Chapter 4: Strongest Lottery System in Pokémon World [4]
Chapter 4: Breeding Knowledge
Viridian City Police Station
"It's not exactly ideal to spend your first day in a police station," Marcel thought as he leaned back in his chair.
After teaching the gangsters a lesson earlier, Officer Jenny had arrived just in time to witness the aftermath. She quickly arrested the group, but Marcel, as a key witness and participant, had to be brought in to provide a statement.
As Marcel mulled over the day's events, Officer Jenny walked over, setting a cup of coffee on the table in front of him.
"Thanks for your cooperation," she said with a slight smile. "But next time, please avoid using Pokémon moves on humans. It's dangerous and could easily lead to unintended injuries."
Marcel couldn't help but chuckle inwardly. He recalled how, when Officer Jenny arrived at the scene, the gangsters looked utterly defeated—some even relieved to see the police. It was rare to see criminals so eager to be arrested.
The memory brought a small smirk to Marcel's face. "Don't worry. I'm always measured. I was just... disciplining them a little. Besides, it was self-defense, right?"
Officer Jenny nodded, her expression softening. "You're not wrong. They did threaten you first, and your actions fall within the boundaries of legitimate defense."
Marcel's knowledge of the League's law worked in his favor. As a former League Enforcer Trainee, he had a far-thorough understanding of what constituted self-defense.
"These gangsters will face charges for threatening a League official, disturbing public order, and condoning Pokémon-related offenses. They'll be imprisoned for at least three months," Officer Jenny added firmly.
Marcel was pleased with the outcome. Three months in prison was a fair punishment—not too short to forget the consequences, but not so long that they'd lose touch with society.
"I wouldn't be surprised if some of them turn over a new leaf after this," Marcel mused.
Before leaving, Marcel made a quick stop at the interrogation room to have a "chat" with the gang leader. The once-arrogant pilot-haired thug now sat subdued, his bravado completely shattered. The brief encounter left no doubt in his mind—Marcel was not someone to cross.
---
By the time Marcel stepped out of the police station, the sun was already setting.
"Guess I'll have to visit Oak's Research Institute tomorrow," he muttered.
He made his way to the Pokémon Center in Viridian City and checked in for the night. As he lay on the bed, he decided to finally address the system.
"System, where's the reward I earned earlier?"
[The host has one normal ticket remaining. Would you like to proceed?]
"Let's do it," Marcel replied without hesitation.
[You have used a Normal Lottery Ticket… Drawing…]
[Congratulations! You have obtained Pokémon Breeding Knowledge (Elementary)!]
[The reward has been stored in your backpack.]
"Breeding knowledge? What's that supposed to mean?" Marcel asked, puzzled.
[Pokémon Breeding Knowledge (Elementary): Includes foundational methods for raising various Pokémon.]
[Note: Don't expect to become a master Pokémon breeder. At best, this will help you become a competent caretaker.]
Marcel's eyebrow twitched at the sarcastic comment. "This system really knows how to humble a guy…"
Despite the dismissive tone, the reward intrigued him. Marcel realized that while he had a solid understanding of Pokémon battles, his knowledge of Pokémon care was severely lacking. If nothing else, this would ensure he didn't accidentally harm his Pokémon through neglect.
"Alright, let's learn it."
The moment he activated the reward, a flood of information poured into his mind. It detailed everything from Bulbasaur's preferred food combinations to proper massage techniques for Charmander and the best ways to clean Squirtle's shell.
The influx of knowledge left Marcel dazed for a full ten minutes.
"Who knew raising Pokémon was this complicated?"
Before crossing into this world, Marcel had assumed that caring for Pokémon was as simple as feeding them on time. Now, he realized just how naive that belief was.
To test the accuracy of the information, Marcel prepared a meal for Bulbasaur using the recipes from his newly acquired knowledge.
"Bulba!"
Bulbasaur's reaction was immediate—it eagerly devoured the food, eating with an enthusiasm Marcel had never seen before. Normally a picky eater, Bulbasaur would take two meals to finish what it now gobbled up in one sitting.
Marcel smiled as he watched his companion eat. The knowledge was far more useful than the system had given it credit for. In fact, Marcel felt confident that he could pass the Pokémon Breeder Qualification Exam with what he now knew.
"It seems the system underestimated the value of this reward," Marcel said, feeling a newfound sense of pride.
Looking down at Bulbasaur, now full and content, Marcel gently stroked its head before returning it to its Poké Ball.
"Alright, time for bed. Tomorrow, we head to Professor Oak's lab to get the Pokédex."
With the moon high in the sky, Marcel drifted off to sleep, his mind filled with plans for the journey ahead.
