Chapter 237: Better Late Than Never
[ Third Person POV ]
Ohara, West Blue
"Professor Clover!!" Nico Olvia screamed as she rushed over to Professor Clover's corpse.
Vice-Admiral Jaguar was stunned at the sudden turn of events. He was already aware of the impending Buster Call, but he never thought that it would be because of a trivial affair like history.
"Hm? Oh! You, Vice-Admiral. Since you're already here, go round up the other villagers of Ohara. We need to make sure that everyone on this island dies," Spandine ordered Jaguar with a wave of his hand.
However, Vice Admiral Jaguar remained standing where he was, and he didn't move a muscle from where he stood.
The subordinates that were with the Vice-Admiral were conflicted on what they should be doing; they didn't get orders from the Vice-Admiral, yet there was a CP agent ordering them to apprehend the villagers.
"Vice Admiral Jaguar! Please Relay your orders!" The subordinate saluted while looking at the Vice Admiral.
In his pocket, the transponder snail immediately began ringing. Vice Admiral Jaguar immediately picked up the call and listened to what the other end of the line had to say.
"Vice-Admiral Jaguar! Are you on Ohara Island?" Admiral Sengoku's voice boomed from the other end of the line.
"Yes, Admiral, I am, but the people of Ohara-" Vice Admiral Jaguar was about to explain the situation, but he was cut off by Sengoku.
"Good, there should be some Cipher Pol agents nearby; be sure to follow their orders. I've already sent some Vice Admirals over there to help with the operation, and they should be arriving shortly," Admiral Sengoku said.
"I understand, Admiral, but the people of Ohara haven't done anything inherently wrong. All they've done from what I can gather is that they were simply researching history," Vice Admiral Jaguar explained.
"I understand that, but these are the orders coming from the World Government. They take priority over the context of the situation," Admiral Sengoku replied patiently, "now make sure to follow their instructions and handle the situation accordingly. When you report back, you will be debriefed even further."
"Admiral Sengoku-" Vice Admiral Jaguar couldn't complete his statement because Admiral Sengoku hung up the call.
"The hell are you doing? Go to the village and start arresting them!" Spandine, who had been listening in on the conversation, suddenly snapped.
"Professor Clover!!" Nico Olvia kept on trying to shake Professor Clover's corpse.
Slowly accepting the fact that Professor Clover was already dead, she gripped her rifle before aiming right at Spandine.
"I'll make you pa-" She was about to pull the trigger, but a blade suddenly emerged right from her chest.
She slowly looked down bewilderedly at the blade that emerged from her chest.
"Although we need someone to interpret those Poneglyphs, we can always look for one inside that library," Spandine grinned cruelly as he aimed his pistol right at Olvia and pulled the trigger, making Olvia's head snap backward as she fell on her back.
"Mama!" A small child tried running up to Olvia's corpse; she had black hair and similar features to Olvia. She wore a purple dress and her blue eyes were tearing up as she looked at her mother.
Vice Admiral Jaguar grabbed her before she got too close; there was no telling what Spandine would do if he laid his eyes on her.
"Hm? Is that brat her kid?"
Too late.
"Can she read those poneglyphs too? We'll just have to take her in and see, I guess," Spandine remarked as he blew the smoke off his muzzle.
The blade responsible for running Olvia through was slowly drawn from her corpse as the World Government agent in question flung her blood off his blade with a simple swing.
"Go help the Marines with apprehending those villagers," Spandine ordered, "we need to find some more people who can read those Poneglyphs before-"
An explosion bloomed from where the tree of life had been.
"Oh, looks like they're already here," Spandine muttered as he slowly began heading to the ship, "Vice Admiral, bring the kid with you; we're ditching this island."
"I'm not abandoning the civilians; some have no relations with what the scholars have been doing!" Vice Admiral Jaguar remarked. He had let too many things happen without him doing anything, and he was going to take action.
"Kill yourself if you want, but that child is coming with us," Spandine remarked as he slowly walked over and grabbed the child.
"No!! I don't want to come with you!! Let Me Go!!!" The child tugged and pulled, trying to release his grip from Spandine's grip.
Vice Admiral Jaguar didn't let that slide.
He shoved Spandine away, making him lose his grip on the child, and slowly brought the child behind him.
"This child will not be coming with you; find another scholar to help out with your research," Vice Admiral Jaguar said calmly.
Veins popped out of Spandine's forehead as he glared back at the Vice-Admiral.
"You dare disobey the orders of the World Government! You can be killed right now for insubordination!!!" Spandine roared as he flashed his pistol once again.
"Vice Admiral!!" Vice Admiral Jaguar's subordinates exclaimed as they remained conflicted about what they should be doing.
"These are my final orders as your Vice Admiral," Vice Admiral Jaguar's stern voice could be heard through the sudden bombardment of Ohara.
The flames and screams of the villagers could be heard as more bombing continued.
"You are to guide the villagers to a nearby ship and escort them away from the island. The Vice Admirals in charge won't attack a civilian ship," Vice Admiral Jaguar ordered his subordinates.
The Marine soldiers saluted with tears in their eyes before they began executing his final orders.
"This could all be resolved if you simply brought that child over to us, you know?" Spandine remarked as he readied to fire his pistol.
"Hmph! Nobody is getting their hands on this child!!" Jaguar roared as both he and the World Government agents readied themselves for battle.
"Ararara, What's going on here?" Vice-Admiral Kuzan's voice echoed from the sidelines.
They both looked at the new arrival.
Kuzan had recognized Jaguar from a distance when he had arrived on Ohara. He wanted to see why he was on the island and decided to head on over to get a closer look.
"Another Vice Admiral! Even better! Execute him for insubordination; he has failed to turn over that child that we intend to arrest for various World Government reasons. He also has resigned from his position as a Vice Admiral," Spandine immediately began ordering Kuzan.
"The Marines aren't your servants to boss around," Kuzan remarked as he looked at the fearful child as she cried. The child had been looking at the corpse of a woman who wasn't too far away from them.
"Is it true that you've resigned from the Marines?" Kuzan asked his friend as an explosion boomed nearby.
Looking into the resolute eyes of Jaguar verified all he needed to know about the situation. Jaguar wasn't going to hand over the child, and he wasn't coming back to the Marines either.
"Just hand over the kid; we'll figure out what to do with her later," Kuzan tried to reason with him.
"No! This child has already suffered enough in the hands of the World Government!" Jaguar raised his arms as he started shielding the child from the both of them.
"Hmph! Just kill the man and grab the child! Are all you Marines so idiotic?!" Spandine was getting impatient.
Kuzan's veins began popping out of his forehead as he looked at Spandine. While the two began to argue with each other, Jaguar looked behind him and began to talk to the child that he was protecting.
"Child, what's your name?" Jaguar asked softly.
"My name is Nico Robin, but why did you let them kill my mom?! You let them kill the Professor as well!" Nico Robin asked; she was still shocked by the sudden turn of events.
"I'm sorry that I don't have the time to explain what's going on, but you need to leave now unless you want to be caught by them," Jaguar explained.
Kuzan and Spandine were still arguing with each other while the two of them talked.
"Where will I go?" Nico Robin slowly began crying again, "I don't have anyone else aside from my mom and the Professor."
"There's a ship that's designated for civilians; get on board there and head to the nearest island. I'm not sure what you'll be able to do, but I know a bright girl like you will be able to figure things out," Jaguar remarked as he kept his eyes on the two men, "Now quickly, run! Before they begin to realize that you're gone!"
Robin, scared out of her wits, immediately began running away from them and headed toward the ship.
"Oi! The girl's getting away! Grab her, or I'll have you executed for insubordination as well!!" Spandine remarked.
The World Government agents rushed off to try and grab her. Kuzan remained conflicted on what to do, but his train of thought was interrupted when they heard an all too familiar baleful roar coming from the sky.
In the sky, the appearance of a three-headed dragon could be seen hidden among the clouds.
