Vampire Secret Agreement

Chapter 12: 12. Cooking Challenge

The presence of Emilio and Daffin made Odel fall silent. She knew the question she wanted to ask wouldn't be answered with her two other fiancés around.

"You're here? " I thought you were still asleep," Clayton said, continuing his steps.

"And let you two be alone without us? " Not a chance!" Daffin responded, clearly annoyed.

"I was exhausted earlier, but a quick nap helped. What did you buy? Groceries, right? " I'm starving," Emilio chimed in.

"Yeah, I bought a lot of ingredients, but… who's going to cook?" Clayton asked, glancing at the other two vampires.

"You can't," Daffin replied bluntly.

"Neither can I, but I think you once claimed you'd cook," Emilio said with a smirk.

"I don't mind cooking, but are you sure you want to eat it?" Clayton asked, his tone laced with doubt.

"You're right; I'd rather not choke," Daffin muttered.

The three vampires turned their gazes to Odel, grinning mischievously.

"Can you cook?" they asked in unison, grinning.

"I can, but I'll only cook for myself," Odel replied, walking past her three fiancés blocking her way.

"Fine, then we'll just buy something," Emilio said, trying to take the easy way out.

Odel turned back, crossing her arms as she studied the trio.

"No takeout allowed! " You have to cook something yourself. " I'll be the judge, and whoever makes the best dish gets a one-on-one movie date with me!" Odel declared with a sigh, then left the room, leaving the three vampires standing there stunned.

"Hey, did you hear that?" Emilio said, grinning.

"I'm not deaf, and this time, I'll beat you, Emilio!" Daffin exclaimed.

"I'm the only one who'll win a date with Odel, so step aside," Clayton said confidently as he quickened his pace to catch up with Odel.

Once they were home, the three vampires immediately began preparing their strategies. Each went to the kitchen and rummaged through the groceries, looking as serious as if they were planning a battle. However, as vampires with limited knowledge of human cuisine, their understanding of ingredients and cooking techniques was laughable. They picked items at random, having no idea how to properly use them.

Clayton decided to make a "special omelet" using eggs, onions, and... strawberries. To add "extra flavor," he doused it with oyster sauce.

Daffin, determined to stand out, grabbed canned sardines, bananas, and cheese, intending to create a "sardine pizza." None of the ingredients remotely resembled what humans would consider pizza-worthy.

Meanwhile, Emilio opted to make soup. Confidently, he tossed broccoli, sweetened condensed milk, and chunks of raw meat into a pot, believing the combination would yield something "unique."

The kitchen descended into chaos. Pots clanged, strange smells filled the air, and Emilio narrowly avoided losing his eyebrows to a sudden burst of flame. From the living room, Odel peeked in and shook her head, watching the three vampires behave like children playing at cooking.

"What is that—soup or poison?" Daffin asked, wrinkling his nose as the smell wafted over from Emilio's pot.

"Shut up and focus on your dish. " I'm sure it's worse than mine," Emilio shot back, stirring his suspicious-looking concoction.

Clayton, meanwhile, was struggling to flip his omelet, which had already fallen apart. "I'm the best at this," he muttered, attempting to salvage his dignity.

After turning the kitchen into a smoky mess, the three vampires finally deemed their dishes "perfect" and brought them to the dining table. Odel sat in the middle, taking a deep breath, ready to taste whatever creations they had managed to produce.

"Before I try these, I need to ask—did anyone put dish soap or air freshener in their cooking?" Odel quipped sarcastically.

"Hey, if humans eat scented foods, I could sprinkle some on top if you'd like," Emilio replied with complete sincerity.

Hearing this, Odel and the other two fiancés stared at the naïve vampire and sighed heavily.

"I never realized how dumb he could be," Clayton whispered to Daffin.

"Yeah, only lemon-scented dish soap could be used as a topping," Daffin replied, proving he was no better.

"Oh, my goodness! " I'm embarrassed to be born into the Doyle family," Clayton groaned, holding his head in despair.

With a bit of hesitation, Odel began tasting each dish, starting with Clayton's. She took a small piece of the omelet, placed it in her mouth, and started chewing. The mix of strawberry and oyster sauce made her grimace.

"Clayton, this is… unique. " But I'm pretty sure this isn't human food," Odel said, immediately spitting it out and drinking water to wash away the taste.

Daffin and Emilio exchanged glances, barely holding in their laughter. It was obvious Clayton's dish wouldn't pass.

Next, Odel turned her attention to Daffin's plate, which held a burnt pizza with bizarre toppings.

"What is this?" Odel asked, hoping to find at least one rational ingredient.

"Sardines. " They're a type of sea fish, right?" Daffin replied confidently.

"Yes, but they're not supposed to be cooked together like that. " This is a disaster!" Odel exclaimed, refusing even to taste it.

Now it was Clayton's turn to smirk at Daffin, feeling a bit of satisfaction that at least his dish had been tasted.

Finally, Odel moved on to Emilio's soup. As soon as she caught a whiff of it, she quickly pulled back.

"Is this a magic potion? " Will I turn into a frog if I drink it?" Odel asked, her tone filled with disbelief.

Hearing her comment, Clayton and Daffin burst out laughing. It was clear none of the dishes presented were edible. Emilio just grinned sheepishly, not even wanting to smell his own creation because it was, indeed, revolting.

"None of your cooking is acceptable. " How foolish of me to expect a decent meal!" Odel grumbled.

"Then what now? " Who will you take on a date?" Daffin asked.

"Don't even dream about it! No one wins! " Don't argue—I'm starving! " Forget it, I'll cook for myself," Odel declared, standing up and heading to the kitchen.

The three vampires exchanged glances before saying in unison, "Can we help?"

"No! " If you help, the kitchen might explode," Odel retorted, holding up a spatula like a weapon.

Moments later, the smell of Odel's cooking began wafting through the house. She prepared a simple meal of spaghetti with roasted chicken and fresh salad.

"It smells amazing! " Now I'm starving," Emilio said, sniffing the air.

"Odel! You made plenty, right? " Did you make some for me too, darling?" Daffin asked, peeking into the kitchen.

Not just those two, even Clayton seemed hopeful. He was already seated at the dining table with an empty plate and cutlery neatly arranged, looking as eager as a child waiting for his mother's meal.

Odel emerged with enough food for everyone and set it on the table.

"Now this is human food," Odel said with pride.

"Wow, a feast! " Yes, we eat human food too!" Emilio exclaimed.

"But it's incomplete! " I'll prepare dessert," Clayton said, quickly returning with a large bottle of blood juice and three wine glasses.

"Oh no! " Blood does not belong on the dining table, Clayton!" Odel protested.

The man merely smiled and winked at her.

"Just for today. " Come on!" he coaxed.

"Fine, whatever. " Just don't forget to lock the door," Odel relented before finally sitting down to enjoy her meal.

The four of them ate heartily, sharing the table like a family. Even Clayton, who was usually aloof, revealed a rare smile. It was a warmth Odel hadn't felt before—a sense of family. Having been born an orphan, Odel rarely experienced such togetherness, except with the other children at the orphanage, who came and went.

Odel observed her three fiancés. On the surface, none of them were unattractive. Visually, they were perfect. But they were vampires—a reality that made Odel's head spin whenever she thought about it.

"What's on your mind, darling?" Daffin asked.

Odel put down her spoon and looked directly at her three vampire fiancés.

"If I reject my destiny to be your partner, will you kill me?" Odel asked boldly.

The three vampires stopped eating, taken aback by Odel's question. None of them responded immediately; they simply stared at her, as if trying to understand what the girl truly wanted.

"Be honest with me. Would you kill me? And if I accept my destiny, what will happen? " Will I become a vampire like you guys, thirsting for blood?" Odel asked seriously.
