Chapter 35: Forbidden magic fire
After explaining to Lynn the basic principles of combining alchemy and magic, and showing him how to do it, Nico elaborated on the advanced techniques contained in this secret method and the specialized skills required to reach this level.
Lynn spent an entire day absorbing this knowledge.
The next day, Nico brought Lynn back to the vast, square training field.
Nico smiled and said, "Lynn, it's time to attempt combining alchemy and magic. The only spell you can cast silently and without a wand is the Fire-Making Charm, so you'll use that as the basis for this attempt. As for the magical properties of material alchemy and the components of the alchemical matrix, it's up to you to decide!"
Lynn nodded, his expression cautious.
During the past week, Lynn had mastered several methods for refining magical alchemical creations, but the one he was most eager to try was refining the Anti-Magic Stone, a technique Professor Green had taught him.
So, Lynn raised his hand, conjured a ball of fire, and began to gather the materials needed to refine the Anti-Magic Stone.
The alchemical process continued, but when it came time to condense it into the Anti-Magic Stone, Lynn chose a different approach. With a wave of his wand, he released a burst of powerful magic, breaking apart the unfinished alchemical creation and transforming it into a unique energy—a special magical force infused with alchemical properties.
Although this energy was magical, Lynn could feel the distinct aura of anti-magic within it. It was a paradoxical force: magical in nature yet capable of nullifying magic. The emergence of this contradiction left Lynn in awe.
After a brief examination, Lynn discovered that this special magical energy, refined through secret methods, could suppress or even seal the magic of those he considered enemies, while leaving the magic of his allies unaffected.
This meant that this anti-magic force could not harm friendly forces by mistake!
Lynn was thrilled by this realization.
After all, the root of Professor Green's tragic failure years ago had been that his Anti-Magic Scepter not only failed to suppress his enemies but also sealed his own magic. If not for that flaw, Professor Green might have escaped using Apparition.
Now, with the refined anti-magic energy created through secret methods, Lynn could differentiate between allies and enemies, suppressing only the magic of his foes. This was a groundbreaking improvement!
Professor Green would surely be overjoyed if he learned of this!
With that thought, Lynn moved on to the next step.
He raised his left hand, summoning a blazing ball of fire, while his right hand wielded his wand to guide the special magical energy into merging with the flame.
Under the influence of the secret method Nico had taught him, the two forces gradually fused together, and the flame acquired anti-magic properties.
Maintaining the combined flame with his left hand, Lynn put away his wand and took out a mithril carving knife with his right.
Working with precision and speed, he began engraving patterns into the magical flame.
Every second the magical flame burned, it consumed more of Lynn's energy, so time was of the essence.
Without hesitation, he quickly inscribed the energy core and rune hub within two minutes. Over the next half hour, he meticulously carved alchemical runes such as "fire," "amplification," and "enhancement," along with various anti-magic runes essential to the creation of an Anti-Magic Stone or Anti-Magic Scepter.
Finally, he connected all the runes into a complete alchemical matrix.
Once again, the power of the secret method came into play, seamlessly blending the three disciplines: material alchemy, matrix alchemy, and magical flames.
With this step complete, Lynn put away his carving knife and cradled the flame with both hands.
The magical flame, now imbued with anti-magic properties, pulsed like a living thing, radiating warmth and familiarity, almost like a child seeking comfort from its parent.
The flame, a meter in diameter, continuously radiated anti-magic energy, creating an area where magical fluctuations were suppressed.
Lynn raised his hand and absorbed the flame into his body rather than into his wand.
To his amazement, he could sense the flame's dormant presence within him, ready to be summoned at will.
Nico observed and said, "The power of this flame won't grow on its own. To increase its strength, you'll need to repeat the process, refining more special magical energy and storing it within your body. This way, when you call upon it, you'll have enough to summon a flame of the size and power you need."
Lynn nodded in understanding.
Unlike ordinary flames conjured by the Fire-Making Charm, this magical flame needed to be prepared and stored in advance.
If Lynn's body was like a fish tank, the special magical energy stored within it was the water, and the process of combining alchemy with magic was akin to creating more water. By repeating the process, Lynn could expand the capacity of his "tank" and store more energy for use when needed.
Nico smiled warmly and said, "I didn't expect you to succeed in combining alchemy and magic on your first try. Now that you've created this magical flame, it's time to give it a name."
This special magical flame was an original creation, a unique type of magic never before seen in history. As such, it deserved its own name.
Hearing this, Lynn lowered his head in thought.
The essence of the flame was fire, so its name had to reflect that. It also contained the power of the Anti-Magic Stone, along with the lifelong efforts of his teacher. Adding "Forbidden Magic" to the name would honor both its abilities and his teacher's legacy.
After a moment of contemplation, Lynn raised his head, his dark red eyes flickering with fiery determination. "Master, I've decided. This special magical flame will be called the Forbidden Magic Fire!"
"Forbidden Magic Fire?" Nico nodded approvingly. "It's a good name. I believe your teacher would be proud of you."
Lynn smiled. "Of course, Master!"
Having named the Forbidden Magic Fire, Lynn eagerly tested its capabilities in the training field.
This flame could suppress magical fluctuations within its vicinity. The closer one was to the flame, the stronger the suppression. Lynn imagined that if the flame could be expanded to cover an entire area, it might even create a barrier capable of sealing a wizard's magic entirely—a magic-sealing barrier powered by the Forbidden Magic Fire!
