Chapter 36: Chapter 36: The Debut of Electro
[Long-term mission: Gwen's Transformation. Stage one objective completed.]
[You have acquired a special skill: Toxin Resistance.]
[Any toxic chemical substance, even lethal ones, will have no effect on you.]
[Additionally, toxins will be visible to you.]
[If you consume food containing deadly toxins, your poison resistance will increase.]
Peter was slightly stunned.
There's a reward like this?
He immediately took Gwen to a Chinese restaurant and asked the staff for a raw green bean.
He took a bite.
The system's voice echoed in his ears.
[Poison Resistance +1]
Peter felt satisfied. His curiosity was completely fulfilled.
Although this skill seemed a bit niche, as the saying goes, having it was better than not.
"Peter, when did you get interested in Chinese food?"
Gwen asked absentmindedly, her thoughts still preoccupied with the Green Goblin.
"Hmm..."
"I've always liked it. After high school, we can go to the East together. There's so much amazing food there. After spending some time there, I bet you'll never want to eat bland Western food again."
The Parker family's eating habits had changed a lot over the years.
For example, at least four days a week, they ate Chinese food.
They even enjoyed dishes that were uncommon in America, like spicy hot pot, hot pot, barbecue, dumplings, and more...
At first, it was just to accommodate Peter's preferences, but eventually, the whole family fell in love with Chinese cuisine.
"Alright, Gwen, stop worrying about the Green Goblin."
"Hopefully, Osborn will be locked up for life. If he dares to come out and cause trouble again, Spider-Woman will definitely stop him."
Gwen's eyes lit up.
"You're right, Peter. Next time the Green Goblin tries to do something evil, I bet Spider-Woman won't let him off so easily!!"
The two chatted and ate together.
Suddenly, someone in the restaurant shouted.
"Oh my God!! Someone's about to jump off a building!!!"
Hearing this, everyone rushed outside, including Peter and Gwen.
On the rooftop of a tall building, a middle-aged Black man with glasses was preparing to jump.
One more step, and he would fall to his death, splattering on the ground.
The man's name was Max Dillon, and like the late Vulture, he was an electrical engineer.
A single parent, a neglected childhood had shaped him into a sensitive, suspicious, irritable, and easily angered person. He was also deeply insecure.
At work, he had no friends.
In love, he was alone.
In family, he had lost both parents.
This tragic life left him without hope.
Working at Oscorp, he had a decent salary, but after the revelation that Norman Osborn was the Green Goblin, the company underwent a major reshuffle.
A supervisor who had always disliked him became his direct boss.
This made his daily work life unbearable.
Every day at work, he felt like dying!!!!!!!
This lack of respect and recognition made him lose all passion for life.
Today, right now, after finishing his last lunch, he was ready to join his deceased mother.
Meanwhile.
At the base of the building.
"Oh, Peter, I think I ate something bad. I need to go to the restroom."
"Go ahead."
Peter saw through Gwen's plan but didn't stop her.
Two minutes later.
Just as Max was about to jump, a voice called out to him from behind.
"Hey, buddy, what's wrong?"
"Thinking about jumping? What are you thinking? There's so much in the world you haven't experienced yet. Why rush to leave?"
"Be more positive about life!"
"Even if you jump, I'll save you with my webs."
Spider-Woman's voice sounded like music to Max's ears.
The more insecure a person is, the more they crave attention.
Max had always wanted to be noticed since he was a child!
And now, who was standing in front of him?
Spider-Woman!!
A superhero often featured on TV!!!
Max was ecstatic.
His thoughts of suicide vanished instantly!!
He wasn't invisible—someone as important as Spider-Woman cared about his life!!
"Can I get your autograph?"
Max asked excitedly.
"Uh, sure."
Gwen gracefully signed "Spider-Woman" on the first page of Max's diary.
"Live well, buddy."
"I've got a world to save, so I can't chat long. I hope the next time I see you, you'll be living more positively."
With that, Spider-Woman shot a web and swung away.
Max, left behind, shouted after her excitedly.
"Spider-Woman, I'm your fan from now on!"
Max was genuinely happy.
This feeling of being valued was amazing, especially coming from such a renowned figure.
It gave him a newfound sense of purpose in life.
A moment later, Gwen reappeared beside Peter.
"That's strange. Maybe I'm not used to Chinese food."
Peter: "..."
"Miss Gwen, don't blame your upset stomach on Chinese food, okay?"
"Hehe."
"There's still some food left. Let's keep eating."
Ever since becoming a superhero, Gwen's appetite had grown surprisingly large!!
But her figure hadn't changed much.
In fact, it had become even more toned.
