Genocide Reality

Chapter 14 - The Furry Girl Nicknamed Ussa or Usausa

On the sixth floor, the same kind of Mustard Dragon that appeared as a boss earlier appeared, but.

The poisonous dragon, which boasted a huge body, was no longer anything more than a small fry to me, who had obtained the ‘Solitude’.

“Ha!”

Before I let it exhale its poison breath, I immediately circled around to its side and gave it a sharp thrust to its vital spot.

Did the breath sac tear, and the poison spread through its body? The mustard dragon sprawled out and died in agony.

If it were me right now, I could take on two such small fries at the same time and still defeat them.

Of course, I didn’t bother to take such a risk and steadily defeated them one by one. By the way, if you don’t rupture the poison breath sac, you can eat the flesh of mustard dragons.

Like the giant poisonous worm, the flesh is not poisonous. The poisonous purple scales are only on the surface, and once the scales are peeled off, the red, delicious-looking flesh comes out.

Simply drain the blood and enjoy the non-poisonous and tasty parts of the meat. The rest would be eaten by the scavenger slimes.

Looking at the same color of flesh inside, it may have originally been the same species as the Lesser Dragon.

Did the Mustard Dragon evolve by ingesting poison from a chemical substance in its womb?

Thinking about the evolution of the monsters, I proceeded to defeat them.

Then I saw an NPC locked in a prison cell in front of me, I thought to myself, “Ah, this is the floor where Ussa is, isn’t it?”

Ussa, or Usausa, or Usako, as she is called. She is a nameless NPC girl with rabbit ears.

Incidentally, she is called “Rabitta Rabbit” in other countries.

The reason why she is called by such a strange name is that she has two big white fluffy “rabbit tails” on her butt prominent when she turns her head around.

However, the rabbit tails, fully visible in the game, seem to be hidden by a long skirt.

I guess the tails are not exposed because of the improved reality compared to the game.

Anyway, if you look at that cute little furball, you can see why this NPC is called Usausa. I prefer the word “Ussa” though.

Ussa’s rabbit ears are long and big. They extend jauntily from her vivid peach-colored long hair. They are real rabbit ears, white with a light pink inside.

She is a girl with bunny ears, which is not so unusual at this time. When she turns toward you and tilts her head, the ribbon attached to her blue hairpin sways along with her rabbit ears.

Her appearance is also cute as usual. She has blue eyes, perfectly white skin, and round, egg-shaped cheeks.

If it weren’t for her long ears, she might look like an ordinary European beauty.

In realistic Western games, characters tend to have really realistic and sometimes scary faces. However, GenoReal is an older game, so the character appears as a youthful, childlike beauty with a Wonderland-inspired appearance, which has been highly stylized.

I am glad that it is not a game with a lot of polygons.

Due to the extreme stylization, her body was petite, yet her chest and buttocks were disproportionately large.

With those protrusions, I wondered if she could even see where she was walking. It seemed like her everyday life might be quite challenging, and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for how her chest stuck out so prominently.

Another distinctive feature of Ussa is her blue and white maid outfit. Thanks to that, she’s often referred to as the top “moe” character in GenoReal.

In Japan, it’s called a “maid outfit,” but back when GenoReal was popular, that culture didn’t exist, so it’s probably more of a fairytale-inspired apron dress.

Although she is wearing an apron dress with cute frills, she is carrying a large backpack on her back since she is set up as an adventurer. This imbalance embodies a strange kind of moe.

In GenoReal, where there are only a few NPCs who appear on the stage, she was a valuable addition to the game.

Incidentally, she fell into a prison trap in a very tragic situation: she came to the labyrinth with quite a few rabbit tribe warriors leading to this point, and they were all wiped out, leaving her behind.

Of course, since this is GenoReal, a tragic fate awaits her as soon as she appears, even though she is moe and cute.

If you continue straight down the passage to the prison, a trap activates, and she is crushed when the ceiling falls from above.

Moreover, after Ussa is crushed to death, the hanging ceiling slowly rises, revealing the pink-colored mincemeat that was crushed.

The next time I played, I tried to find a way to rescue her, but simply searching for traps in the passage triggered the trap, and she died.

After a dozen save-loads and a dozen times of turning Ussa into minced meat, I finally figured it out. I realized that I should not go through the passage.

The movement of Ussa, which was rattling the bars to ask for help, was itself a trap, so I should not try to save her.

Instead, I could bypass the passage to the right, find a hidden door, and go around.

Then, if you go straight to the front of the prison, Ussa will be released from the prison.

Traps like these are quite simple once you understand their nature. Surprisingly, traps work better when they’re simple; simplicity is what makes them effective.

The door of the prison where Ussa is being held can be easily opened from the outside by pulling a lever.

From this mousetrap-like structure, I guess there was some bait in the cage, and Ussa got caught in the booby trap trying to get it.

“Ahhhh, agh…”

“Agh?”

The rabbit girl staggered to her feet and rolled out of her prison, her face turning red and tears streaming from her blue eyes.

Whether she was crying out of emotion or relief from her life-threatening situation, her reaction was somewhat understandable. However, I wished the event would proceed quickly. I didn’t have time to spare.

But I couldn’t just order the cute girl with rabbit ears to “stop crying quickly”.

As I waited patiently for her to be able to say something, she bowed her head in gratitude.

“I don’t know who you are, but thank you for saving me!”

“Sure, sure.”

It wasn’t that I was trying to help her in particular.

I just didn’t let her die because I knew how not to.

If she survives in this way, Ussa will give you a lucky item, a ‘rabbit tail,’ so there’s no harm in helping her out.

The lucky item will be one of the two white tails that grow out of her big buttocks, pushing up her blue skirt from the inside.

The rabbit’s tail is an item that is not very useful, but as a rare collector, I would like to have it.

The fluffy, round tuft of fur could be considered a soothing item to alleviate dungeon boredom.

In Western culture, the lucky item is often considered to be a “rabbit’s foot”,” but in GenoReal it is a “rabbit’s tail.

It is funny that GenoReal insists on strange originality in such an unimportant point.

The rabbit is an animal that lives by digging holes, so it seems appropriate as a symbol of good luck in the dungeon.

“Um, I’m thirsty… May I have some water?

“A spring should be… Oh, yeah, here.”

As it would be pitiful to use a hand-pour, I gave her a flask.

Even NPCs are alive and breathing in the world of GenoReal.

“Thank you very much. Sharing the same flask feels like an indirect kiss, doesn’t it?”

“Huh?”

What’s with this busty rabbit’s way of talking? It gives me the creeps. It reminds me of Kumiko’s annoying antics when she said “indirect kiss” in particular.

Don’t act all bashful. We don’t need such cheap developments in a serious game.

It would be best if she just handed over the ‘Rabbit’s Tail’ and disappeared. She drinks water gulping it down loudly, looking like she’s enjoying it.

I became a bit curious about the NPC’s thirst and hunger, so I tried to feed her.

“Oh right, how about this?”

“Oh, that’s dragon meat! My absolute favorite!”

Huh, weren’t rabbits supposed to be herbivores? Well, there are no vegetables in the dungeon, so I guess there’s no choice but to eat meat to avoid starving.

With munching sounds, she adorably eats the grilled dragon meat with her small mouth, but despite her cute appearance, this rabbit, known as Ussa, has sharp teeth.

Why does she have canine teeth when she is a rabbit?

Well, in terms of the setting, she is the last survivor of the selected members of the rabbit tribe, so she must be a strong creature in her own right.

The party that came with her was wiped out completely, and she was the last one to die, crushed by the falling ceiling.

In the game, if you save her, she should give you the ‘Rabbit’s Tail,’ say thank you, and then disappear.

It’s just a brief encounter, but if I can chat with her like this, maybe I can learn more about GenoReal.

“Hey, Ussa. Can I ask you a few questions?”

“You can ask me anything.”

For example, how did they get into this sealed dungeon?

These guys are NPCs, so they might be able to do anything, but there are so many fine details in here that there might actually be an entrance route they used.

I don’t really care because I don’t plan to leave the dungeon anyway, but I think it might be a good idea to let Seki and the others out.

Except for those who are reclusive by nature, people who stay in a closed space for a long time may start fighting due to stress.

If that happens, it would be even more troublesome, so it would be best if we could get those who are in the way out of the dungeon.

As I was silently pondering this, Ussa tilted her head and asked me timidly,

“But, um, I’ve been wondering since a while ago, who is this ‘Ussa’ you’re calling…?”

“I’m talking about you, Ussa.”

“What, me?” Ussa pointed to herself, making a subtle expression.

“I have a proud name that I inherited from my ancestors, Alisdair Adelaide Alphonsina Angelique Allette Arabel Aline Diana. Such a monstrous name is a bit unpleasant.”

“It’s long. If you don’t like Ussa, you can choose from Usausa, Usako, or Rabitta Rabbit.”

I’m not going to try to learn a name that’s hard to remember and unnecessarily long.

It’s just for this occasion anyway, and it’s an unimportant setting.

“Among those, Usako is cute and nice.”

“Okay, then your name is Ussa from now on. I will call you Ussa.”

“Okay, Ussa is fine… And Rabitta Rabbit is the name of our tribe. Did you know about us?”

“Oh, so there was such a setting.”

“Setting?”

Ussa made a curious face. The conversation is not going well. It’s no wonder.

There’s no way the conversation would align between creatures living in the game and me.

“That’s fine; just explain briefly how you Rabitta Rabbits got here. I came from the city above, but it’s sealed off from the outside, and I couldn’t get out.”

“That’s right. This dungeon can be entered from the outside, but you can’t exit from the inside. We entered from above the city. We came here to stop the Genesis Collapse and save the world.”

Ussa assures me with a tightened face. I see, there is no escape from this place until we clear it.

Ussa asserted with a serious expression. I see, so you can’t escape from here until you clear it.

Hmm, in their lore, ‘Genocide Reality’ seems to be translated as ‘Genesis Collapse’.

“Yes, the labyrinth of the Genesis Collapse was born from all the guilt and sludge that the Creator God, Ji-Or-sama, sealed up in the depths of the earth during the creation of the world.”

Ussa speaks cheerfully like a priestess speaking the words of god.

“It was wrong for the people of the earth to lose their Amor Mundi or love for the world. The foolish tragedies and atrocities repeated by humans piled up in the depths of the earth, and finally, the chaotic god Roaring Chaos was born. If we don’t stop the invasion of the chaotic god Roaring Chaos underground, this world, Mundus, will face its doom. We have come to stop the Genesis Collapse!”

Ussa, who had been speaking so excitedly there, turned her head down and let her ears droop as if she was thinking of the consequences. The expedition team was wiped out, leaving only Ussa behind.

This is almost the same as what I know of GenoReal. I had never heard that these rabbit warriors were called the Rabitta Rabbits.

I thought it was a common name in English-speaking countries, but there may have been some backstory that was not written in the Japanese translation of the official reference book.

After all, GenoReal’s home is the United States. It would have been great if I could read English websites like my native language. I had some trouble understanding certain parts as I read while translating difficult words.

“Hmmm…”

Ussa spoke to me as I pondered again.

“Um, are you a member of the human expedition team?”

“…Well, yeah, it’s like that.”

It’s too much trouble to explain.

There was no point in talking to an NPC who would part with me as soon as I got the item anyway.

“May I ask your name?”

“My name is Shinjo Wataru.”

“Shinjo Wataru-sama, that sounds very strange. Black hair, black eyes… You have an unusual face. I have never seen a person with pale orange skin, neither white nor brown. Are you from a distant province?”

“Yes, quite far…”

Ussa asked me a lot of detailed questions, and I was getting more and more annoyed.

And maybe it was because I hadn’t talked to someone in a while, but I was getting tired.

I think I’ve asked everything I can, so I should just ask Ussa for the item and be on my way.

“Wataru-sama…”

“Ussa, can you give me the ‘rabbit’s tail’ already?”

As if on cue, Ussa’s long, drooping bunny ears stretched to the ceiling, her white cheeks turned bright red, and her body stiffened.

What a violent reaction, it’s like an instantaneous water heater.

“W-w-wha?!”

“…What’s wrong? Did I say something strange?”

“How dare you say such a thing out of the blue! That’s the kind of thing you should say when you get to know someone better. It’s rude to say such a thing when you first meet someone.”

“Is that so?”

When are you planning to hand it over if not at our first meeting?

By the way, if you examine the crushed corpse, you can get a ‘blood-soaked rabbit’s tail,’ but it turns into an unlucky item.

It means you can’t force her to tear it off. Unless she gives it to you of her own free will, it will have no lucky effect.

As I watched silently, Ussa, with a bright red face, lowered her head and straightened her rabbit ears with a sigh.

“Well, yeah, but… I don’t really mind, you know. If Wataru-sama really wants it, I’ll give it to you.”

“Okay, then please.”

“Wait, wait a minute. Asking for it so simply, I’m not prepared for it, the order of things is already strange… But, um… Does that mean you really like me that much?”

With an expectant expression, slender fingers fumbling together in front of her, and glistening watery blue eyes casting sidelong glances, she sent her gaze towards me.

Her rabbit ears had been twitching all this time. What’s with this feeling, it’s giving me goosebumps. It strongly hints at impending trouble.

“Ussa wait, now that I think about it, I don’t really need the ‘rabbit’s tail’ that much.”

“Eh, wait a minute! You said please just now.”

I have a very bad feeling about this.

I’ve had déjà vu with this pattern before. It’s a prelude to a troublesome situation that’s so irritating it’s not even funny.

“No, you know what, I changed my mind. Taking the tail sounds really painful. Yeah, I’ll pass.”

“Wait a moment! While it’s true that giving the tail can be a bit painful, all girls do it when they grow up. Please don’t hesitate.”

“Well, I don’t know…”

“I’ve already made up my mind. If Wataru-sama hadn’t saved me here, I would have died. I think it was my destiny to dedicate myself here.”

As she said this, Ussa lifted her long skirt and grabbed her white tail.

Her cheeks flushed and her blue eyes moistened as she bit her bottom lip firmly.

With a snap, she ripped the white fluffy tail from her ass and pressed it hard against my hand.

“I feel kinda bad about this.”

“No, not at all. With this, we, as a married couple, have made our pledge. I love you too!”

“Wait…”

“Yes! What is it, my dear?”

Ussa’s cheeks are flushed and her blue eyes sparkle. Damn it… this pattern?

I thought she’d disappear with a “Thank you,” but what does “I love you” mean?

“Ussa, I’m asking you, you’re not going to disappear after this, are you?”

“I won’t go anywhere without you, my dear. In sickness and in health. Till death do us part…”

Ussa knelt down in front of me and clasped her hands together in front of her large bosom, a prodigal smile on her ecstatic face.

The peachy atmosphere made me take a couple of steps back.

Oh no… I’ve been set up. Is this another one of GenoReal’s tricks?

I felt a strong pain in my temple area and pressed the white fluffy ball of fur I was clutching against my face.

Ah, Fluffy is soothing.

**

I’m a retro-game enthusiast, and rather nerdy, if anything.

So, the line about asking for the ‘rabbit’s tail’ being a marriage proposal sign among the Rabbitta Rabbit Tribe is something I’d laugh off as a common storyline.

It’s a common pattern in comedies about misunderstandings.

If it were someone else’s business, I would just laugh it off, but this is my reality game.

‘Traps like these are quite simple once you understand their nature. Surprisingly, traps work better when they’re simple; simplicity is what makes them effective.’

That was my line earlier.

GenoReal’s signature ‘first-time kill’.

I didn’t think it was foreshadowed like this.

I had described GenoReal’s trap as such myself, and it was too careless of me to carelessly ask for the ‘rabbit’s tail’.

I, of course, immediately explained to Ussa that there had been a misunderstanding.

But I couldn’t say that it was a misunderstanding because of the way the game had developed, and I even mentioned the name of the Rabitta Rabbits, Ussa’s race, even though I said I had no idea.

My desperate explanation doesn’t reach the wailing Ussa.

“Waaaaah, waaaaah, it’s all over, guuuuh!”

“Don’t cry, don’t scream, and don’t blow your nose with someone else’s sleeve.”

One tail of the Rabitta Rabbit tribe can be removed as an adult. It is an important thing to give to your lifelong mate.

Once it’s taken off, there’s no going back.

Ussa, whose real name is Alisdair Adelaide Alphonsina Angelique Allette Arabel Aline Diana, mistakenly plucked that precious ‘rabbit tail’ off.

It was the moment that sealed a lifetime of singlehood at such a young age.

Even though I thought the other party was an NPC, witnessing a girl in tears right in front of me, saying, “My body has been rendered unsuitable for marriage!” made me feel guilty.

What a troublesome situation this has become. Is it my fault for underestimating GenoReal?

“It’s terrible, terrible! You deceived me with lies!”

“No, I told you, I didn’t know…”

“But, Wadaru-san, ju sed purizu, ju sed purizu!”

“Just calm down and stop crying. It’s just a tail; we can figure something out. Look, we can use gum or tape or something to stick it back together.”

I explain the existence of convenient items like gum and tape that can be used for this purpose.

There should be some in the classroom, and by sticking it back on, everything can return to normal.

As I desperately tried to convince her of this, Ussa stared at me with swollen, bloodshot eyes.

“I’m going to die, please let me die!”

“Whoa, stop!”

I desperately held on to her and stopped her from jumping into a nearby pit.

It was a bit of a hassle, but I couldn’t just let her die like that. It was too unsettling.

Despite her petite appearance, Ussa struggled with incredible strength, but I held on tightly, preventing her from moving.

Finally, after a lot of fuss and tears, she calmed down. But that wasn’t the end.

It was just the beginning.

This time, Ussa began to grumble and complain, persistently following me as I started to walk away.

“Ah, Wataru-sama you’re a human, right? I heard from my grandfather that among humans, there are those who preach animal welfare on one hand while skinning and selling rabbit hides on the other. It’s terrible!”

“Who are you talking about?”

“I heard, you know. ‘Rabbit’s Tail’ can be sold at a particularly high price. Since you can’t forcibly take it, there’s rampant marriage fraud… Oh, I never thought I’d be the one to fall for it.”

“Don’t say such unpleasant things.”

I never thought I’d be turned into a marriage swindler.

I just wanted a rare item, but what a hassle.

“Please feel a bit more responsible. It’s because of you that the proud lineage of the Diana family is coming to an end!”

“Come on, Ussa, if we go to the classroom, there might be someone with tape.”

“If you mention that again, I’ll really jump and die. I’ll come back as a ghost and haunt you for life. The giving and receiving of the ‘rabbit’s tail’ is a sacred, once-in-a-lifetime marriage ceremony for the Rabbitta Rabbit Tribe!”

My suggestion to use tape to fix her ‘rabbit’s tail’ apparently constitutes blasphemy against the sacred ceremony.

Incidentally, the reason why this custom came about is that the Rabitta Rabbits were so fertile that they had orgies all the time and almost were wiped out by the overabundance.

This led to the creation of an ironclad rule that they could only breed with their one and only mate for the rest of their lives.

To disregard this ritual would be tantamount to defection from the clan. If they were to break this rule, they would say, “I’d rather die”.

“Okay, I’ll marry you.”

“Huh…”

Ussa’s face, who had been crying and screaming in despair, attempted suicide, and then threatened to haunt me if she died, now had a face that instantly went slack.

There’s no other way to describe it; she looked dumbfounded.

“I said we’re getting married. If I marry you, there shouldn’t be any complaints, right?”

“Is that really…?”

Really.

We’ve already wasted quite a bit of time here.

I don’t have the resolve to deal with the noisy and wailing Ussa, chopping her down with ‘Solitude’ and then slaying her ghost with ‘Onsatsumaru’ if it appears…

If I don’t have the resolve to go that far and move on, I have no choice but to get married.

Well, even if I say we’re getting married, it’s just words. After all, it’s just a game.

If I take her to the town and ask her to wait there until the adventure is over, there will be no trouble.

I know this line of thinking seems a bit like a marriage fraudster, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Whether I can clear this game or I die, that’s all that matters now.

“Come on, if that’s decided, let’s go. We’ll head back to town for now and try to collect as much gold and items as possible along the way. You’ll help me with that.”

“Ah, yes! That’s right, I almost forgot. We need to reestablish our position first to prevent the ‘Genesis Collapse’. Please wait for me, my dear!”

I won’t wait anymore. If you’re coming, then come along. Returning once will result in a significant loss of time, and there’s no time to stop and think.

Since I’ve decided to go back, I’ve chosen to sprint through the route we came from at the fastest speed possible.
