Chapter 42: Chapter 42

The deafening music and cheers echoed nonstop. Men and women on the dance floor moved their bodies wildly, losing themselves to the beat. Under the flickering lights, the room was both lively and eerie.

"Drip! Drip! Drip!"

A young man searching the crowd for beautiful women suddenly felt something wet hit his face. Wiping it off and bringing his hand closer to inspect, he saw fresh, crimson blood.

He looked around. The men and women were engrossed in dancing, paying no attention to this strange occurrence. There was no obvious culprit flinging blood at him.

Puzzled, he looked up and saw that the ceiling was covered with lotus showerheads. Blood was dripping from the one directly above him.

"What the hell is this?"

Before his limited intelligence could piece together an answer, the showerheads suddenly sprayed out a thick, viscous liquid. In an instant, he was drenched in blood from head to toe.

"No, no, no, no!"

The young man screamed hysterically, but the blood kept gushing out like a faucet. Meanwhile, the people on the dance floor seemed to become even more excited. They screamed with delight, caressing one another in madness.

"Roar!"

Sharp fangs emerged from their lips. The blood-soaked dancers surrounded the young man, their glowing eyes terrifying him to the point of panic.

These weren't people. These creatures were all vampires!

"Oh God! No!"

The young man screamed like a madman. "Vampires really exist? And I've been wandering among them all this time? God, have you abandoned me?!"

Perhaps annoyed by his cries—or perhaps due to the inherent conflict between their races—the vampires sneered and began punching and kicking him.

"Bam! Bam! Bam!"

As an ordinary human, the young man was no match for the vampires. He was swiftly knocked to the ground, receiving blow after brutal blow.

"Shing!"

"Swish!"

"Clang!"

Three sharp sounds rang out. A burst of sword energy moved faster than silver bullets, striking the vampire guards at the door before they could react. Their attacks landed harmlessly on the wall behind them.

"Impressive!" Blade nodded approvingly at Alex, glancing at the silver bullets embedded in the wall.

After swiftly eliminating all the slaughterhouse workers, Blade and Alex stood before the vampire guards. Simultaneously, they launched their attacks—silver bullets and sword energy tearing through the air.

The sword energy, however, struck first, killing the targets instantly.

A familiar hum followed. The defeated vampires dissolved into countless particles that swirled around Alex before disappearing into his eyes.

"You're not an ordinary human," Blade observed.

"Do you think a vampire hunter could be ordinary?" Alex replied with a smirk, casually hooking his sunglasses onto his shirt pocket.

"Fair point."

Blade nodded in agreement. After all, he himself wasn't a typical human. His mother had been attacked by a vampire while pregnant with him, resulting in his unique hybrid nature—part human, part vampire. Immune to sunlight yet possessing vampire abilities, he was a rare breed: the Daywalker.

"Let's move."

Without dwelling on Alex's identity, Blade pushed open a man-sized door on the wall, striding in confidently with a swagger that radiated arrogance.

"This guy really knows how to show off," Alex muttered, rolling his eyes. "Doesn't he know the saying, 'Don't show off, or you'll get struck by lightning'?"

Inside the chaotic room, Alex and Blade saw a young man crawling on the floor, covered in blood, while blood-soaked vampires beat him mercilessly.

"Wow, you're in quite the mess, buddy," Alex said with a schadenfreude-laden grin.

"Is it him?"

"Oh God, it's him!"

"Dear heavens!"

The blood-spraying showerheads had stopped, the loud music had ceased, and every vampire in the room was now staring at Blade with dread. Even the man on the couch, previously indulging in debauchery, hurriedly stood up, forgetting his indecent exposure.

Fear was evident in their eyes. The vampires nearest to Blade began retreating involuntarily, their legs trembling.

"Buddy, you've got quite the reputation," Alex remarked with a chuckle.

Blade smirked coolly. "What, you didn't know? Rookie mistake."

"Ugh... You win."

Alex rolled his eyes. He'd never met anyone as shamelessly smug as Blade.

As the saying goes, silence can lead to either a quiet death or an explosive outbreak. Watching Blade approach with his weapons drawn, one of the vampires finally snapped.

"Come on, Daywalker!" a muscular vampire roared, raising his gun and aiming at Blade.

Blade was faster.

Before the vampire could fire, Blade's bullet hit him squarely, sending him flying into a wooden rack with a loud crash. The impact scattered objects everywhere, and the vampire rapidly disintegrated into ash.

The gunshot triggered chaos.

Some vampires charged at Blade, attempting to fight, while others screamed and fled in all directions. Ironically, these so-called superior beings acted no different from the humans they deemed beneath them when faced with danger.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Blade showed no mercy to the attacking vampires. Each shot was precise, quickly dispatching over a dozen brave but foolish attackers.

"Damn it, you're stealing my kills!"

Seeing the vampires turn to ash upon being shot, Alex cursed inwardly. Each one represented valuable spirit energy!

Without wasting any time, he activated his Annihilation Eye and joined the fray with his blade.

"Shing! Shing! Shing!"

Wielding his adamantium sword with immense force, Alex's strikes were unstoppable. In one sweep, he cut down seven or eight vampires, their bodies splitting cleanly in two.

The Annihilation Eye absorbed their essence instantly, converting them into pure spirit energy.

Alex didn't stop to admire his work. Moving at full speed, his sword became a blur of light, leaving a trail of fallen vampires in its wake.

"Not bad, huh?" Blade commented, watching Alex wreak havoc.

Never one to be outdone, Blade decided to up his game. With his ammo depleted, he threw his gun like a club, striking a vampire and sending him flying.

Smoothly spinning around, Blade drew another firearm and resumed firing. Each silver bullet was lethal, reducing the vampires to ash on impact.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Blade's relentless assault left Alex fuming.

"Damn it, can't you tone it down? That's precious spirit energy you're wasting!"

Even more infuriating, Blade mistook Alex's glare for a challenge. Smirking confidently, he quickened his pace, determined to outdo Alex.

"You...!" Alex seethed, on the verge of spitting blood.
