Question: You open a door and a muscle-bound stranger charges at you—what do you do?

Luo Yuan's reaction was swift.

At the first sight of Machamp barreling his way, he pulled back sharply.

But Machamp, who had clearly been lying in ambush, wasn't about to let him go that easily—it was faster than Luo Yuan, much faster.

Luo Yuan's eyes narrowed, a cool blue glow sparking to life in them as he threw up a psychic barrier in front of himself.

Yet this wasn't just any Machamp.

Experienced and exceptionally powerful, it sized up the psychic barrier in an instant and swung one of its four mighty arms against it.

CRASH!

The hastily summoned barrier shattered on impact.

Machamp's path cleared, it closed the gap with a follow-up chop aimed straight at Luo Yuan.

But that brief instant was enough; the distance Luo Yuan had managed to gain put him out of reach just as Machamp swung.

Yet Machamp was relentless, closing in fast. For a Pokémon like it, brute force and raw speed went hand in hand.

He wouldn't let this slide. Forced to play his own hand, Luo Yuan reached into Gengar's shadow and pulled out the enormous psychic spoon he'd won in the prize draw.

Hummmm!

Psychic energy coursed through the spoon, wrapping it in a glowing blue aura.

Machamp hadn't been prepared to see its opponent suddenly brandish an oversized spoon as a weapon.

With no time to dodge, it took the full brunt of the massive spoon.

WHAM!

With a dull thud, the charging Machamp flew back, propelled by Luo Yuan's strike like a rocket.

BOOM!

Machamp was sent crashing back into the prison truck, where it landed in a pile of crumpled metal.

"Whew..." Luo Yuan rubbed his temples, which throbbed slightly from the exertion of the psychic burst. He steadied himself in mid-air with a levitating pulse of psychic power and kept his gaze on the truck.

It trembled. Machamp staggered out, nursing a bruise where the spoon had struck, but otherwise seemed none the worse for wear.

But Luo Yuan wasn't watching Machamp—his eyes were fixed on the truck.

To raise a Machamp of this caliber, he could only think of one person in the Kanto region who could do it.

And sure enough…

Thud!

Following Machamp, a muscular man who rivaled Machamp itself for sheer brawn stepped down from the truck. Bare-chested and clad only in long pants, his presence was undeniable.

"Bruno of the Elite Four..."

Even though Luo Yuan had considered this possibility, seeing Bruno emerge confirmed it in a way that was both satisfying and daunting.

It seemed the League had spared no effort in today's operation.

Not only had they deployed Lance and Agatha, but they'd gone so far as to have Bruno pose as a prisoner, hiding in the truck to lure Rocket into a trap.

If it weren't for his own abilities, any other Rocket officer would've been blindsided and taken down by Machamp's surprise attack.

Down below, Bruno let slip a hint of frustration on his otherwise calm face.

"Close…" he murmured.

"Guess we should be flattered," Luo Yuan remarked dryly. "The League must think pretty highly of Rocket to send three of the Elite Four. Now, mind telling me where my captured team members are?"

A quick psychic scan of the truck revealed it was empty. Luo Yuan's suspicion had been correct. Lance was playing it dangerously by calling in every Elite Four member, leaving Johto completely exposed to any retaliation by Rocket.

But Bruno wasn't interested in chatting. With a sharp gesture, he called out, "Enough talk. Machamp!"

Under Bruno's command, Machamp barreled toward Luo Yuan and Mewtwo.

Halfway there, Machamp's legs bunched as it sprang high, all four fists raised to strike Mewtwo in an "X" pattern.

"Cross Chop!"

"Nice spirit, but... too inexperienced." Luo Yuan snapped his fingers, issuing a psychic command to Mewtwo through their mental link.

As Machamp rocketed toward them, Mewtwo's expression didn't change in the slightest.

Hummm—

Mewtwo's psychic shield flared into existence again, forming a wall that Machamp slammed into mid-air.

Mewtwo raised its hand, and with a flick of the wrist, the psychic barrier pulsed down on Machamp, pushing it toward the ground.

It wasn't simply a barrier—it was raw, crushing force.

Bruno's face tightened as he realized his miscalculation.

None of them had anticipated that the Rocket "prey" they were hunting might turn out to be a shark in disguise.

The Pokémon this Rocket executive had brought into battle was one Bruno didn't recognize, but whatever it was, it posed a serious threat.

Machamp strained to rise under the immense psychic pressure, but Mewtwo's power kept it firmly pinned.

Seeing this, Bruno's brow furrowed, and he called out, "Hitmonlee, to the field!"

Thud!

One of Kanto's top Fighting Pokémon, Hitmonlee was known for its elastic legs and devastating kicks. Hitmonlee had already seen enough from inside its Poké Ball to jump into action as soon as it was released.

"High Jump Kick!"

Without hesitation, Hitmonlee launched itself into the air, one leg stretching as it aimed for Luo Yuan in midair.

Seeing that some of the League's other trainers had begun to rally around Bruno, Luo Yuan made a snap decision.

The scene had changed since earlier; these trainers weren't the League's regular fighters. Bruno's Fighting Pokémon might be Psychic-weak, but he wouldn't underestimate an Elite Four member's tactical prowess.

"Mewtwo, Teleport!"

Mewtwo touched Luo Yuan's shoulder, and they vanished just as Hitmonlee's kick, along with a wave of other attacks, crashed into empty air.

In the blink of an eye, Luo Yuan and Mewtwo reappeared at another angle, hovering above Machamp as it struggled to stand, while Hitmonlee was pulling its leg back from the missed kick.

"Now," Luo Yuan ordered.

At his command, Mewtwo unleashed a psychic blast that radiated outward in all directions, slamming into the League Pokémon that were still on their feet.

Luo Yuan didn't want any distractions while interrogating Bruno about the location of the captured Rocket members.

And as far as he was concerned, the first step was to deal with every single one of these nuisances.
