Chapter 108: Chapter 108: Giovani Knows Too Much
Chapter 108: Giovani Knows Too Much
Mr. Max reclined comfortably on the sofa, eyes closed, and asked, "So, has anyone found out who went on that killing spree here a few days ago?"
Sophia's brother lowered his head cautiously, replying, "No, we only know that the culprit is a B-rank master, which is why we troubled you to come."
Mr. Max scoffed, "Having a high talent rank doesn't necessarily mean strong combat power. Experience, intuition, and the unique nature of one's abilities all play a big part. Since I'm handling this, there's no cause for worry."
The Moon-Worship Cult was originally an assassin organization, with disciples well-versed in deadly arts. In terms of combat power, they were indeed stronger than others of the same rank.
Sophia's brother pondered for a moment and said seriously, "According to Ethan Blake, the attackers weren't alone. There were at least three of them. It would be wise for you to remain vigilant."
Mr. Max, though powerful in a one-on-one of the same rank, could be at a disadvantage if the enemy outnumbered him.
Mr. Max's brow furrowed slightly. "Three people? Three B-ranks?" Then, in a deep voice, he asked, "And who is this Ethan Blake?"
Sophia's brother replied, "He's the chief captain of the Bluewater City security forces."
The serious look on Mr. Max's face disappeared, replaced by a disdainful sneer. He snorted dismissively, "I thought you meant someone important. A security chief? Just a sack of wine and food! How dare he even mention B-ranks?"
Mr. Max was from North Bay, and he knew exactly what the security captains there were like. One D-rank who relied on family connections to secure his position. The North Bay security captain stayed busy every day—just not with security.
Honestly, that's what security captains are like all over the world. After all the effort it takes to reach the top, wouldn't they prioritize making money and enjoying life? Protecting strangers and caring about public safety? Only a saint would do that!
Sophia's brother, seeing Mr. Max's reaction, dared not push the topic further. After all, if trouble arose, the Moon-Worship Cult would bear the burden. The intricate dealings between these extraordinary forces were not his to manage.
The two women in fur coats continued to flirt with Mr. Max, who was clearly enjoying their attention. Seeing that Mr. Max was getting overwhelmed, Sophia's brother grinned and said, "Mr. Max, please head upstairs; your room has been prepared. Later, we'll take you to the finest restaurant in Bluewater City to welcome you."
Mr. Max, already eager to experience a "night of bliss," smiled and wrapped his arms around the two women, heading upstairs.
At that moment, a ring on Sophia's brother's finger suddenly shattered, and his face changed dramatically. He wore five rings, each bearing a small character that held spiritual information about the Divine Family's outer disciples, representing the lives of five members. The shattered ring bore the character "K," which meant that Kate was dead!
Mr. Max noticed the broken ring on Sophia's brother's hand, his eyes narrowing. He knew exactly what it signified since this ring was crafted by the Grand Elder of the Moon-Worship Cult.
"Who died?" Mr. Max asked.
Sophia's brother's eyes filled with alarm. "Kate, an outer-circle C-rank, just died!"
Mr. Max's expression darkened. He had only just arrived, and a member of the Divine Family had already died—this was like a slap in the face. Ignoring the two women, he asked coldly, "Where was she last seen?"
Bluewater City Exhibition Center, Meeting Room.
Alexander sat in a chair, wearing white gloves, flipping through an art book he'd taken from the display case in the meeting room. These were no replicas but genuine hand-drawn works by master artists.
In his previous life, Alexander had studied fine arts, so he enjoyed these pieces immensely. Generally, these works were meant for display only, not to be handled, but as the true master of Bluewater City, Alexander didn't feel the need to ask anyone's permission to look through them.
Alexander, reclining in his seat, casually flipped through the art book, feeling no need to ask anyone's permission as the true master of Bluewater City.
Yamato stood respectfully by Alexander's side. On the floor lay a beautiful woman, none other than Kate.
Outside the door, heavy and hurried footsteps approached, then stopped. A knock sounded.
Yamato walked over and opened the door.
Giovani looked at the man with the ghostly white smiling mask and felt a wave of anxiety. This confirmed his suspicion—the young man he had met today was indeed the President.
Without a word, Yamato gestured for Giovani to enter.
Giovani nodded, bowing and wiping the cold sweat from his forehead as he cautiously stepped inside. The once-mighty underground king was nowhere to be seen; instead, Giovani fell to his knees with a thud, too afraid to lift his head. "Y-you could have told me earlier that you were coming, Mr. President," he stammered.
Alexander spoke softly, "Happy birthday."
Giovani pressed his forehead to the ground, shouting, "Thank you, President, for your blessing!"
But inwardly, he was deeply unsettled. He had no idea what the President's intentions were. Was he here to silence him for knowing his true identity? But he hadn't seen the President's full face, only a partial profile. Giovani recognized him solely based on his physique, which was a skill that had saved his life countless times.
This had also been true with Yvette. When Dog Woman hosted the Hunters' Meeting, Giovani had realized she was actually Yvette. He might know more than anyone in the guild.
Alexander pointed to Kate, lying on the floor, and asked, "Do you know this woman?"
Giovani glanced at Kate, feeling a chill run down his spine, making his hair stand on end. He swallowed and hurriedly explained, "President, she once invited me to join the Moonlight Trading Guild, but I refused! I would never betray you, President. Please believe me!"
Sweat poured from Giovani's forehead as he continued frantically, "This woman deserved to die! Everyone in the guild knows I'm the most loyal! Trying to recruit me? Dream on! President, rest assured—I'm responsible for her death, and I'll make sure it doesn't bring any trouble to the guild! Thank you, President, for handling this foul woman for me!"
Alexander gave Giovani a surprised look. This old man was quite talkative on the guild chat, but it turned out he was even chattier in real life.
Amused, Alexander said, "Maybe not the most loyal, but definitely the smartest. You know better than anyone the consequences of betraying the guild."
Hearing this, Giovani felt a slight relief. He kept his head lowered, too afraid to look up, worried Alexander might not be wearing his mask.
Carefully, he asked, "So, President, what are your orders?"
Alexander spoke softly, "You're responsible for taking this woman to the Rasputin Bar. Make sure no one sees you."
Though Yamato could easily handle moving Kate, Alexander wanted to avoid any mishaps. This was Giovani's territory, and it was best for him to take care of it.
Giovani replied firmly, "Rest assured, President, I'll take care of it without disturbing your enjoyment!"
After a long pause, Giovani finally dared to look up, only to find the meeting room empty, with Kate's body the sole remaining presence.
Trembling, Giovani pulled out his phone. "Mad Wolf!"
