Chapter 3: Disappearance
As they were trapped in the cage, Emon tried his best to lift it, but despite his efforts the cage didn't even budged, the cage was simply too heavy. Hyuk, noticing Emon's frustration, decided to lighten the mood by asking about the fight between him and Rim.
Emon sighed deeply and said, It all stated in this haunted house, Rim was always below average in physical activities and excellent in academic activities. Rim and I were best friends from the moment we were born, We played together, Ate together and did many things together.
But along with Rim, I also had another precious friend, Jackie.
Jackie was an important friend to me, She brought us cookies and played with us and read us stories. She was 3 years older than us.
Life was good back then...
But everything changed when we decided to visit the haunted mansion. I still remember that day vividly.
I was playing outside my house, Rim was watering some plants and then I started talking about the haunted mansion.
Our parents told us not to go anywhere there but I was a stubborn child and you know what they say "Curosity kills the cat." I asked Jackie if she wanted to go, She accepted.
Rim hesitated but we won him over. The mansion was 5 minutes away from our house. When we arrived, It was approximately 6:00 PM.
The air was still as the we approached the foreboding house, its decaying facade a testament to the decades of abandonment. Jackie, Me, and Rim trembled with a mixture of excitement and fear, our hearts pounding as we pushed open the creaking door. Inside, shadows danced in the dim light, shifting and skittering as if something was moving just out of sight. I swallowed nervously, gripping Jackie's hand tight. A sudden noise echoed from the darkened hallway, sending a chill down Rim's spine. "It's just the wind," Jackie whispered, but our voices seemed so loud in the empty silence.
We took a few more tentative steps forward when suddenly, a low, guttural growling emanated from the shadows in the corner of the room. I froze, eyes wide with terror as Jackie instinctively pushed me behind her. The growling grew louder, more menacing, and as we looked around, trying to locate the source, a pair of glowing eyes appeared in the darkness. Whatever was lurking in the shadows, it was big, and it was getting closer.
We didn't waste a second, adrenaline coursing through our veins as we turned around and sprinted for the door. The guttural growls grew louder as whatever was chasing them picked up speed. As we reached near the exit, a thick, eerie fog began to envelop the area, making it difficult to see more than a few feet ahead. We didn't dare look back, the sounds of pursuit growing ever closer.
I started feeling dizzy, Almost like the adrenaline started wearing off. I didn't looked back and ran outside the mansion, Rim was just behind me but Jackie...
Well, She never came back. It was almost as if the shadows swallowed her whole.
We were scared, Beyond scared.
We didn't looked back and Jackie's disappearance was last of our concern, We just fleed from there.
My parents asked me where was I this late and I told them everything but I changed some details.
Soon Jackie's parent called the cops, A search warrant was passed. Missing posters were printed throughout the town. The cops questioned us but...
I never spoke about the haunted house, I just said that it happened in the forest nearby our house when we were playing. I was just so scared.
Rim said the same thing. Thinking about that thing that chased us still gives me chill.
Few days ago, Rim suggested that we should tell Jackie's parents but 6 years has passed since that incident...
I don't think revealing the truth will heal Jackie's parent.
It will just hurt them even more.
They will never forgive us, Forgiving will be the last thing on their mind.
That was the reason why me and rim were arguing but the argument got out of control and I pushed him.
In the end, We decided to investigate the source of Jackie's disappearance.
While emon was explaining all of this, I noticed that the atmosphere was getting blurrier. I was about to alert emon but then I realised that he already noticed the change in the environment. He started shaking, We were on our gaurd but something menacing was getting closer, We saw a pair of yellow shining eyes.
Emon fell on his knees. He started screaming "No, Don't get any closer." What was happening in the surrounding sent chills down my spine, The air felt funny and I started feeling dizzy.
I noticed that emon collapsed on the ground and whatever that thing was like 2 feet away from us.
The fog was just too much for my eyes, I had -5 eyesight so the blurred world that I was used to got even blurrier.
Many thoughts were rushing in my head but I felt a strange calm and then I too also collapsed on the ground.
David and Luis were patrolling the hallway when they heard a faint sound from the basement. Their attention was immediately drawn, and they cautiously made their way towards the source of the noise. The sound was odd, almost metallic, and it echoed up to where they were standing.
The two men shared a look, knowing they had to investigate. Their senses had warned them about strange noises coming from the basement, and they couldn't afford to ignore them.
"Stay alert," David whispered to Luis. "Whatever it is, we have to be ready."
David and Luis cautiously pushed open the creaking basement door and coughed as a strange, thick fog enveloped them. The air was damp and musty, and a faint, otherworldly light filtered through the haze. They could barely make out the outline of boxes and old furniture, but the fog made it difficult to see further.
They stood in the entrance to the basement, taking in the eerie air present in that atmosphere, but the strange fog and the metallic clanking sound piqued their curiosity.
They too started feeling dizzy, Almost as if the fog was meant to be sinister....
