The Thorne of Destiny

Chapter 21: The mastermind

In a luxurious manor on the other side of town, the sound of glass breaking could be heard as a furious roar sounded as the aura of a peak stage foundation establishment realm erupted through the room.

"What the hell do you mean you couldn't find it?"

This was alchemist Alfred's manor.

Standing before him were the three assassins with their heads lowered, trying to withstand the pressure that was currently crushing them.

Surprisingly this attack on Melvin was coordinated by Alfred.

His usual warm and kind visage had crumbled as he was exuding fierce killing intent that shouldn't be found in an alchemist.

After finding out about the auction, he already had a plan in mind.

He wanted the silvereye grass, but he didn't want to pay the sky-high price that he knew that it would be auctioned for.

Therefore he decided he would simply kill and steal it from Melvin.

How was he so sure that Melvin would be the one who would end up purchasing it at the auction?

Well it's simple really. They were both the only two peak rank 2 alchemists in Roser town.

Even if someone else won it, it would eventually come back to the hands of either one of them, except of course, the person went to a larger city to find a higher-grade alchemist.

But who would take that risk? Aside from the fact that it would be a long journey, it would also be extremely dangerous.

He knew that though it was tempting, the family heads of the big families would not want to spend too much money on a herb only to have to spend more to hire an alchemist.

Therefore Melvin was the final conclusion. The only reason why he had even bid at the auction was to avoid suspicion as everybody would be expecting him and Melvin to fight over the silvereye grass.

This was supposed to be foolproof and everything had been going according to plan....

Until it wasn't.

He wasn't expecting that even after killing Melvin, he wasn't able to get the silvereye grass.

Several scenarios were going through his mind. Maybe Melvin hid it somewhere they couldn't find it?

However, he quickly dismissed this thought.

They acted quickly in order to prevent this from happening in the first place.

The only other conclusion would be...someone else beat him to it.

As soon as he thought of this, a cold glint flashed through his eyes as he tried to figure out who it was.

The next day, a piece of shocking news spread out through the town.

The news of alchemist Melvin's death spread like wildfire throughout the town.

Many people knew about the auction and knew that he had obtained a significant windfall.

However, no one would expect that he would be attacked so quickly.

After all, there were very few individuals who could threaten alchemist Melvin in Roser town.

Even the city lord would think twice before antagonizing such a renowned alchemist.

The death was caused a wave of mixed reactions among the residents.

City guards started patrolling all across town and even the gates showed a major change.

Everyone who wanted to leave had to undergo stringent scrutiny from the guards in order to go through the city gates.

This was the action of the city lord. He was hoping to use this method to find alchemist Melvin's killer.

Of course, this wasn't out of camaraderie as he himself was not too fond of Melvin.

Melvin had always been arrogant towards him and even if he wasn't directly rude, he didn't show him as much respect as the other bigwigs in the town.

The city lord wanted to find Melvin's treasures. Particularly, the silvereye grass.

He knew that this was probably the reason why Melvin was killed.

This made Adrian give up on his plans of leaving immediately.

If he tried to leave now, not only would Melvin's storage ring be discovered on him, but he would also be exposing his identity.

Storage rings of the same rank could not be kept within each other

Since both his and Melvin's storage rings were mid-grade storage rings, having a capacity of 100 cubic meters, he naturally couldn't store them in each other.

As he lay in bed thinking about this problem, his mind drifted off to another storage tool he had.

He glanced down to look at the blood star around his neck as a crazy idea appeared in his mind.

What if....
