Chapter 9: Chapter 9: Joining for a Drink, Don’t Regret It Later!
Noah Bates's heart violently contracted when he heard the words. "Have the guts to say that again?" he demanded with a choked voice.
Violet Don remained silent, just looking at him with those eyes that once held so much love and now harbored equal parts hatred.
She said, "Noah Bates, you sent me to prison for five years. Five years. I've realized that whether I was innocent doesn't matter at all. What's important is that you never, not even for a moment, trusted me."
Her tone was quick and ice-cold as she spoke, treating Noah Bates as if he were an insignificant stranger. And, on a deeper level, it was as if she was desperately trying to wound him.
With a sardonic smile, Violet mocked, "Don't tell me, now you discovered our old feelings aren't resolved?"
A fracture appeared in Noah's angry eyes as he stood up sharply and grabbed Violet Don by the throat.
Under the cold gaze, his exquisite features were covered with an icy layer, as he smiled cruelly at Violet. "Who taught you to talk like this, huh?"
"Feeling empowered after getting out of prison?"
Violet was encased in coldness, gasping for air as he choked her. She managed to say, "Noah Bates, this is what you taught me yourself!"
Noah shuddered, his blood running cold.
With a frail laugh under his grip, Violet asserted, "Rest assured, just return my son to me, and I, Violet Don, will never again appear before you in this lifetime. Even if I die, not a word of my death will reach your ears."
Noah looked at her incredulously and said in pain, "What did you say?"
Violet suddenly struggled violently, throwing off Noah's hands. She fell to the ground, her knees hitting the wooden floor with a dull thud, but she remained silent, then staggered to her feet before him.
She said, "Noah Bates, you've killed all the love I had for you. What more do you want from me? I have nothing left to give, and the Don Family has already been consumed by you. Noah, I am begging you, can't you have some pity on me?"
Can't you have some pity on me?
As she spoke, those few words struck his heart like a blade, echoing the piercing pain he felt five years ago when he had seen her being pushed into a police car. Noah's pupils constricted suddenly, his voice turning hoarse, "What exactly do you want?"
"That's what I should be asking you."
As Violet lifted her head, her emotions were scattered and broken. She could never have imagined that even after escaping for five years, she was still unable to escape Noah Bates's shadow.
I loved you, thus I paid five years in prison as a price, Noah Bates, let me go, please?
With bitterness in his throat and seeing the look on Violet's face, Noah felt agitated. He tugged at his collar, trying not to look at her face as he said in a low voice, "You want your son? Fine. Come to Mago tonight and accompany a client for drinks."
Violet looked up in disbelief, her eyes widening as she glared at him. "Noah Bates, you're asking me to be a drinking companion?"
Noah sneered at her, "Isn't it for getting your child back? Can't you even do this much?"
Violet staggered back a few steps, shaking her head in disbelief, "I guess I'm just not as cruel as you…"
After those words, she suddenly smiled, tears still on her lashes, and said to Noah, "Well, since Young Master Bates has said so, how can I refuse? If a dinner companion is what it takes to get my son back, I will not hesitate unto death!"
"Just…" Violet leaned close to Noah Bates, with a sharp voice whispering and laughing by his ear, "Just make sure you don't regret it!"
Noah Bates's heart seemed to flicker with some emotion, but he couldn't grasp it, and it disappeared just like that. Looking at Violet Don in front of him, his whole being felt somewhat dazed.
Why... why upon meeting again, must it be such a scene of drawing swords and bows?
It had been five years... all love had been ground away, leaving only those desperate hatreds. How shocking would it be if they were ignited?
He should hate her. She had killed Amy Andrews and her child, yet why did she also look at him with the same eyes? Violet Don, you murderer, how dare you!
A dull pain throbbed in Noah Bates's chest. He stepped forward and fiercely grabbed Violet Don's collar, "You, such a woman, even if you personally delivered yourself to someone else's bed, I wouldn't blink an eye."
"Isn't that the truth?" Violet Don chuckled, "I experienced your cruelty five years ago, and now, none of this can hurt me anymore."
Having said that, she opened her eyes and looked at Noah Bates with a tired and numb gaze.
How much more love and hatred could this broken body endure? Noah Bates, my life is already incomplete, so I don't mind if it shatters even more thoroughly.
There were many emotions in Noah Bates's deep gaze that she couldn't understand, and she didn't want to understand them. Those eyes were like the leader of a wolf pack, locking her in their sight. Violet Don felt that she had died countless times in his eyes.
She straightened her back, her shoulders still trembling, and then she stormed out of the office.
Onlookers all looked up to see a beautiful woman, disheveled and with reddened eyes, hastily leaving the CEO's office. As she passed by them, a faint scent lingered, and her slender silhouette quickly walked away, causing everyone to speculate about her identity.
"That silhouette looks so familiar..."
"Yes, I feel like I've seen her before."
"Speaking of which, coming out like this... Could she be the CEO's new love interest?"
"Tsk tsk, but her expression seems like she just had a fight with the CEO?"
"Then she must be one of those clingy, insignificant internet celebrities, thinking she could turn into a phoenix."
"Never mind, never mind, Young Master Bates still loves Miss Andrews the most."
Violet Don quickly entered the elevator, cutting off the various chatter behind her. When the elevator reached the ground floor, and the doors opened, she saw Christian River walking in, arm in arm with Noah Bates's executive secretary.
"..." Out of courtesy, Violet Don still greeted him, "Young Master River, hello."
"You're leaving already?"
Christian River released the secretary and smiled at Violet Don, "How did the discussion go?"
"Do you think I was there to tell Noah Bates stories?"
Violet Don's tone was faint, as if it might dissipate with a breeze. As she walked out, Christian River reached out and grabbed her wrist from behind.
"What are you doing?"
Violet Don turned her head, only to see Christian River hopping out of the elevator, leaving the secretary stunned and alone inside. As the door closed, Christian River squinted and smiled at her like a blooming flower, "Miss Beauty, I'll come to see you next time, goodbye~"
After bidding farewell, Christian River immediately turned to Violet Don and said, "I've changed my mind. I was supposed to find Noah Bates, but now, why not talk to you directly?"
