Chapter 235: Ancient One

It took Daisy quite a while to adapt to this intense pressure; she could retrieve her frequency perception, but not her mental energy. Every moment she could feel the pressure inside her brain, though it was not as clear as with her frequency perception.

Fatty Wong quickly served tea to both, but Daisy did not touch hers, waiting for the Ancient One to speak.

"May I call you Daisy? I am quite old; you surely wouldn't mind."

Daisy nodded slightly, apologizing for her earlier rudeness.

"Daisy, do you understand the mysterious nature of time?" the Ancient One asked leisurely.

This time without any intention to talk nonsense, she thought seriously, "Einstein's theory of relativity suggests that time is not absolute. It changes based on the different relative speeds and different structures of the observer, which means that different observation points also lead to different results."

Daisy searched her knowledge and continued slowly, "Gravity distorts time. When we are near a mass as large as a black hole, time moves much slower compared to the outside world."

Fatty Wong, who hadn't left and stood behind the Ancient One with his hands behind his back, was confused. What are you talking about? This has nothing to do with our magic, right?

The Ancient One nodded, proving these theories were correct, "Einstein was a great man, I have met him. His wisdom is admirable."

She continued, "Do you know about the mutability of time?"

This was beyond the understanding limits of modern physics, and Daisy shook her head to indicate her ignorance.

The Ancient One picked up her teacup and took a leisurely sip, not particularly focusing on any formalities but her movements were natural, without any affectation.

"Time has too many variables, too chaotic; a mortal body and wisdom simply cannot hold so many changes."

Daisy had no say in this matter, but she could imagine that seeing something once might feel fresh, but seeing it millions of times could become tedious. Like Doctor Strange facing Thanos and seeing 14 million possibilities, Daisy could only express her admiration.

If she were to experience 14 million repetitions of the same event, by the end, she might even forget her own last name. Then what about Thanos, who even is Thanos?

"I have seen too many possibilities; I have seen a world without Waterloo, a world where Germany won the World War..." She paused here, perhaps considering that young Americans don't study history well, worried Daisy might not understand, so she changed her approach.

Turning to her servant Fatty Wong, "For example, in one timeline, Wong's grandfather became the founding leader, and he was born a prince."

Daisy followed her gaze to this fat man. Could someone with such a fat face be a prince? Probably the bullying type who was always slapped in the face by the protagonist, right?

It was also the first time Wong had heard this narrative, his oily face beaming with energy.

The Ancient One chuckled lightly, "However, in this timeline, his grandfather died quite early, and his father was just a butcher."

Daisy felt she roughly understood the Ancient One's point.

The Ancient One sighed, "Take for instance you, Daisy Johnson. In some timelines, you became a level 10 agent at eighteen, in others, you didn't enter SHIELD until you were 24. In some timelines, we have spoken, in others, not. There are too many variations, at crossroads I really don't know how to choose, I can only leave everything to fate to develop on its own."

"The great upheaval of the future is coming, and the world needs your strength to maintain balance." The Ancient One spoke the word "balance" very softly, and Daisy didn't catch it clearly, her attention was elsewhere.

"Are you going to teach me magic?"

"Haha—" The bald woman laughed loudly, leaving Daisy confused; if not for the Ancient One's hearty laugh, which wasn't the cold cackle of a villain, she might have run away.

"Daisy, you are not suited to learning magic. In timelines you do not know, I have taught you 75 times, tried every method, and unfortunately, I am not prepared to attempt a 76th. Your path is not in magic."

Daisy's face turned embarrassed. Was she really that stupid? Fatty Wong nearby also looked as if he agreed with the sentiment of her lack of aptitude.

"Magic never belonged to this world. The stronger the magic you use, the stronger the world will fight against you. It is a tempting force that seduces; using it means resisting its temptations and facing the oppression of the entire world."

The Ancient One looked down, her eyes seeming to penetrate through the time and space, "I ask them to strengthen their bodies, hoping to minimize magic's harm to them, but it is unfortunate that they don't understand my painstaking efforts."

Daisy thought for a while. She couldn't judge whether the Ancient One was telling the truth or not, but her theory was similar to what Constantine said in the DC world next door. Both magic users advocated using magic carefully and said to not use it if you can.

Having finished explaining the dangers of magic, and seeing Daisy in thought, the Ancient One smiled faintly.

"You have your own path, and you need not force yourself into magic, which is not as beautiful as you imagine. In the 315 experiences I've observed, your fate is deeply connected with K'un-Lun, where you will find some opportunities. So go there and see when you have time."

With that, she lightly tapped, and the K'un-Lun ring on Daisy's hand emitted a dazzling bright light.

"Visit when you have time; I've given you coordinates, and your weird abilities will take you there." After speaking, the Ancient One nodded slightly and left the New York Sanctum.

Daisy raised her palm, sensing carefully, she indeed could feel a set of coordinates within the ring that were completely different from the real world.

K'un-Lun enters Earth once every ten years, existing in another dimension the rest of the time. Now, the coordinates the Ancient One gave her were for this other dimension, which alone was a great help for her long-distance teleportation abilities.

Daisy bowed deeply in the direction the Ancient One had left, acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Ancient One, who had used a lot of Dormammu's dark magic to protect Earth.

The dark traits were constantly eroding her mind, but the old woman endured the struggle to protect the planet. Now, the old lady was tired and weary.

Constantly wandering through timelines, even if her magic was still strong, her soul was burdened, and her thoughts had become extremely negative. In short, she wanted to rest.

"I'm going back to Kamar-Taj, do you need me to take you along?" Fatty Wong had already packed his bags, ready to leave New York.

Daisy thought for a moment; she still had many things to handle, and her trip to K'un-Lun needed some preparation.

"Brother Wong, let us part ways here!" She clasped her hands in farewell amid Fatty Wong's twitching expression.

Watching him teleport away with a weird face, Daisy walked out with a light chuckle.
