Chapter 20: The Death of Alchemist Melvin
The three assassins dashed out at the same time. The first one was faster than the rest as he immediately appeared in front of Melvin.
He thrust his dagger forward, attempting to pierce Melvin's throat.
Melvin dodged with a little difficulty as he tried to regain his bearings.
The other two assassins had already appeared behind him completely entrapping him in their middle.
As the four individuals were fighting, none of them noticed the black shadow that swiftly escaped into the darkness of the night.
Adrian appeared in the courtyard of Melvin's house and found multiple bodies on the ground belonging to both the guards and the assassins.
He immediately dashed out after surveying the area and not finding anyone. He didn't know if they had all killed each other or if some people had run away.
He immediately dashed out of the courtyard into the empty street.
The commotion had already scared people away and he could only find a few city guards that were running towards the direction of Melvin's manor.
They had heard about the commotion and were going to find out what was going on.
After avoiding them and running through some streets, Adrian took off his hood as he slowed down his pace and blended into the crowd.
He walked at a leisurely pace as if he had just been taking a stroll and had not just robbed someone.
He kept walking for about two hours before finally arriving at the inn.
He entered the room to be greeted by the two kids.
Olivia ran up to hug him while shouting excitedly
"Big brother!!!"
Adrian smiled and pinched the chubby cheeks of the cute little girl while replying with a smile
"Is anything wrong Liv?"
Adrian and Jayson recently started calling her by her nickname which was Liv.
"No, I just missed you"
She replied with a smile. His heart warmed while patting her little head.
Jayson also came up to him and asked him curiously
"Have you finished with your matters?"
Jayson was not as naive as Olivia. He knew that Adrian had to take care of some issues. That was why they were still in this town.
"Yeah, I'm done. We can leave tomorrow."
Meanwhile, at Melvin's manor, Melvin was fighting furiously for his life.
His body was covered with wounds as he repeatedly punched the assassins trying to kill him.
His heart was currently filled with anger.
Anger towards the assassins in front of him who were trying to kill him. Anger towards the person that sent them.
And anger towards the one who stole his storage ring.
He wouldn't be in such a bad state if he had his storage ring.
Such thoughts made him even angrier as he swore in his heart that if he were to survive this, he would hunt the bastard down.
His anger clouded his judgement causing him to make a fatal mistake.
After dodging the attack of the first assassin and blocking the second with a punch, he failed to notice the third right behind him.
All the hair on his body stood up as He suddenly felt a sense of danger.
He felt a sharp pain while a wet feeling spread throughout his back.
He turned around to find assassin 3 with a dagger plunged into his back.
He opened his mouth to speak but couldn't muster out anything.
The dagger which has pierced through his heart was twisted and brought out.
His body fell to the ground as his face which was filled with despair and unwillingness finally stopped moving.
Alchemist Melvin was dead.
The assassins who were quite happy with their handiwork came to inspect the body.
Their expressions changed when they couldn't find his storage ring.
They searched all over the body but there was nothing on him.
They suddenly realized why Melvin looked so unprepared and was yelling at them when they first entered.
This meant that somebody beat them to Melvin and robbed him first.
They fanatically searched the room, hoping that Melvin had just hidden it somewhere.
However, it was only a futile effort.
They couldn't find anything worthwhile except some pills.
They were angry and rightfully so.
They had worked so hard to kill Melvin while someone else reaped the benefits.
They had to leave the manor begrudgingly as they knew that it wouldn't be long before their commotion attracted the attention of the city guards.
