Chapter 14: The Return
The days turned into weeks, and the weight of her regret continued to bear down on Eva. Despite her best efforts, she found herself growing weaker, her health deteriorating rapidly. The stress, the sleepless nights, and the constant heartache were taking their toll on her body. She tried to ignore it, to push through, but it was clear to everyone around her that something was terribly wrong.
One evening, as Eva lay in her bed, a fever raging through her body, she felt a presence in her apartment. She was too weak to open her eyes, but she sensed someone standing beside her. A gentle hand touched her forehead, and for a moment, she felt a flicker of hope.
"Elias?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.
There was a pause, and then a familiar voice replied, "Mm"
Eva's heart ached at the sound of his voice. She struggled to open her eyes, and when she finally did, she saw Elias standing over her, his expression a mix of concern and frustration.
"Elias... why are you here?" she asked, her voice weak.
Elias sighed, his firm gaze unwavering. "Magnus forced me to come. He said you were ill."
Eva's eyes filled with tears. "I didn't mean to... I didn't want to make you come here. I'm so sorry."
Elias's expression remained cold, his eyes hard. "Save your apologies, Eva. I'm only here because Magnus insisted and he wouldn't let me back in the mansion till I came to see you."
Eva's heart sank at his tone, but she knew she had no right to expect anything else. "Thank you for coming," she whispered, her voice trembling.
Elias knelt beside her, his eyes searching her face. "You're actually ill, you need to get better."
Eva shook her head weakly. "I don't deserve your help, Elias. After everything I've done... I'm so sorry."
Elias's jaw tightened, and he looked away. "You need to rest. We'll talk later."
Eva's eyes fluttered closed, the exhaustion overwhelming her. As she drifted into unconsciousness, she felt the faint touch of Elias's hand on her cheek, and for a moment, she allowed herself to believe that everything would be alright.
Elias stayed by her side, watching over her as she slept. The sight of her so fragile and vulnerable stirred something deep within him, a feeling he had tried so hard to bury. He couldn't deny the love he still felt for her, but the pain of her rejection was still fresh in his mind.
As the night wore on, Elias found himself lost in thought. Magnus had been right to force him to come. Eva needed help, and despite everything, he couldn't abandon her. He couldn't let her die.
When Eva awoke the next morning, she felt a little stronger. She opened her eyes and saw Elias sitting by her bedside, his expression meditative. "Elias," she whispered, her voice still weak.
Elias looked at her, his eyes filled with a mix of emotions. "How are you feeling?" he asked, his voice gentle.
"A little better," Eva replied, managing a faint smile. "Thank you for staying."
Elias nodded, but his expression remained guarded. "Magnus made it clear that you needed help. I couldn't ignore that."
Eva's heart ached at his words, but she knew he was right. She had caused him so much pain, and now she had to live with the consequences. "I understand," she said softly. "I'm grateful for your help, Elias."
Elias sighed. "Eva, you need to focus on getting better. We'll deal with everything else later."
Eva nodded, her eyes filling with tears. "I will, Elias. I promise."
As the days passed, Elias continued to care for Eva, ensuring she had everything she needed to recover. Despite his initial coldness, he found it increasingly difficult to keep his emotions at bay. The sight of her growing stronger, her spirit fighting to overcome her illness, reminded him of the love they had once shared.
One evening, as he sat by her bedside, Eva looked up at him, her eyes filled with gratitude and sorrow. "Elias, I need to tell you something," she said, her voice trembling.
Elias looked at her, his expression wary. "What is it, Eva?"
Tears streamed down her face as she spoke. "I'm so sorry for everything I've done. I was scared, and I hurt you. But I love you, Elias. I always have."
Elias's heart ached at her words, but he couldn't bring himself to respond. Instead, he tried to ignore her, his gaze fixed on the floor. "You need to rest, Eva. We'll talk later."
But Eva couldn't let it go with a surge of strength; she reached out and grabbed his hand, pulling him down towards her. Before he could react, she pressed her lips to his in a desperate, passionate kiss.
Elias's eyes widened in shock, his body tensing at the unexpected contact. For a moment, he resisted, his mind screaming at him to pull away but the warmth of her lips, the intensity of her love, broke through the walls he had built around his heart.
"Eva, stop," Elias murmured, trying to pull away, but Eva held on tighter, her kisses growing more passionate.
"Elias, please," she whispered between kisses. "I love you."
Elias's resolve began to crumble, the love he had tried so hard to bury surging to the surface. He kissed her back, his arms wrapping around her as he gave in to the passion that had been building between them.
The night was filled with whispered apologies and declarations of love, their bodies entwined in a desperate embrace. The pain and anger melted away, replaced by a fierce, overwhelming love. They lost themselves in each other, the world outside fading into oblivion.
When the morning light filtered through the curtains, Eva lay in Elias's arms, her heart filled with a sense of peace she hadn't felt in a long time. She looked up at him, her eyes filled with love and gratitude. "Elias, thank you," she whispered, her voice trembling.
Elias's expression softened, and for a moment, he allowed himself to feel the love he had tried so hard to bury. "I won't leave you, Eva. Not this time," he whispered, his voice filled with determination.
As they lay together, their hearts beating in unison, they knew that the road ahead would be difficult but they also knew that they had each other, and that was enough. They would face whatever came next together, their love and determination guiding them through the darkness
But as the morning wore on, Elias began to feel a familiar, unsettling sensation. His bloodlust, which he had managed to keep at bay, seemed to have increased dramatically. He felt a surge of hunger that threatened to overwhelm him, his sanity slipping away.
Eva noticed the change in him immediately. "Elias, what's wrong?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.
Elias's eyes darkened, his body trembling with the effort to control himself. "Eva, you need to stay away from me," he growled, his voice strained. "I can't... I can't control it."
Eva's heart pounded with fear, but she refused to leave his side.
But Elias's bloodlust was too strong. He felt his sanity slipping away, the primal hunger taking over. With a roar of desperation, he lunged at Eva, his eyes wild with hunger.
Eva's eyes widened in shock, her heart racing. "Elias!" she cried, her voice filled with terror.
At the last moment, Elias managed to regain a shred of control. He stumbled back, his body trembling with the effort to resist. "Eva, get out of here," he gasped, his voice filled with anguish. "I don't want to hurt you."
Eva's heart ached at the sight of him, but she knew she had to listen. She backed away, her eyes filled with tears. "Elias, please. Fight it."
As she fled the room, Elias fell to his knees, his hands clutching his head as he fought against the darkness within.
