden in Bluewater City; surely you wouldn't want to expose yourself?"
She said this with confidence. Her death in Bluewater City would surely alarm her family. She had a hunch that the young man in front of her was connected to the group that had massacred the family's villa a few days ago. Wasn't there supposed to be a fire-type user among the culprits? Could it be him?
Alexander looked at her with a playful expression and said in a low voice, "Welma won't be showing up at Giovani's banquet tonight. If you were killed by an A-ranked Awakener with ice abilities, who do you think the blame would fall on?"
Before Kate could respond, a chill filled the room.
She felt goosebumps rise on her skin.
The curtains by the window shifted, catching her attention.
Her pupils dilated suddenly.
A man dressed in a white suit and wearing a ghastly smiling mask had appeared, crouching on the windowsill in a twisted pose.
Starving Ghost, Yamato.
Kate instinctively backed away. "You all… ah!" She had bumped into the white fire lotus Alexander had conjured, burning her back.
Alexander spoke softly, "You've investigated me thoroughly, yet I know nothing about you. Care to explain?"
Kate clutched her pounding chest, saying, "I… I can't tell you. They won't let me go."
Alexander's voice drifted coldly, "Kill her."
Kate's heart thumped wildly as she felt the murderous intent of the two men in front of her.
Yamato took out a dagger from his jacket, licking his purplish lips, then launched himself at Kate like a dove flying through a window.
Terrified, Kate watched Yamato coming closer and screamed, "No! I'll talk!"
The dagger, radiating coldness, paused at Kate's pale neck. Yamato turned to look at Alexander, waiting for his signal.
Kate quickly said, "You can't kill me. I'm useful to you! I'll tell you everything!"
Alexander quietly waited for Kate to speak, and Yamato's dagger moved slightly away from her.
Kate took two hurried breaths and began, "The Divine Family is the largest in North Bay, with involvement in all sectors—restaurants, advertising, real estate…"
Alexander frowned and interrupted, "Tell me something I don't know."
Kate nodded repeatedly, "Yes, yes! The reason the Divine Family can call the shots in North Bay is because of a powerful organization backing us."
Alexander looked satisfied, "Tell me about this extraordinary group."
She hesitated for a moment, then asked, "Have you heard of the Moon-Worship Cult?"
Most of these powerful organizations operate in secret, but there's often more insider knowledge among them.
There aren't many of these extraordinary forces; they're rare.
Alexander murmured the words, "Moon-Worship Cult?"
Wasn't his guardian, the Beast King, once a part of this extraordinary organization?
In Bluewater City, at the Divine Family's villa.
Sophia's brother, along with members of his family who had come to expand their influence in Bluewater City, stood at the villa entrance. The cold wind whipped around them, yet they wore only suits. To show respect, they dared not cover themselves with coats.
They were waiting—for a very important guest.
In the distance, a black SUV approached, and Sophia's brother immediately jogged forward to meet it. His face showed nothing but flattery, far from the usual proud demeanor of the Divine Family's eldest son.
The black SUV pulled up, and a man in a suit and sunglasses stepped out from the passenger seat, heading for the back door. But Sophia's brother shoved him aside, humbly opening the door himself for the person in the back seat.
As the door opened, two glamorous women dressed in fur, showing off their bare legs, stepped out.
Supporting them was an elderly man in a gray long robe who slowly exited the car.
Bowing, Sophia's brother carefully adjusted the elder's robe, ignoring the dust on his own expensive trousers. He straightened up, still bowed slightly. "Mr. Max, thank you for making the long journey."
This Mr. Max was indeed a senior figure from the Moon-Worship Cult.
Dozens of Awakeners from the Divine Family had been killed, and the leading figure was also a member of the Moon-Worship Cult. The cult could not ignore this incident.
Mr. Max gently brushed off his robe, wrapped an arm around the waist of the woman next to him, and silently walked into the villa.
Sophia's brother was unfazed by Mr. Max's haughty demeanor and followed him into the villa.
Inside, on the first floor, Mr. Max sat on the sofa, with Sophia's brother standing cautiously in front of him.
Mr. Max spoke softly, "Sit."
Only then did Sophia's brother dare to sit, perching on the edge of the sofa, half his seat touching it. "I never thought such a small matter would trouble you personally."
Mr. Max snorted coldly, "Hmph, your family's handling of things has become increasingly sloppy. Coming to Bluewater City, and already stirring up trouble! But it doesn't matter; it's a trivial issue to me."
