Thirst For You

Chapter 13: Bait and Betrayal

The tension between Elias and Lucian had been simmering for centuries, a rivalry that had only grown more intense with each passing lifetime. While Elias had withdrawn into the shadows, hardening his heart against the pain of love lost, Lucian had been plotting his next move. He knew Elias had grown stronger, more resilient, and this only fuelled his desire to destroy his brother once and for all.

Lucian prowled the city, always watching, always waiting. He could sense the change in Elias, the newfound strength that made him more dangerous than ever before. Lucian knew he couldn't defeat Elias with strength alone. He needed control, something that would bring Elias to his knees.

And then he saw her—Eva. The one person who could still reach the depths of Elias's heart. A sinister smile spread across Lucian's face as he watched her from the shadows. She was the perfect bait.

Eva had been trying to move on with her life, but the emptiness remained. The regret of her words haunted her, and the memories of Elias were a constant presence. She missed him terribly, and the hope of ever making things right grew dimmer with each passing day.

One evening, as Eva walked home from work, she felt a familiar chill run down her spine. She glanced around, her heart pounding with a mix of hope and fear. But it wasn't Elias who emerged from the shadows—it was Lucian.

"Hello, my love," Lucian said, his voice smooth and menacing. "It's been a long time."

Eva's heart raced with alarm. "Lucian, what do you want?" she asked, her voice trembling.

Lucian's smile widened. "You. You're going to help me bring Elias to his knees."

Eva's eyes widened with fear. "No. I won't do it. I won't betray him."

Lucian's expression darkened. "Oh, but you will because if you don't, I'll make sure you suffer. And you won't be the only one."

Before Eva could react, Lucian grabbed her and dragged her into the shadows. She struggled, but his strength was overwhelming. Panic surged through her as she realized she had no way to escape.

Meanwhile, Elias had been trying to forget Eva, to bury the pain deep within. But something gnawed at him, an instinctive feeling that she was in danger. He tried to push it aside, but it wouldn't go away.

Finally, unable to ignore the feeling any longer, Elias set out to find her. His heart ached with the possibility of seeing her again, but he knew he couldn't let anything happen to her. As he moved through the city, his senses honed in on her presence.

It didn't take long for him to find them. Lucian had taken Eva to an abandoned warehouse, a place filled with shadows and echoes of the past. Elias's eyes burned with fury as he saw Eva, bound and unconscious, with Lucian standing over her.

"Lucian!" Elias roared, his voice filled with rage. "This is between you and me, brother. We can't put the lives of mere mortals at risk."

Lucian turned, a cruel smile on his face. "Ah, Elias. I knew you'd come. You always do, don't you? "

Elias's eyes were cold and firm. "Lucian. This is between us."

Lucian laughed, the sound echoing through the warehouse. "Oh, but that's the beauty of it, Elias. You see, she's the perfect bait and now, you're here, just as I planned."

Elias stepped forward, his body tense with anger and determination. "You won't get away with this, Lucian. I'll stop you."

Lucian's smile faded, replaced by a look of cold calculation. "We'll see about that, brother. But first, let's see if you can save her."

With a flick of his wrist, Lucian summoned a wall of shadow between them, separating Elias from Eva. The darkness was impenetrable, a barrier that seemed impossible to break.

Elias's eyes narrowed, his mind racing. He knew he had to play this differently....he couldn't let Lucian know how much Eva still meant to him. He took a deep breath, forcing his expression to remain cold and detached.

"Do you really think I care about her anymore, Lucian?" Elias said, his voice dripping with despise. "She's just another mortal."

Lucian's eyes widened in surprise, his confidence wavering for a moment. "You don't care about her? Then why are you here?"

Elias's gaze was icy. "I didn't want you to abduct mortals so I just came to put an end to you once and for all. She's nothing to me now."

Eva stirred slightly, her unconscious form a stark contrast to the tension between the brothers. Lucian's confusion grew, and he glanced at Eva, then back at Elias. "You expect me to believe that? After taking her away from me?"

Elias stepped closer, his expression unwavering. "Believe what you want, Lucian but this ends tonight."

Lucian's eyes flickered with uncertainty, and for the first time, he hesitated. Elias seized the moment, his movements swift and calculated. He lunged at Lucian, their bodies colliding with a force that shook the warehouse.

The two brothers clashed, their movements swift and deadly. Lucian's confusion made him reckless, and Elias used it to his advantage. With a powerful blow, Elias sent Lucian crashing to the ground.

Elias growled, his voice filled with resolve. "You're finished."

Lucian looked up at him, his expression a mix of rage and disbelief. "This isn't over, Elias. It never will be."

Elias turned to Eva, his eyes filled with concern. He knelt beside her, gently lifting her unconscious form. He carried her back to her apartment, his heart heavy with the weight of his emotions. Once inside, he laid her down gently on her bed.

As he looked down at her, he reached out with the back of his hand and brushed a strand of hair away from her face. His eyes softened for a moment, and he whispered, "little bunny, why is it so hard to forget you?"

With a heavy heart, Elias turned and left the apartment, disappearing into the night. He had saved her from Lucian's clutches, but the battle within his own heart was far from over.
