Chapter 36: Chapter 36: The Rescue
Chapter 36: The Rescue
"What on earth is this place?" Lin Langtian found himself in a dense, primordial forest, shrouded in a thick, milky white mist. The fog was incredibly strange, making it difficult even for his spiritual power to penetrate. Above, an icy chill filled the air, a coldness so intense that even someone of Lin Langtian's strength felt it.
For two days now, he'd been wandering around aimlessly within the mist-laden forest. Rubbing his temples, Lin Langtian pulled a map from his storage bag, studying it closely. "So, this is the Misty Forest—a mysterious stretch of woods along the edge of the Great Desolation County. No wonder I couldn't find a way out," he muttered to himself.
Shaking his head with a sigh, Lin Langtian chose a direction that seemed promising and continued deeper into the forest.
In a clearing enveloped by thick fog, a group of dozens huddled together tightly. Around them, vicious beasts with foul stench and menacing fangs lunged from the shadows. Each beast was quickly met with a combined assault of powerful Yuan energy, their bodies torn into pieces by the group's concentrated attacks.
"These damned beasts are relentless! When will this end, Master?" one man spat, wiping blood from his face after killing yet another beast with a single sword stroke.
"Focus! We'll get out of here soon enough," replied the group's leader, a brawny middle-aged man wielding a hefty black sword. His presence radiated strength, and he steadily cut down the charging beasts one after another, showing no sign of faltering. His cultivation level was already at the early Qi Formation stage, making him the most powerful among them.
"Go, Daddy!" cheered a young girl of about twelve or thirteen in a soft pink dress, clapping her hands as she watched the man fight bravely. Her youthful voice was both tender and innocent.
"Yinyin, stay back!" called out a tall, slender young woman standing nearby, quickly pulling the girl behind her. The woman's figure was curvy and graceful, her fitted attire accentuating her elegant shape.
"Oh, okay." The girl, Yinyin, replied with a small pout, hiding behind the woman. Her big, curious eyes peeked out, watching the battle unfold.
But although the group was strong, the number of beasts surrounding them continued to grow by the minute. Within only ten minutes, over a hundred beasts had gathered, and their numbers showed no sign of slowing.
Meanwhile, in the branches of a tall tree nearby, Lin Langtian observed the battle below. Hidden within the leaves, he watched silently as the group struggled against the onslaught.
As he noted the overwhelming number of beasts, Lin Langtian couldn't help but feel surprised. "With so many beasts here, there must be a beast king leading them," he thought.
His suspicion was shared by the group's leader, whose expression grew increasingly tense. Then, suddenly, the ground began to shake, and two powerful auras emerged from the mist.
"The Mist Leopard-Croc Kings!" someone in the group gasped as they sensed the two menacing auras. Even the middle-aged leader's face turned grim at the realization.
Two massive shadows slowly took shape in the fog, finally emerging into the glow of the torches to reveal two enormous, terrifying beasts.
"Mist Leopard-Croc Kings—two beasts at the Qi Formation stage," Lin Langtian noted with a slight frown. This situation had just turned deadly for the group below.
With a thunderous roar, the Leopard-Croc Kings signaled the other beasts to attack. As the roar echoed, the eyes of the hundreds of beasts glowed a ferocious red. Their hooves pounded the earth, and the entire ground trembled as they charged towards the group in a deadly tide.
"Kill!" The fighters' eyes filled with determination. They were out of options—retreat was impossible. Their only hope was to fight to the end, betting everything on a chance for survival.
The clash began with a brutal melee.
The clang of metal and piercing roars filled the air as waves of Yuan energy exploded against the beasts. The team's fierce counterattack temporarily slowed the Leopard-Croc Kings' advance.
"Roar!" the two Leopard-Croc Kings howled angrily. Their massive bodies radiated dark-red energy as they dug in their claws and charged again, like tanks barreling down on the middle-aged leader.
With his back to the defensive formation, the leader had no option to retreat. Bracing himself, he thrust his heavy sword into the ground, channeling all his Yuan power into a desperate attempt to block the beasts' assault.
Boom!
The collision was immediate. The two colossal beasts slammed into the sword with all their weight, releasing a shockwave that splintered the ground in a spiderweb of cracks.
The leader staggered back, a muffled groan escaping his lips. It took him ten full steps to steady himself, but that one blow had left him visibly weakened.
"Dad!" screamed Yinyin, her voice full of fear, echoed by the alarmed cries of the tall woman. But before they could run to his side, the mass of beasts broke through the formation, closing in on the group from all sides.
The situation grew more dire by the second. The faces of everyone in the group grew pale with despair; trapped between the two Leopard-Croc Kings and a horde of savage beasts, their survival seemed all but impossible.
But just as the group prepared for what they thought would be their last stand, a loud explosion suddenly resounded in the clearing.
Boom!
As dirt and debris filled the air, the group heard two enraged roars. Their eyes darted to the source of the sound, and they gasped in shock.
Both Leopard-Croc Kings, which had seemed invincible just moments before, were sent hurtling back through the air as if struck by a meteor. They tumbled back dozens of meters, finally slamming against a nearby cliff, gravely wounded.
And standing above the battered beasts, a lone figure slowly descended.
In the dim light of the clearing, the group stared in awe at the figure's elegant silhouette. He appeared like a hero from legend, descending from the heavens to save them.
