Wizard Lord:I can Extract Anything

Chapter 107: Chapter 107: The Wizard Laboratory

Due to geological changes, the exterior of the wizard laboratory was covered with soil and vegetation, but the slight fluctuations of magic inside didn't escape Richard's notice.

Upon reaching the hillside, Richard immediately sensed a swift magical fluctuation as he landed.

Hiss, hiss, hiss...

A faint rustling sound emerged from the ground as a thin, metallic vine shot up, quickly wrapping around Richard's legs.

Richard glanced at the surrounding vegetation, noticing animal bones peeking through the sparse foliage.

"This thing is interesting."

Richard grabbed the vine, which was covered in metallic thorns. For an ordinary person, holding it would surely puncture their hand.

But Richard wasn't ordinary.

As a wizard, these vines were no more formidable than roadside weeds to him.

With a little effort, Richard snapped the metallic vine.

"The roots are quite deep," Richard mused, tearing off the vine that was tightening around his legs before using a spell to dig into the soil.

Sensing danger, the metallic vines began retracting, but Richard caught them in his grasp.

It was too late to flee.

With the help of his spell, Richard quickly uncovered several tangled, strange roots.

All the vines grew from these roots.

Richard unearthed them, noting their metallic sheen, yet they squirmed like living creatures in his hand. He placed them in a crystal box and applied a rune chain sealing spell.

This would make a great research subject.

Using a spell, Richard blasted away the earth from the lab's entrance, revealing a dark hole.

Before he could enter, a red eye illuminated the darkness within.

"Intruder detected. Initiating expulsion protocol."

An alchemical golem resembling a stone giant emerged, its surface covered in moss and shedding dirt as it moved.

"An alchemical golem, a good find."

Richard's eyes lit up at the sight. Alchemical golem armies were the Alchemy School's most famous asset during wizard wars. Though modern iterations were smaller, more agile, and made of alchemical alloys rather than enchanted stones, older models weren't useless.

Alchemical golems could be equipped with various alchemical weapons, and if modified correctly, one could serve as a battlefield turret.

The golem didn't attack Richard immediately, instead repeating, "Leave now." Richard ignored its warnings, his body swelling into a towering black-armored giant.

Such a valuable find—Richard couldn't use high-power spells like Heart of Annihilation.

After enduring many years, the golem's power source was likely depleted. If Richard could exhaust its magic, he could acquire a complete golem.

Recognizing Richard's transformation, the golem's eyes glowed brightly, ceasing its repeated warnings.

"Intruder detected. Initiating termination protocol!"

Buzz!

A magical beam shot toward Richard as the golem charged forward.

A magical barrier flickered over Richard, absorbing the beam completely before he collided with the golem.

The golem's strength was immense, akin to a wild rhinoceros, and Richard was involuntarily pushed back upon contact.

Simultaneously, runes flashed on the golem's fist, transforming it into a fiery molten punch.

Bang bang bang!

In an instant, Richard and the golem exchanged three blows, the acrid smell of scorched flesh filling the air.

Yet, despite being at a disadvantage, Richard's expression remained fearless, even smiling slightly.

"That's enough."

With those words, the once-energetic golem halted abruptly, the light in its crystalline eyes fading.

After years of leakage, the golem's magic was nearly depleted. It might have been enough to repel a few wizard apprentices, but for a wizard, that amount of magic was insufficient.

As his fists healed, Richard approached the golem and drew a magic circle on the ground.

Infusing it with magic, a spatial rift formed above the circle.

Richard dragged the golem into the secret realm, where several Holy Tree Spirits immediately gathered around.

Over decades, the number of Holy Tree Spirits had grown to thirty-two, with the original spirit, Tuft, leading the pack.

The secret realm had transformed into a sea of flowers, vibrant blooms covering the landscape, while Richard's medicinal field remained a small patch.

"Boss, boss, what's this?"

Ignoring the little ones, Richard warned them to leave the golem alone and exited the secret realm.

Returning to the wizard world, Richard released Ulysses from the magic pouch.

No sooner had Ulysses emerged than it began squawking at Richard:

"Caw caw! I warn you, boy, don't stuff the great Lord of Ravens into that small pouch again! While I'm your servant, even a servant has dignity!"

Richard paid no mind to the protest, pointing casually at the entrance.

"Go scout ahead."

"Caw! Are you listening to me?"

Richard waved dismissively, "Just go."

"Caw!"

Ulysses circled twice in the air before diving into the lab's entrance.

After about ten minutes, Ulysses emerged from the hole.

"Caw, no problem. Everything inside is devoid of magic."

With Ulysses's assurance, Richard floated into the passage cautiously.

The tunnel was dark, with slippery moss everywhere. Though it bore traces of enchantment, years had rendered them ineffective, and spring water seeped through cracks in the walls.

The tunnel led directly into the mountain's heart. After flying for a few minutes, Richard arrived in a spacious room.

With a snap of his fingers, a ball of white light appeared, illuminating the chamber.

This was a reception room, with a skeleton draped in a wizard's robe in the corner.

Richard inspected it, confirming it belonged to an apprentice. The apprentice who had discovered the lab likely saw this skeleton in their haste, believing the wizard dead.

Following the passage from the reception room, Richard entered a larger chamber.

This was the laboratory.

Under the light, Richard spotted another skeleton, this one also cloaked in wizard robes.

But this time, it wasn't an apprentice.

Approaching the remains, Richard noted the bones' black-grey hue and slight metallic sheen. As he touched them, the Miracle Furnace delivered a message.

[Material: Unknown Wizard's Corpse]

[Extractable Material: Steel of Secrets]

[Extraction Cost: 20,000 Mana]

"Steel of Secrets!" Richard's heart raced. Known as a top-tier alchemical material alongside mithril and adamantine, its balanced properties made it excellent for crafting high-quality alchemical golem components.

Without hesitation, Richard chose to extract it.

This extraction was different. As his mana drained, his body absorbed more mana. He pulled several magic stones from his pouch, consuming them with his flesh.

Guided by his mental strength, the magic stones' power replenished Richard's body, fueling the Miracle Furnace.

After half a minute, the magic absorption completed, and the Miracle Furnace began its process.

The skeleton before Richard vanished, prompting Ulysses on his shoulder to exclaim.

"Caw! You're incredibly lucky. Such a treasure, typically only held by a god-king, is usable by a mere legend like you."

Richard replied calmly, "I remember ordering you not to reveal anything about it to the outside world."

"Caw, but it's just us here."

The extraction complete, a kilogram of Steel of Secrets materialized in Richard's hand.

Though small, this piece was worth 400,000 magic stones on the market, and it was in high demand. Many wizards specializing in alchemical machinery needed just such a piece to complete their work.

After extracting the Steel of Secrets, Richard continued searching the lab for various experimental equipment and biological specimens, inspecting each one.

Most equipment had degraded without magic, turning to waste over time, but some items retained value.

[Material: Unknown Wizard's Scalpel]

[Extractable Skill: Unknown Wizard's Dissection Technique]

[Extraction Cost: 10 Mental Strength]

Seeing the enchanted scalpel, Richard pocketed it without hesitation.

Besides the scalpel, Richard found a notebook written in cipher, detailing techniques for metallizing biological modifications.

Jolord knew these techniques, but after extraction, Richard found this unknown wizard's methods differed significantly, making it valuable knowledge for exchanging with alchemy wizards focused on synthetic beasts.

Having scoured the lab, Richard continued exploring the tunnels.

A wizard's lab typically included a storage room and a study.

After a while, Richard found the study. Unfortunately, the passage of unknown years had rendered its protections useless, reducing the books within to dust.

Despite searching for a while, Richard found nothing but dust.

"With the study in this state, the storeroom probably isn't any better," Richard muttered, brushing off the dust before heading to the storeroom.

As expected, the storeroom's specimens and materials had also perished with the protective measures, either destroyed or fragmented. Geological shifts had even partially buried the storeroom under the mountain.

Seeing this, Richard was about to turn away when something caught his eye.

"Is that... a chip?"
