Chapter 7: CHAPTER 6
''Look, you can go ahead and check my call details. I didn't break any law. My daughter called me herself,'' Triyast explained to the officer who was sitting across from him. He was in the interrogation room with officer Parker, a tall fair skinned man with a clean shaven face and hazel eyes.
''We are doing that, you can be rest assured that our officers are definitely looking into it, but there was a complaint made against you...''
''Sir.. that's what I'm telling you...'' They were interrupted by a soft knock on the door. Officer Parker opened the door to see a female officer. Triyast sat there on a chair mumbling something about his luck as he saw both cops whispering something and then his black haired interrogating officer stepped outside, closing the door behind him.
He had been sitting outside looking at the sunset when his phone had rang. Picking it up, he didn't expect to hear his daughters voice, since he had given up so many years ago. A hope was there that she might call him, but slowly as time went by, that hope had begun to fade away, like the colour of a cloth hanging under the sun for so long, yet there it was. He knew by the silence.
He recalled everything they had spoke about..... everything!
''Hello?''
Silence. He could hear someone breathing but not answering, so at that moment he just knew it had to be her. His fatherly instincts began to kick in. He had to make sure. ''Trin, is that you?''
''Daddy.'' That voice he had so earnestly waited to hear. He had longed to receive this call. It was her; finally.
''Princess, how are you?''
''Daddy, I am good... how are you?'' Her sobs were evident that she was lying, but Triyast didn't push it, not yet.
''I...I don't know what to say. I just miss you so much.'' She was now crying out loud. Her father immediately knew what was happening, the reason she had called.
''I miss you too honey. You know I love you and will always be here for you, right?''
''Why … why didn't you ever call me, or come to meet me?''
''I couldn't even when I wanted to, because when your mother and I divorced, I had challenged her that one day you'd call me yourself, and your mom made me sign a contract that if I call you first, I'd loose all parental rights on you, and go to jail for all my life, even when you turned 21 years old, I would still be unable to meet you, until you called me 1st. That's why I told you that I would only be a phone call away if you need me.''
''About that, remember you said that I'd feel lonely.. like ….you know... umm...like...''
''Somethings missing?'' He helped her complete her sentence.
''Yeah... I'm feeling like that.''
''Then it's time to meet.''
''Meet? But where?''
''The Upside Down Garden... its closer to your home and it'll be a great place to catch up. What do you think?''
''I think that's a great idea. I can come at around 10?'' Trinity said, excitement evident in her voice this time.
''I'll be there.''
''Daddy, I gotta go. I'll see you tomorrow, bye.. oh um.. I love you too.''
''Bye sweet pea.'' How over the moon was he...
''Mr. Grove? Are you with me?''
He got back to reality as he heard fingers flick in front of his face. He took in a hurried breath as he shook his head, ''Yeah, I'm sorry, I was just thinking about something. What were you saying?''
***
''You did it!''
Trinity was shaking with anger, her eyes were red and swollen from crying. No words could describe what she felt. After all these years, when she had thought her mother had finally come around to understanding her feelings, she heard her confessing on the phone that she had sent the man she had so long wanted to meet to jail, just because she wanted to. ''Why?''
''Rin honey,...'' Dorin was so shocked that she couldn't say anything more.
''I asked you why'd you do that?'' Trinity was slowly moving forward. Something about her seemed different, almost alien. She was talking really slowly, not like the usual way she would have screamed for an explanation. Her tears had long dried, but her eyes looked like a lions eyes stalking its prey. The atmosphere in the room had changed from a cool air conditioned place to an area that had seemed like it was steadily catching fire. It was getting hot.
''Rin...?''
''I just wanted to talk with him, nothing more. Then... why? Why couldn't you just let me do that?'' Trinity's voice was changing from soft to a heavy and gruffy one. Her once brown eyes were changing to redish orange, her once round pupils getting into slits, like a cats eyes. She was not moving her eyes away from the blonde woman in front of her. This wasn't Trinity Grove, this was someone else, something else.
Dorin was frozen in shock. She was instinctively moving backwards, stumbling on the coffee table. She managed to control her fall, still moving backwards. ''Rin, lets just talk about it...''
Trinity felt her body heating up, almost boiling. Her lungs felt like they were on fire, anger fueling her rage. The more she looked at the woman in front of her, the more she felt irritated. Her head felt heavy and her body felt like it was breaking apart, like something was twisting her insides and her bones were cracking. Trinity felt like something else was trying to break free and she wanted it to be free. She didn't have any control over it. The only question in her mind was 'Why?'.
Curtains and furniture were bursting into flames. Derek and Patrick, sensing the heat had also entered the living room and were shouting at Trinity to stop, but she wasn't paying attention to them, they were not the ones she wanted. Her eyes were on her prey and this time she was going for the kill.
Dorin realized her mistake. She shouldn't have kept her daughter caged up, but now it was too late. Was whatever Triyast once said to her correct? She hadn't believed him back then, but now she did. She didn't know what to do, she had to somehow calm Trinity down, but how? ''You're not going to kill your own mother, are you?'' Her question caught Trinity's attention.
''Mother? You're my mother? What do you know about parenting? Giving birth to a child and throwing her into the arms of a nanny even when she was dying doesn't make a person a mother. Martha had been more of a mother to me than you ever will,'' Her voice was getting louder and angrier. Scales were showing on her body, like a fish. Her teeth were changing and fingernails were growing into talons, like that of an eagle. Her whole body was surrounded by fire.
Trinitys' whole body was trembling, as she still made her way towards her mother. Her face was also changing, much to the horror of the people who were standing there. Derek was shaking with fright, while Patrick didn't know what to do, should he comfort his son, or should he go to rescue his wife. By now it was quite obvious that Trinity; or whatever that thing was, was only after Dorin.
Looking more like a snake, her face had become like that of an anaconda, but bigger, and her teeth were growing into fangs. Her face also grew horns, and a very thin mustache.
''Is that a ….DRAGON?'' Derek almost shouted. Everyone was shocked, as they saw her reach her mother.
''TRIN,HONEY, YOU HAVE TO STOP!!!'' Shouted a familiar voice. ''Princess, I know what you feel, but you have to stop.'' The calming melodious voice of her father seemed to cool her anger, as her body began to take shape of her normal self again. Gone were the scales, talons and fangs.
As the became her normal human self, she fell, as weakness wrapped its arms around her. ''What's wrong with me?'' She asked her father, as he caught her mid fall, before letting the darkness engulf her.
