Ex-Husband Wants My Baby After Putting Me to Jail

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The Bates Clan Group, Different from the Past.

When Violet Don woke up the next day, she got herself ready to go to Noah Bates' company. She applied light makeup, donned a thin trench coat, and stepped out in her high heels.

As she left the house, Owen Don called her. "Is Wayne really with him? Violet, are you okay by yourself?"

Violet took a deep breath, the wind whipping her hair about as she said, "I'm fine. Bro, I'll call you if anything happens; you go on your business trip with peace of mind."

It took Owen a while to finish giving instructions before hanging up. Violet then lifted her head to look at the street, a slice of determination crossing her eyes as she hailed a cab in her heels and began heading to Bates Clan Group.

When she arrived and paid the fare, it was peak time for the office workers, and many people were coming in and out of the company building. Seeing Violet step out, they all unanimously turned their gaze toward her.

Her tall and slender figure wrapped in a gossamer trench coat fluttered in the morning breeze, and the sunlight edged her graceful form in gold.

The woman who entered the main doors had a stunning face, especially her eyes—forged like fine steel, fierce and cold. She pressed her lips tightly together, a nervous chill apparent on her pale face as she quickly approached the reception.

The receptionist, overwhelmed by her aura, took a long while to regain her composure before asking, "May I ask... who are you looking for?"

"Noah Bates."

She bluntly called out the name of Young Master Bates as if it were of no significance.

The receptionist was taken aback. "But Miss... to see President Bates, you need to make an appointment..."

Hearing this conversation, there was a whispering from behind.

"She's actually here to see Young Master Bates!"

"Shh, keep it down, look at how purposeful her strides are—she must have some backing!"

"Right! Maybe she's Young Master Bates' secret lover."

"Young Master Bates' secret lover? Isn't Miss Andrews the one he loves the most?"

At the mention of Miss Andrews, it was like a blade slashed across her heart. Violet's face grew even paler, but her laugh was more shockingly poignant. "Just report my name, and Noah Bates will arrange to see me."

The receptionist was about to ask how this lady could be so confident, so well-connected, when a voice rang out from behind.

"Hey, why are you here?"

Violet turned around, only to see Christian River, who had greeted her from his Maserati the other day. He was smiling with a twinkle in his peach blossom eyes. Noticing Violet at the reception, he greeted her, "Yo, you're here to see Old Noah, aren't you?"

Seeing that even Young Master River from the neighboring city recognized this lady, the receptionist quickly sent her upstairs. Everyone was shocked—who exactly was she to be known by Young Master River?

In fact—in the elevator, Violet turned to Christian River and thanked him, "Thank you."

"There's no need." Christian River laughed and waved his hand. "I'm also here on business with him, but you go ahead. Besides, Don Family has shares here; it's not improper for you to enter your own company."

"You've dug up quite a bit about my past, haven't you?"

Violet's voice carried a hint of mockery, teasing, but it was unclear whether she was mocking Christian or herself. "Too bad it's no longer mine in the end."

Christian River glanced at her and said, "Was it really Noah Bates who sent you to prison five years ago?"

She didn't respond, just smiled faintly.

But that smile hurt too much, like someone in the abyss with no glimmer of hope.

Christian didn't pursue the matter any further. The elevator opened on the twentieth floor, and they both stepped out, attracting the attention of people in the corridor.

Noah Bates was waiting for Christian in his office. When he saw him enter, and someone else followed, he joked—

"What the hell, now you bring a woman along for business meetings?"

However, upon seeing who was behind Christian, his expression changed instantly. "Why are you here?"

"Well, the Don Family has invested blood, sweat, and tears into Bates Clan Group. How could I not come?"

Violet was trembling, but she tried to hold back, her eyes red as she looked at Noah Bates.

The man sat in the center of his office, with a face bewitching enough to outshine anyone in the entertainment industry, and even more so for the ordinary masses. A face many women in this city yearned to wake up next to. Violet had thought herself lucky, once his wife—only to find out later that it was the saddest time of her life. Keeping vigil over a man who would never belong to you turned out to be agonizing.

Noticing the tension between them, Christian tactfully stepped aside, chuckling, "Heh... if there are still issues unresolved between you two... well then, I'll just step out..."

Before he could finish his sentence, he slipped out of the office and winked at the secretary outside, "Hey, beautiful, want to go for morning tea? Your boss won't be needing you for a while~"

The secretary happily walked out with him, without a clue as to what might unfold in the president's office.

Meanwhile, inside the office, behind the solid wood door that shut out everything else, the air in the luxuriously decorated room turned icy in an instant.

Violet stood there a long while before raising her head to look at Noah Bates. "Surprised that I came?"

Noah squinted, arching an eyebrow. "I thought you wouldn't come."

"Yeah, I thought I'd never come too."

Violet laughed, a breathtakingly beautiful laugh. "I've wanted to flee far, far away all my life, hoping never to see you again. And yet, here I am, knocking at your door. Noah Bates, I just can't be as ruthless as you."

Listening to her, Noah's temper flared, his smile scornful. "That just goes to show, Violet Don, that you are pathetic."

Violet Don, you are pathetic.

Violet didn't speak, her heart aching.

Indeed, wasn't she being pathetic?

She clenched her teeth and said to Noah Bates, "I've come to take back my son."

"He's my son too."

"No, he is only my son!"

Violet's voice rose sharply, "I raised him for five years! From the time I was incarcerated, until now!"

Five whole years of darkness, during which keeping the thought of her adorable son was the only thing that kept her from succumbing to the hellish confines of prison.

Wayne Don was her life, her Achilles' heel!

Even if Noah Bates wanted to fight her for custody, she would not give in!

Seeing Violet's resolve, Noah laughed even more joyfully. "But you can't change the fact that Wayne Don indeed shares my blood."

"Is that so..." Violet's laugh was tear-streaked. "You actually want to acknowledge this son? Young Master Bates, are you out of your mind? Didn't you hate me so much that you wanted me dead? Didn't you want only Amy Andrews to bear your children? So, now you want to snatch away the son of a murderer too?"

The son of a murderer!
