Superpowers in the Marvel World

Chapter 46: Chapter 46

If there were a "fool's ranking" in the world, Alex was sure he would be in the top ten.

Even though he had confirmed that Vanessa Amelia had already fallen asleep when he left the house last night, when Alex opened the door, the first thing he saw was the little girl, fast asleep, sitting on the living room sofa!

This little one must have pretended to sleep when he came in to check, then stayed on the sofa waiting for him to return after he left. She had been there all along.

"Such a little fool!"

Alex sighed softly, both pitying her and silently blaming himself. She had just escaped from a life of constant running, and she was still not fully adapted to the new environment. In such a large, empty house, she was all alone. She must have been afraid of the loneliness, which was probably why she stayed there waiting for him.

Glancing at the time, it was only around five. Alex walked over, carefully lifted Vanessa off the sofa, and carried her to her bedroom on the second floor.

"No, I can't let her keep staying home like this. She needs to meet some new friends!"

After leaving Vanessa's room, Alex thought for a moment and then searched for the contact number Charles had left him, dialing it directly.

"Beep, beep..." After a few beeps, a soft female voice came from the phone, "Hello, this is Xavier's School. May I ask who's calling?"

"I'm looking for Charles. Please tell him Alex is trying to reach him," Alex replied politely.

"Oh, you're looking for Principal Charles? Please hold for a moment." After hearing that Alex's call was about Charles, the woman responded courteously, then transferred the call to the principal's office.

Soon, Alex heard Charles' magnetic voice on the phone.

"Alex, my dear young friend, what can I do for you?"

Alex rolled his eyes. "Can you drop the 'young' part, Charles?"

"Hahaha!"

Charles laughed softly. "Alright, my friend Alex. What's the matter? If it's about Vanessa Amelia's identification, you'll have to wait a few more days."

"What's the matter? Is something wrong?" Alex couldn't help but raise his voice slightly.

In this world filled with superheroes and supervillains, Vanessa, without any identification, could easily attract unnecessary trouble, and Alex couldn't help but feel anxious.

"Don't worry, Alex," Charles quickly reassured him, "There's nothing bad happening here."

"Then…"

Before Alex could finish his question, Charles explained himself, "The federal government has been dealing with some issues lately, and the federal agents who were helping me with mutant matters have been reassigned to other departments. So, for now, mutant identification documents and accommodations have to be delayed for a while. But don't worry, once this is over, the issue will be resolved."

"I see," Alex breathed a small sigh of relief, but then couldn't help but ask, "What exactly is going on with the federal government? Why are they in such a rush?"

"This is quite a troublesome situation. A male reporter told the police that a giant python was going to attack a girl, and it was related to the safety of the entire universe, so the police had to intervene immediately."

"Are you sure he's not mentally ill?" Alex asked in surprise.

"The police thought the same at first, but then, on the same day, a zoo keeper told the police that a giant python had swallowed five elephants in one go and almost ate him too. After investigation, the police found that five elephants had indeed disappeared from a zoo, and they also discovered some very special scales at a construction site. So, the federal government had to send in special agents." Charles explained.

"Hiss!"

Alex couldn't help but take a sharp breath. For a python to swallow five elephants in one go, it must be enormous!

He vaguely remembered that the largest giant snake discovered by scientists so far was the "Titanoboa," a prehistoric giant snake that reached 15 meters in length and weighed 1.2 tons, an incredibly powerful creature. But the "Titanoboa" was nothing compared to the one described by the zoo keeper. That snake was definitely something far more terrifying!

If what the zoo keeper and the reporter said was true, the US government must be in a full panic!

Just imagine, a giant python of unknown size could be living somewhere in the US, and it could swallow you at any time—no one would be able to bear that pressure!

After chatting for a while, Charles finally remembered the main issue and asked, "By the way, Alex, what did you need from me?"

"Look at me, almost forgot the main thing!" Alex slapped his forehead. "I called because I want Vanessa to go to school there. Is that okay?"

Without a second thought, Charles immediately agreed, "Of course, mutants are always welcome to come to school here. I'm also happy that Vanessa can join us."

Hearing Charles' response, Alex breathed a sigh of relief. "Great, I'll send her over today."

"So soon?"

"It can't wait!"

Alex sighed, "I don't have many people to talk to here. If Vanessa keeps following me around, she'll never have a chance to live a normal life!"

"Alright, we'll prepare in advance. Just come to Westchester in New York. I'll have Jean and Scott pick you up." Charles replied.

Alex thought for a moment and then said, "Okay, I'm in Flushing now. I'll be there soon."

"Then, I'll be waiting for your arrival at the school."

"I'm also looking forward to the school you've established, Charles. Looking forward to seeing you again!"

After chatting for a few more minutes, Alex hung up the phone, only to find that Vanessa had somehow woken up. She was standing at the bedroom door, looking at him pitifully.

"Alex, are you sending me away?"

Vanessa looked at Alex with a sad face, her big eyes filled with tears, as though she could start crying at any moment. Her ponytail had also drooped down, lifeless.

"Of course not."

Alex crouched down so that his eyes were level with Vanessa's, speaking gently, "Since the moment you came into this house, you've been a part of my family. How could I send you away?"

Vanessa looked at Alex, touched, but still sniffled, "But didn't you just say you were sending me to some place called Westchester?"

Alex smiled and lightly tapped Vanessa's small nose, "I'm sending you there to go to school and make some friends, not to send you away to someone else. You misunderstood."

"Really?" Vanessa asked, her eyes bright with hope, quickly wiping away her tears.

Alex nodded seriously, "Of course! I'm just sending you there to go to school and meet some friends your age. We can always meet up."

"But I don't want to leave you." Vanessa said reluctantly.

Seeing the deep reluctance and affection in Vanessa's eyes, Alex, who had been living alone since his transmigration, was suddenly shaken. His eyes became slightly red, and his heart began to seriously consider how to solve this problem. Finally, he spoke seriously, "…Hmm! Alright, since you don't want to leave me, I'll buy a house near the school. That way, you can see me every day. How does that sound?"

Buying a house near Westchester, even a cheaper one, would still cost at least hundreds of thousands of dollars. It was clear that Alex was willing to spend a significant amount of money just to make Vanessa feel at ease. However, as they say, "It's not your own money, so you don't feel bad about it." Alex's money was all earned from his exploits, and he had no hesitation in spending it.

"Mm, Alex is the best!!"

Vanessa, who had no concept of money, didn't realize these details. She was just so touched that she smiled through her tears, rushing over to hug Alex and burying her little head in his chest.

Though Alex was happy to be hugged by Vanessa, he couldn't help but chuckle to himself. "Spending hundreds of thousands of dollars just to make this little one happy... I'm starting to suspect that I'm not even a lolicon anymore!"
