Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 251: Chapter 248

"Come!"

Freya gritted her teeth, retrieved her wooden sword, and charged at Lucas again. This time, she gripped the sword with both hands and swung it downward toward his head, determined not to underestimate him anymore.

"Your flaws are too obvious!"

Lucas shook his head. His single-handed wooden sword once again stabbed upwards from below, meeting Freya's sword hilt with a precise strike. Her sword was stopped dead in its tracks, leaving Freya with no leverage to continue the attack.

"Once again..."

Freya's ember eyes narrowed, and she took a step back, slowly regulating her breath to calm her restless heart.

"Ha!" With a sharp cry, Freya lunged forward again…

"You've already lost. Your movements are too wide. If your opponent strikes faster than you, you won't have the chance to swing your sword."

"No, when you swing, you need to hold back a bit. Don't unleash all your strength at once."

"..."

Mina, Tony, and the others were stunned. To them, Freya had attacked repeatedly only to be defeated over and over again. Now it seemed like she was the one being taught the basics of combat.

Half an hour later.

"Ha... that's enough for today."

Lucas exhaled a long breath of hot air and waved his hand to stop Freya, who was still eager to continue. He said, "We'll practice again next time. I have other matters to attend to today."

"..."

Freya's ember eyes were filled with complex emotions as she gave Lucas a knight's salute, turned, and walked away without saying a word.

Today, she had seen what it meant to be outclassed. There was always someone stronger. Lucas had calmed her restless mind, showing her that strength was the key to clear thinking.

For Freya, nothing worked—no motivational speeches or sweet words. Only strength could snap her into clarity.

"Young master, is she okay?" Mina blinked her eyes and asked softly. "Do you think she's lost confidence after you defeated her?"

"She's fine! Anyone who has been searching for Annie for years can't possibly be that fragile." Lucas tossed the wooden sword aside. Among the beastkin women in the castle, Freya's willpower was ranked in the top three.

"True," Mina smiled faintly and draped the coat over Lucas's shoulders.

"Tell them to get ready. We're heading to the No. 4 armory. A new batch of military supplies has arrived." Lucas instructed.

"Understood!" Mina nodded.

….

After a breakfast that was both delightful and full of competitive spirit, Lucas, along with Mina, Annie, and Freya, headed out, as the others were busy with their own tasks.

They were going to the old military warehouse in Sedona City, which had now been repurposed into a secure storage facility, primarily for military supplies.

Sedona City had five such secure warehouses. The finished goods armory was ranked fourth, and this warehouse was used to store various military equipment and supplies.

The No. 4 finished goods armory was independent of the Military and Political Department, essentially a logistics point warehouse. Only when the department received orders would they send supplies from this warehouse.

"Young master!" Jack was already waiting outside the warehouse.

Jack was now primarily in charge of logistics and no longer involved in military training.

In any era, logistics were always crucial in times of war or natural disasters. In wars where combat strength was nearly equal, the outcome often depended on the logistics support.

"Let's go!" Lucas nodded and walked ahead, his eyes scanning the surroundings. He was quite satisfied with the security here; at least they had guards stationed every few steps, with watch posts every five paces.

Soon, Lucas and his group arrived at the heavily guarded No. 4 finished goods armory. After passing through some security checks, Jack pushed open the warehouse door, revealing shelves stacked with supplies inside.

There were many new pieces of fine steel armor, with regular deliveries from the military industry academy. Currently, the warehouse has over a hundred sets of heavy armor.

"..." Freya's ember eyes widened as she looked around in curiosity, amazed by the sight. Many things here surprised her.

She had never believed that humans were smarter or more skilled than the beastkins, but today, she had to admit it. The black armor sets before her made her envious; they were far better than the worn-out armor she had been wearing.

"Where are the new supplies brought in today?" Lucas turned around and looked around, not seeing what he was expecting.

"They're inside the warehouse," Jack quickly responded, leading the way into the deeper part of the warehouse. There, on a large wooden table, were small paper boxes the size of shoe boxes stacked on top of each other.

Lucas stepped forward and tore open a paper box, revealing strips inside, each about the width of two fingers. The strips were wrapped in paper, but this paper was coated with waterproof oilpaper.

"Young master, what are these?" Annie stood on her tiptoes and asked, "They're wrapped in oilpaper—this must be quite expensive."

Freya pursed her lips, her ember eyes filled with complexity. After today's morning training and with Annie continuously persuading her, she had temporarily stopped dwelling on the issue of the titles.

"Of course they're expensive. Guess how many copper coins this one piece costs?" Lucas held up a strip and said mysteriously, "If you guess correctly, there's a prize!"

"Let me think..." Annie picked up a piece and weighed it in her hand, realizing it was pretty heavy. What could it be wrapped in this oilpaper?

"I guess it costs ten copper coins!" Annie boldly guessed.

"Five copper coins," Mina softly said. She didn't know what it was either, but often Lucas would give it directly to the research department in the form of a document, asking them to study and manufacture it, then come back for his evaluation.

"Wrong on both counts!" Lucas shook his head, a glint of amusement flashing in his dark eyes.

He slowly peeled away the oil paper, revealing a grayish solid with flecks of dark red embedded inside. Then, to the stunned eyes of the others, Lucas placed the solid in his mouth and slowly, with difficulty, took a bite.

"Young master, is this edible?" Annie asked in disbelief.

"Of course. This is called military compressed rations," Lucas frowned, explaining. The taste in his mouth wasn't great, but he had to slowly soak it with saliva to make it more bearable.

"Military rations?" Mina was equally surprised. She picked up a piece of the compressed ration, tore it open, and shoved it into her mouth.

"So hard!"

She could only bite off a small piece. Mina could taste a mixture of ingredients, like wheat flour, dried meat, and salt.

"I'll try some too."

Annie also tore open a piece of the compressed ration and popped it into her mouth. She frowned, struggling to bite into it, but eventually managed to break off a piece.

It felt almost like eating a lollipop, with the food slowly melting in her mouth.
