Chapter 37: Conflict Between Martial Arts Halls
"I am Jiang Lei, master of the Eagle Martial Hall. Thank you, young man, for saving our lives," the middle-aged man said, pausing in awe as he took in the sight of Lin Langtian, who had struck down the two Leopard-Croc Kings with a single blow. He quickly stepped forward and clasped his hands in gratitude.
With the Leopard-Croc Kings dead, the remaining beasts scattered in terror. Within minutes, the area was cleared of all the creatures, each fleeing for its life. The members of the Eagle Martial Hall looked at the young man in blue before them, astonished.
Was it possible for someone so young to possess the strength to kill Qi Formation beasts in an instant? Could this young man be one of the top prodigies of the Great Yan Dynasty?
Lin Langtian leaped down from the body of one of the fallen beasts with a slight smile. "No need for thanks, brother. I am Lin Tian. I lost my way in this forest; might I trouble you to guide me out?" he asked.
The name Lin Langtian was too well-known, and he preferred to keep a low profile on this journey, so he decided to use an alias. He also vaguely recognized this group; they seemed to have connections with Lin Dong in the original timeline and appeared to be good-natured, which was why Lin Langtian had chosen to help them.
"You saved our lives, so of course, we'll help you!" A beautiful young woman holding a small girl's hand approached, her gaze lingering briefly on Lin Langtian before she flashed him a friendly smile.
"Big brother, someone as amazing as you couldn't possibly get lost," the little girl by her side said in a whisper, her doll-like face filled with admiration.
Lin Langtian paused, slightly embarrassed; this Misty Forest was indeed unfamiliar, and even his spiritual power had been blocked, making it difficult to navigate.
The young woman, amused, glanced at the little girl and whispered, "Yinyin, hush now. This gentleman is from out of town. It's perfectly normal to lose one's way here."
The middle-aged man gave an apologetic smile, bowing slightly to Lin Langtian. "This is my elder daughter, Jiang Xue, and my younger daughter, Jiang Yinyin. Yinyin is young and means no harm; I hope you'll forgive her, and as for guiding you, it would be our pleasure."
"Thank you, brother Jiang. Just call me Lin Tian," replied Lin Langtian with a smile. Relieved to have a guide out of this confusing forest, he followed the group.
With a reliable guide, Lin Langtian relaxed, content to follow the main group as they slowly made their way out of the forest. He sat in the most comfortable carriage of the caravan, unfazed by the amazed stares of the other martial hall members. He had grown accustomed to such gazes back in the Lin family.
"Big brother, you were so cool when you took down that Leopard-Croc King! You're really strong and really handsome, not like those useless guys in the martial hall." Yinyin gazed at him with big, starry eyes full of adoration.
Lin Langtian chuckled, ruffling her hair. "You've already told me that several times now."
"Yinyin, don't bother him while he's resting," chided Jiang Xue softly, walking gracefully over to join them. She tapped Yinyin on the head with a gentle scolding tone.
Lin Langtian glanced up and met Jiang Xue's gaze. Her face, framed by slightly tousled hair from the day's battles, bore traces of bloodstains on her skin. Yet instead of looking disheveled, the small imperfections added a unique charm to her beauty.
Perhaps because he had saved the Eagle Martial Hall, Jiang Xue's usually reserved expression was warmer, with a gentle look in her eyes as she gazed at him. Her understated appearance gave her an elegance all her own, though she lacked the overwhelming beauty of a figure like Ying Qingzhu.
Their eyes met briefly. Jiang Xue's face flushed slightly before she quickly averted her gaze, taking a small step back.
"Lin Tian, we'll be out of this forest in a day," called Jiang Lei, who had ridden over to Lin Langtian's carriage, his face relaxed and smiling.
The day passed quickly, and as the warm sunlight finally broke through the mist, washing over the weary faces of the Eagle Martial Hall members, they cheered in relief, grateful to have made it through.
Standing atop his carriage, Lin Langtian enjoyed the sunlight on his face, a slight smile gracing his lips as he looked out in the distance. The Great Wilderness County—he'd finally arrived.
"Lin Tian, you should come with us to Great Eagle City. You're new here, so it'd be wise to rest there before you go on your way," suggested Jiang Lei as he rode alongside the caravan.
Lin Langtian thought for a moment and then nodded. His main purpose was to capture the spirit of the ancient Dragon Ape, which was unlikely to move from its location. Better to take some time to rest and prepare.
Seeing Lin Langtian's agreement, Jiang Lei smiled broadly, instructing the group to rest briefly before they continued their journey toward Great Eagle City.
Great Eagle City was situated in the northeast of Great Wilderness County, close to the border. Despite this, the city was quite prosperous. Although it could not compare to Lin City, it was still considered an important city within the Great Yan Dynasty.
As the caravan approached the city in the late afternoon, Lin Langtian gazed at the towering walls, nodding approvingly at the sight. Slowly, they made their way into the city.
Just as they reached the central part of the city, however, Lin Langtian noticed the caravan slowing. Looking up, he saw another group approaching from the opposite direction.
The people in this new group wore badges on their chests with the emblem of a blood-red vulture stitched onto them.
"The Blood Vulture Martial Hall…" Jiang Lei muttered darkly at the sight of the newcomers, his face turning grim.
"Well, well, look who made it out of the Misty Forest," sneered a thin, gaunt man on horseback, leading the Blood Vulture group. His clothes were simple, his eyes sunken and cold, but he had a mocking smile on his face as he looked at Jiang Lei's caravan.
Lin Langtian's brow furrowed as he took in the tense standoff between the two martial halls. It seemed wherever he went, trouble followed. Was he somehow destined to be caught in these conflicts?
