Chapter 60
At that moment, Tan was sitting in the main reception room of the duke’s residence after receiving a call from Duke Galloway.
“I called you because you know a lot about shantytown. I have a charity project I’m going to promote.”
The Duke was talking about something in front of him, yet Tan couldn’t hear it. Being here reminded him of the moment when he first encountered Sellonia.
The way she came running in her pajamas and looked at him sitting in the reception room, so surprised that her eyes popped out.
That face was still vivid in his mind, so Tan raised the corners of his mouth without realizing it.
From then on, he became curious.
He wondered what those transparent blue eyes were hiding, and he wanted to dig into their inner thoughts.
“Sir.”
“Yes.”
“I think the temporary buildings built in the shantytown are at risk of collapse, so if we leave them like this, there could be a great loss of life. Specifically, I’m looking for a place to live so that they can stay, so I hope you can help me later.”
Galloway gave a very warm smile and explained the business in general terms.
Tan ignored his words and just stared into his eyes.
Looking at it this way, Sellonia and Galloway’s eyes seemed similar.
However, their appearances and colors were similar, but their beggarly feelings were completely different.
If Sellonia’s eyes made him stare at them endlessly without realizing how much time had passed, Galloway’s eyes were, well, strange.
When he smiled kindly, there was a warm light, yet behind his smile there was always something cold.
“It will take some time until His Imperial Majesty the Emperor approves and puts it into action, but I will try my best, so if the plan to move is certain, I hope you will step forward.”
“How do you want me to step forward?”
“No matter how beneficial it is to them, they might feel unfamiliar at first, so if you step forward, they will follow along. You’re a hero to them, the Beast of the Night.”
So Galloway’s words meant that he would use Tan’s image to facilitate the charity work that he would later realize.
It wouldn’t be particularly difficult, and it wouldn’t be detrimental to those living in the shantytown, so Tan nodded.
He knew better than anyone that the houses in the shantytown, which weren’t even buildings, could collapse at any moment.
“Hahaha. Thank you. By the way, it’s been almost three weeks since you’ve been staying in the mansion. Have you regained your memories?”
“There hasn’t been any progress.”
“Goodness. How about I introduce you to a doctor that I know well?”
Galloway suggested to Tan as if he felt sorry.
“It’s okay.”
But Tan flatly refused.
It really didn’t matter if he didn’t have any more memories of the past. It was truly amazing that just a short while ago, he had been desperate to regain his lost memories and find out who he was.
That one person could completely change his life’s goals like this.
“I’ll be going now.”
“Alright. Just go.”
Tan foolishly declined the Duke’s offer and left the reception room.
A pleasant smile formed on his lips. Naturally, he turned to Sellonia.
***
Sellonia was in the largest central library in the Empire.
To find out what Grace had fed the male leads before carrying out the operation tonight.
She had already returned from touring the Monterra Magic District with her robes turned inside out.
Although she looked into whether there were any magical tools or potions that could bewitch people’s hearts when eaten, everyone unanimously dismissed such magic as non-existent.
‘Then what on earth did Grace do?’
She had just come to the library to find out. Before going out, Sellonia cut the pound cake she brought yesterday in half and analyzed it.
She dug it out, crushed it with her hands, and examined it carefully, but it was just an ordinary pound cake, and there was nothing particularly strange about it.
However, the cake had the same bad smell. Ella said it still had a rich aroma, though.
“How strange.”
There were more than one or two strange things, but if she were to summarize what she has found out so far, it would be like this.
First, Grace probably used some kind of food to trick the male leads into winning their hearts.
Second, that trick can be counteracted by her healing ability.
Third, the food she tricked into smells bad. It seems like only Tan and she can smell that bad smell.
“Why on earth?”
Why can only Tan and me smell that smell, and why did Grace go to such lengths to forcibly win the hearts of the male leads?
And why were the men Grace chose the original male leads, of all people? What is her purpose?
Just simply curious?
“Haa…”
With her complicated mind, Sellonia let out a deep sigh and plopped down on the large sofa in the central hall.
She searched through the library for magic books, but as expected, there was no such magic.
“By the way, Miss. Is there something happening between you and Sir Tan?”
“What? What! What happened!”
Sellonia was startled by Ella’s question and got up.
“Huh? No, you just didn’t make eye contact even once today…”
She was flustered by Sellonia’s unexpectedly intense reaction and mumbled.
“No. Nothing happened.”
Sellonia scratched her cheek and sat back down on the sofa, embarrassed by her sudden intense reaction.
However, the question made her recall what happened last night and the back of her neck blush.
‘Is he crazy?’
Why was he suddenly kissing someone else’s hand? She was so surprised that she couldn’t even get angry or ask what he meant, yet he just smiled calmly and disappeared with a good night’s sleep.
And when she met him in the morning, he treated her as if nothing had happened. He even smiled refreshingly.
As if she was the only one who had lost sleep because of the sudden, lightning-like contact.
What the heck.
Sellonia glared at Tan in the distance with sullen eyes.
He was leaning against the pillar at the entrance of the library with his arms crossed.
As he looked like he lived alone in this world, everyone passing by glanced at him.
“Look at that, look at that.”
She clicked her tongue with a displeased expression and turned her head.
That must be it. He clearly enjoyed being the center of attention.
“Ah, he’s looking here.”
Ella, who was sitting next to her, muttered.
Sellonia, who was leaning against the sofa with an indifferent expression, looked up.
“…”
At that moment, Sellonia froze.
The white sunlight that pierced through the transparent glass ceiling of the library poured down on Tan’s head.
He was shining brightly as if he was filled with all the light, and even his hair sparkled like black crystal.
Beneath him, the fierce expression disappeared without a trace, and a charming face was in place. He was smiling while looking at her.
That smile was so sincere and affectionate that Sellonia’s throat felt ticklish.
