Chapter 4: Something is lurking...
Jae-Hyuk woke up with a disoriented groan, his eyes adjusting to the stark surroundings of a sterile, laboratory-like room. Confused and frightened, he struggled to recall the events that had led him here. He faintly remembered being trapped in a cage, perhaps after Emon had triggered a trap, and then Emon telling a backstory. And then there was a strange, foggy presence, a pair of eerily luminescent yellow eyes, and everything faded to blackness.
As Jae-Hyuk slowly regained his bearings, his eyes were drawn to a series of tall, translucent tubes that lined the room. Inside the tubes, he could make out the forms of different animals, seemingly frozen in mid-swim within the mysterious green liquid that filled them. He watched in equal parts fascination and horror, wondering what purpose these creatures served in this strange place.
Jae-Hyuk's initial shock and confusion quickly gave way to worry and concern for his friends. He didn't know what had happened to Emon after the mysterious fog appeared, and he had no idea if the others were safe. He felt a pang of fear and responsibility for his friends' safety, realizing that he was potentially the only one who was awake.
Jae-Hyuk's heart rate sped up as he nervously scanned the room, searching for any sign of other people or creatures. After a quick, thorough observation, the realization sunk in: he was alone, There was nothing present in there except those lubes filled with the mysterious green liquid. The animals inside of them were frozen in time. The silence was deafening, broken only by the occasional hum of machinery and the sound of his own ragged breathing. He felt a chill run down his spine as he considered his predicament.
As Rim stumbled through the thick, disorienting fog, a familiar sensation washed over him. He felt a wave of dizziness, but this time, he knew what was coming. In a moment of realization, he recalled experiencing this feeling before, a long time ago. He drew upon a deep-seated knowledge and a sense of preparation, bracing himself for what lay ahead.
Rim surged forward through the fog, the adrenaline pumping in his veins. He focused all his energy on getting to the basement, pushing himself to go faster and faster. Despite the dizzying effects of the fog, he propelled himself with determination, his mind's eye picturing the basement entrance. With each moment, he closed the distance, refusing to let the disorienting mist slow him down.
As Rim finally reached the entrance to the basement, his heart pounded in his chest. He slammed the door shut behind him, quickly turning the lock with a loud click. The heavy door creaked as it closed, shutting out the disorienting fog and muffling the outside world's sounds. Rim leaned against the door, gasping for breath, his body trembling with exhaustion and adrenaline. He felt a moment of respite, isolated from the danger outside.
As Rim caught his breath, he looked down and noticed the dark stains of blood on the cage's floor. His heart skipped a beat as the realization that one of his friends may have been hurt sank in. The sight of blood sent a shiver down his spine, and he couldn't help but wonder who it might have come from. Fear gripped him as the thought of his friends being injured or worse crossed his mind.
Jae-Hyuk, feeling desperate, turned his attention to the cell he was in. He examined the walls and the door, searching for any signs of weakness or a way to get out. He tried pushing, pulling, and banging on the door, but it wouldn't budge. Frustration and panic started to build inside him as he frantically searched for a way to escape.
With a flicker of hope, Rim slowly unlocked the basement door and cautiously pushed it open. He stepped out into the foggy world, his senses on high alert. The presence of the creature that had previously been near the door seemed to have disappeared. Rim took a deep breath and started to explore the surroundings silently, keeping a watchful eye out for any signs of danger.
Rim entered a large room filled with towering bookshelves and the faint scent of old paper. As he carefully moved through the room, his eyes scanned the spines of the books, searching for something that could provide answers. Suddenly, a worn notebook caught his eye. The name "Sam Williams" was scribbled on the cover. Intrigued and hopeful, Rim carefully lifted the notebook and cautiously looked through its pages.
Rim followed the trail of blood as it led behind one of the bookshelves. His heart pounded in his chest as he anticipated what he might find. Carefully, he moved around the bookshelf and prepared himself for the sight that might await him.
Rim traced the trail of blood, expecting it to lead him somewhere, but to his surprise, it ended at a blank wall. He furrowed his brow, confused and a little alarmed. Was he missing something? Was there a hidden passage behind the wall? He leaned in closer, placing his hand on the smooth surface, trying to see or feel any sign of a secret opening.
Rim noticed that the blood trail extended further, appearing to lead beneath the wall. His mind raced as he tried to make sense of the situation. How could the blood go beneath the wall? Could there be a hidden passage of some sort? He knelt down, searching the area under the wall for a hidden hatch or anything unusual.
As Rim analyzed the situation, he realized that the key to unearthing the secret passage might be hidden among the books. He carefully reached out and started pulling at the spines of the volumes, one by one. But as he did so, the fog started to build up again, its presence growing stronger and more oppressive.
In the face of the thickening fog, Rim stood his ground, gripping a makeshift weapon - a broken wooden plant and a handful of stones from his pocket. He knew he had to stay alert and ready to fight. His thoughts drifted to Jackie, a friend who meant a lot to him. In that moment, he took a deep breath, steadying his nerves and mentally preparing himself for what lay ahead.
Rim stood defiantly in front of the approaching cloud of fog, his heart pounding in his chest but his courage unwavering. As the fog grew denser around him, he knew that the danger lurking within it was immense. Yet, despite the fear that any sensible person would feel in such a situation, Rim was not afraid. Instead, he stood tall, gripping his makeshift weapon firmly, his determination fueled by a strong will to take care of Jackie.
