Chapter 106: You Can't Even Enter the Divine Family's Gate—But I Can Help You
Sophia forced a slightly fake smile as she extended her hand to Giovanni.
"Happy Birthday, Mr. Giovanni."
She didn't actually know Giovanni's name but overheard others calling him "Mr. Giovanni."
Wrinkles on Giovanni's face deepened with his grin.
He was once a lowly street thug, surviving by the blade, all for the sake of becoming someone of importance, wasn't he? The Divine family was, without a doubt, a noble family in Base Country 3.
A "happy birthday" from a lady of such standing meant more than anything else.
Giovanni, a bit overwhelmed, clasped Sophia's hand.
"Thank you, thank you."
Sophia apologized gently, "I have a few friends over there. I'll go say hello, please excuse me."
In the North Sea region, did she really have any friends? Not likely.
She just wanted to get Alexander out of there, knowing he might feel uncomfortable in such a setting.
Giovanni laughed cheerfully. "Go right ahead, go right ahead."
Sophia glanced disapprovingly at Kate before leaving with Alexander.
Kate and Giovanni watched their retreating figures, each with their own thoughts.
Kate wore a hint of a smile.
She imagined that this poor guy would finally understand the gap between himself and his "goddess" when he saw how respectfully the North Sea region's big boss treated her. Surely, he must be breaking out in a cold sweat!
With a little maneuvering, wouldn't this guy be under her control in no time? Keep feeling lost, little brother!
Meanwhile, Giovanni's gaze was filled with bewilderment, and he didn't even dare make eye contact with Alexander.
Something about that young man seemed oddly familiar.
Testing the waters, Giovanni asked Kate, "Haha, all the friends around Miss Sophia seem to be extraordinary! Look at Mr. Alexander—what a refined gentleman! Where does he work?"
Kate replied with a touch of disdain, "He's just a small shareholder in a café."
Giovanni's eyes suddenly went wide, and his heart chilled.
A café.
The image of a crying ghost mask, cold, emotionless eyes, and a black tracksuit flashed in his mind.
The Chairman's shadow overlapped with Alexander's.
Giovanni quickly adjusted his expression, but his knees were still trembling.
Could the Chairman have come specifically to see if he was trying to join the Divine family?
Kate, oblivious to Giovanni's sudden anxiety, laughed coquettishly.
"Mr. Giovanni, I'm new here as well. Won't you take me to meet some of the local legends of the North Sea region?"
Giovanni immediately gestured politely, "Miss Kate, please head up to the second floor."
Kate glanced at him questioningly. "You're not coming with me?"
Giovanni forced a bitter smile. "Got a cramp. You go ahead."
Kate cast a quick look at his twitching leg and thought to herself, Even a battle-hardened fighter can get a cramp?
She ignored him and walked up to the second floor alone.
Once she was gone, Giovanni shakily waved to the distance, and Crazy Wolf rushed over at once.
"Boss, your orders?"
Giovanni patted Crazy Wolf's shoulder. "Follow Miss Sophia, and make sure no one crosses them."
He didn't dare mention Alexander's name. Just one wrong word could provoke Alexander's displeasure.
Meanwhile, Sophia and Alexander were strolling through the opulent, culturally rich exhibition hall.
The place was indeed lively.
Prominent figures were having quiet conversations all around, and several movie stars had come to liven up the event.
To high society, this setting was truly ideal.
But for some ordinary folk, this kind of environment could feel overwhelming.
Sophia apologized sincerely. "I'm sorry. I didn't expect Kate to bring us here. I thought we'd just be going for a casual outing."
Alexander's impression of Sophia improved.
At the very least, she seemed unaware of his true status yet still extended genuine kindness.
He could tell that Sophia brought him away from the social center out of consideration for his comfort.
Alexander smiled slightly. "It's fine. Otherwise, I'd never have had the chance to come here."
"Actually, I wanted to check this place out back in my school days."
Sophia snuck a look at his profile, quietly observing his expression.
Alexander's attitude toward her was the same as ever.
It was as if this high-society gathering was nothing more than a simple snack street to him.
The phrase 'calm and composed' surfaced in Sophia's mind.
Sophia sighed in relief.
"I thought you might feel a bit uncomfortable here."
Alexander turned his head.
"Why?"
Sophia grinned.
"Well, if I went somewhere I'd never been before, especially a place that looks this fancy, I'd definitely feel uneasy."
As she said this, she seemed nothing like the eldest daughter of the Divine family.
In some ways, Alexander and Sophia were quite alike.
Unmoved by material gains, and undisturbed by personal sorrows.
At first, Alexander found this place somewhat interesting, as it represented the North Sea region's cultural heritage.
But the more he saw, the less interested he became.
Apart from true masters, those who liked this place were just social climbers.
In this era, were there any true masters left?
Both felt bored, so they found a quiet spot to discuss novel plots.
Sophia often inspired Alexander.
The Hunter Guild shouldn't just be filled with warriors; it should also have people from other fields.
For instance, science—otherwise, the hunters weren't much different from strong-armed thugs.
Take, for example, a recent experiment where monsters were sealed within human bodies, granting humans partial monster abilities. This was the power of "science."
Such technology should be the foundation of extraordinary powers.
Alexander was considering recruiting people with such talents.
Once the North Sea region was completely stable, it was time to extend his reach into the monster's lairs.
Surely, there were many intelligent magical beasts in those lairs.
Who said humans were always the ones defending the walls? Why couldn't humans invade the monsters' territory?
The two were engrossed in their conversation until Sophia received a phone call.
Sophia apologized.
"Alexander, Kate called me. Wait here, and I'll be back soon."
After Sophia left, Alexander walked over to a nearby coffee machine.
The staff made him a cup of coffee, and he took a sip.
Not as good as the coffee made by Yun Yun.
"Do you like coffee?"
A soft voice came from behind him.
He turned around to see Kate smiling at him.
Alexander smiled back.
"I thought Sophia went to find you."
Kate was slightly startled.
She thought she saw a hint of mischief in Alexander's eyes.
No, it must have been her imagination.
Just a co-owner of a small café, and yet he could keep his composure in a place like this—quite admirable.
Composing herself, Kate spoke.
"I have something to discuss with you. Is now convenient?"
Alexander nodded slowly.
On the third floor, in a reception room.
The atmosphere here was more formal compared to the cultural vibe outside.
At the long meeting table, Kate sat beside Alexander and spoke seriously.
"I know you like Sophia, but with your status, you can't even get through the front gate of her home."
Since coming to this world, Alexander had only been mocked twice.
Once by Jack Huang, and now by Kate.
Alexander lightly tapped the table with his fingers, his gaze lowered.
"What do you want to say?"
Kate frowned slightly.
"I can help you win over Sophia, as long as you do me a favor."
Alexander raised an eyebrow.
"I'm listening."
Kate sensed something off in Alexander's reaction.
Wasn't she supposed to be his benefactor?
Why did it feel like she was the one seeking his help?
