TG: Starting with Mangekyo

Chapter 68: Confrontation

"Arima, I'll leave the rest of the ghouls to you. Let me handle the two SS rated ones" Byakuya said as he stepped into the abandoned church alongside Arima.

"Understood" Arima replied with a slight nod.

He seemed indifferent about dealing with any level of ghouls.

At that moment, Byakuya passed his left hand in front of his eyes, briefly masking the appearance of his mangekyo sharingan, while his right hand caught the quinque briefcase that emerged from a spatial vortex.

This time, he opted for the golden briefcase — indicating the SSS rated quinque Owl.

Perhaps it was overkill, but he wanted to finish this quickly.

Seeing Byakuya draw this quinque, Arima raised an eyebrow slightly. It seemed that Byakuya had some personal history with the leader of the ghouls here.

As the two stepped further into the abandoned church, ghouls began emerging from all directions, surrounding them.

"Good afternoon, gentlemen Doves" came a voice.

A figure wearing a featureless, white mask stepped forward from the crowd of ghouls. This mask was the source of his alias, 'No Face'.

Beside him stood a ghoul wearing a crow-shaped mask — Renji Yomo.

Byakuya immediately recognized Uta, not only by his mask but also by his distinctive tattoos.

"Good afternoon" Byakuya replied calmly.

With those words, he launched himself toward Uta and Yomo, simultaneously drawing one of the Owl blades from the golden suitcase.

Arima, already prepared with his quinque, Yukimura 1/3 moved to handle the other ghouls.

Initially, Uta seemed to treat the fight as a game, refraining from activating his kagune.

Yomo, too, believed Uta could easily handle these seemingly young investigators, sparing him the effort.

But in the blink of an eye, Byakuya had already closed the distance between them, and the ominous power of his quinque became evident.

"Oh?" Uta finally realized his opponent was no ordinary investigator.

Yomo reacted swiftly, releasing his ukaku and firing crystalline projectiles toward Byakuya, much like the Owl.

However, compared to the Non-Killing Owl and the One-Eyed Owl, Yomo's attack lacked power, speed, and density. For someone like Byakuya, who had faced the Owls multiple times, dodging this was child's play.

"Don't underestimate him!" Yomo warned Uta as he noticed how effortlessly Byakuya evaded.

"I understand, Raven" Uta replied, adopting a more serious tone.

'Raven' was Uta's nickname for Yomo, derived from his crow-shaped mask.

As the two exchanged words, the quinque, came slicing toward them.

Uta unleashed his rinkaku to block.

The rinkaku kagune was renowned for its powerful regeneration and offensive capabilities. Rinkaku ghouls often possessed exceptional physical strength and agility, but their weakness lay in their defense.

This vulnerability was evident as Byakuya's quinque easily sliced through Uta's three kagune tendrils in one swift motion.

Feeling the overwhelming power of the quinque, Uta realized this weapon was at least SS-rated, if not SSS-rated. Could its wielder be a Special Class Investigator?

Yomo, recognizing the threat, quickly pulled Uta aside to avoid a lethal blow from Owl. His tone turned grave. "Go all out, or we won't stand a chance."

"You're right..." Uta muttered, discarding any further carelessnes.

When Uta fought with everything he had, it meant activating his half-kakuja form.

In an instant, multiple kagune arms sprouted from his back, each bearing the same tattooed patterns as his body. These kagune extended from his head but didn't cover his entire body, signifying his half-kakuja state.

Uta needed a brief moment to fully complete the transformation, and Yomo stepped in to buy time, releasing purple electric currents from his kagune to strike Byakuya.

Like Hikari, Yomo's kagune was unique, possessing an electrical attribute, a rare and formidable power.

However, the purple electricity had no effect on Byakuya, as his quinque absorbed the attack completely.

Though not the most defensive among quinques, the "Owl" could withstand ukaku kagune attacks with ease.

Yomo's interference gave Uta just enough time to finish his transformation.

"Come and fight, Investigator..." Uta growled, his voice tinged with madness as he teetered on the edge of sanity.

"Gladly" Byakuya replied coolly.

Feigning an opening, he baited No Face into attacking.

One of the tattooed kagune arms stretched out, grabbing Byakuya's ankle and pulling him into a massive kagune mouth.

Uta attempted to devour Byakuya but instead ended up swallowing his quinque.

Byakuya thrust the blade into Uta's kagune mouth, piercing through and destroying one of his kakuhou located in the back.

For rinkaku ghouls, the primary kakuhou was typically near the waist. However, kakuja ghouls often developed additional kakuhou in other locations.

With his head temporarily disabled and one of his kakuhou heavily damaged, Uta's partially berserk state made him lose all sense of reason.

Forgetting his true enemy, he turned on Yomo, driven by an insatiable hunger.

"I... I want to devour you... hehehe..."

"You idiot!" Yomo shouted in anger.

Dealing with Uta in his kakuja state was already challenging. Fighting both him and an elite investigator was a death sentence.

However, before Yomo could act, a flash of steel crossed his vision. Uta was cleaved in half at the waist, his kakuhou further destroyed.

Uta lay motionless, grievously injured and unable to regenerate for the time being.
