Chapter 250: The Demon Subjugation Hall
While Calvin, Erza, and Kagura had their chance encounter, something unfortunate was happening elsewhere in the capital.
Due to the Sabertooth guild's poor performance today, failing to score any points in either the competition or duels, Jiemma was particularly furious.
Sting got a severe scolding, but since he was one of the top five strongest in the guild, Jiemma didn't go too far. However, Yukino, who lost her match and was mercifully spared by Kagura, was not as lucky.
Jiemma ordered Yukino to strip off her clothes and remove the guild's emblem in front of everyone, humiliatingly expelling her from the guild. The expressions on everyone's faces were grim, especially Rufus.
Rufus had also experienced failure in this competition. Unlike Sting, who had an insurmountable weakness, Rufus lost due to insufficient strength. Yukino's ordeal made him think of his situation. Who knows if one day he might face the same humiliating expulsion?
After being expelled, Yukino approached Lucy to entrust her with two of the Celestial Spirit Gate keys, but Lucy refused, not wanting to sever Yukino's bond with her spirits.
After Yukino left, Happy and Natsu immediately chased after her to apologize. Earlier, when they encountered Yukino, Natsu, and Happy had mistakenly assumed she was a bad person. After getting to know her, they realized their mistake. Being the kind-hearted person he is, Natsu rushed to apologize.
His sincere apology and heartfelt words touched Yukino deeply, making her cry on the spot. The humiliation and bitterness she had endured erupted, and she sobbed uncontrollably.
Upon learning everything, Natsu was furious. Having grown up surrounded by the warmth of his guild, he couldn't accept such cold and cruel rules. He decided to storm Sabertooth's hotel.
That night, Natsu indeed showcased his strength, even suppressing Jiemma, the guild master, for a short time. It was Jiemma's daughter who intervened and threatened Happy, forcing Natsu to retreat.
However, it was clear that Natsu's disdain for Sabertooth had surpassed that for any other guild he knew.
Natsu's words before leaving also deeply affected some people.
The concept of "companions" was meaningless in Sabertooth. Rogue, one of the Twin Dragons, felt particularly resonant. Natsu's actions deeply shook him.
The night was far from peaceful, but dawn eventually arrived, and the third day of the Grand Magic Games began. Today's guest judge was Rahal from the Council, once in contact with Fairy Tail, and the leader of the detention force.
Today's competition theme was "Demon Subjugation Hall." Erza had already decided to participate, stepping forward confidently. Seeing her, Mermaid Heel's Millianna eagerly volunteered. Kagura, who initially intended to participate, yielded the spot to Millianna upon seeing her enthusiasm.
Fairy Tail Team B seemed unsure about who should compete, with all five members looking uninterested. Finally, four of them simultaneously turned their eyes to Zancrow, deciding he should represent them.
Fairy Tail's A and B teams were represented by Erza and Zancrow, respectively. Mermaid Heel was represented by Millianna, Raven Tail by Obra, Sabertooth by Orga, Blue Pegasus by Hibiki, and Quatro Cerberus by a young man with a white headband named Nobarly. Lamia Scale's guild master ordered Jura to compete to recover their lost points.
It was quite a coincidence that Jura and Zancrow would face off again, drawing a lot of attention. Everyone was eager to see if Zancrow would continue to win or if Jura would redeem himself.
At the center of the arena, a magnificent palace appeared instantly at the host's signal, a breathtaking sight.
The host explained the rules: The Demon Subjugation Hall was a temple inhabited by numerous evil monsters, totaling one hundred. These monsters, though magically conjured, were very powerful.
The monsters were divided into five levels of combat power: D, C, B, A, and S. D-level was the weakest and most numerous, with fifty monsters making up half the total. S-level was the strongest, with only one monster that could potentially rival even the strongest mages.
A demonstration of a D-level monster's strength showed that its combat power could rival Calvin's former Moonlight Silver Wolf.
The competition involved defeating these monsters. Participants would draw lots to determine the order, and then choose the number of monsters to challenge. Successfully defeating them would earn corresponding points. If a participant fell during the challenge, they would score no points and lose further qualification, though previously earned points would remain.
Crucially, the monster levels would be assigned randomly.
After the rules were explained, Erza luckily drew the first spot, while Zancrow drew the last.
The first spot theoretically allowed the most encounters with monsters but also the highest chance of facing the S-level monster. It was both a blessing and a curse.
After hearing the rules, Calvin clicked his tongue in dissatisfaction, "I should've been the one to compete. This is practically designed for me."
"You already competed on the first day," Gray remarked.
"There's no rule against the same person competing multiple times," Calvin retorted, still a bit disgruntled, but Gray ignored him, focusing on Erza's upcoming challenge.
Gray was curious about how many monsters Erza, known for her competitive spirit, would choose to fight.
"She wouldn't take on all hundred by herself, would she? No, no, even for Erza, that's too much," Gray muttered to himself.
"To ensure victory, challenging fifty-one monsters would be ideal. I think Erza would make that choice," Calvin suggested.
Gray nodded in agreement.
Erza, unaware of their discussion, sighed upon seeing her draw.
"Is luck the theme of this competition?" she mused.
The host quickly denied it, emphasizing the importance of strategy and judgment.
Erza simply chuckled, unimpressed, "No, I mean, I'll take on all one hundred monsters. My challenge count is one hundred."
Calvin and Gray immediately choked. They had guessed Erza's character but not her audacity.
"Seriously, a hundred monsters? Is she crazy?" Gray mumbled in disbelief, while Natsu laughed heartily, as if he had expected it.
"She must be under a lot of pressure and wants to vent. Fifty-one might not satisfy her, or she spoke out of anger. But even a hundred monsters are no match for Erza now," Calvin smiled, filled with confidence in Erza.
"Is she okay?" Lucy asked, worried.
Calvin reassured her with a smile, "Don't worry, she now possesses the world's strongest armor."
Regarding the Demon Subjugation Hall, I couldn't diminish Erza's brilliance. This is arguably her most spectacular moment in the entire Fairy Tail series, and I didn't want to change it.
