Starting Today I'll Work As A City Lord

Chapter 250: Chapter 247

In the morning!

"Ka-chi!"

Lucas pushed open the door, and the cold wind from outside hit him directly, instantly wiping away his sleepy thoughts and making him shiver involuntarily.

"Young master, you're dressed a bit too lightly." Nicole's voice came from behind. She immediately draped a coat over Lucas's shoulders.

"I already took care of it!" Lucas waved his hand and started walking toward the morning training grounds.

"You're up really early today. Is it because Mina didn't sleep with you?" Nicole tilted her head. When she came to collect things in the morning, she had already noticed that Lucas was awake.

"Be careful when moving the things, don't drop them." Nicole instructed the maidservants who had come to help with the packing.

"Yes, ma'am!"

"…"

"The winter here really is cold. The wind comes in waves!" Lucas exhaled a puff of warm breath, gazing up at the overcast sky. It seemed like snow was on its way again.

The rooftops around him were capped with white, like they were wearing little white hats, and the snow piled on the bare branches of the trees made them look like they were blooming with tiny white flowers.

"Ha!"

"Bang! Bang! Bang!!"

Before Lucas could reach the morning training grounds, he heard the sound of a sharp shout followed by the clashing of wooden swords.

"It seems like the wolfgirl isn't in a good mood this morning." Lucas muttered to himself as he recognized the sharp shout.

Mina's training usually involved no sound, like an assassin, silently launching attacks.

By the time Lucas reached the training ground, he saw Mina and Freya sparring. Their slender figures darted through the air, flipping and leaping in fast movements.

Freya was wielding a large wooden sword, while Mina had two short swords. One was making broad, powerful strikes, while the other relied on her agile movements, closing in to find weaknesses. The fight was intense.

"Young master, if this goes on, they might get hurt." Tony said with concern.

"It's fine. Neither of them is using their full strength. They're holding back." Lucas replied softly.

He was no longer the same Lucas who had just crossed over. After all, he had fought bandits and trained for some time. His eyesight had improved with practice.

Sure enough, after a few more exchanges, the two separated. Morning practice wasn't about winning or losing—it was for physical training and refining skills like swordsmanship and archery, not for real combat where victory mattered.

"Whoo... Whoo..."

The two were already experts at controlling their breath, wiping sweat from their foreheads. If they didn't, it would turn into ice shards in the cold air.

"Young Master, good morning!" Mina greeted cheerfully, running up to Lucas.

The past couple of days, Mina hadn't been sleeping with Lucas. Despite her reluctance, she understood the need for space. She knew that if she stayed glued to him every day, others might not say anything outright, but there would definitely be resentment bubbling underneath. Perhaps this was Mina's way of being considerate, always thinking of others.

"Good morning. Looks like I'm a bit late again." Lucas said with a light chuckle.

"We've only been at it for a little while," Mina shook her head, flicking her cat tail playfully. "Young Master, would you like to spar with me today?"

"Sure," Lucas nodded, shrugging off his coat and handing it to Tony, who quickly caught it. He then took the one-handed wooden sword offered by Tony.

"Miss Mina, may I take a turn?" Freya approached, carrying two wooden swords, her voice serious. "Let me at least contribute. It's my way of showing gratitude for the care you've given to the Princess these past few days."

Freya was still uneasy about the fact that last night, Annie had called Lucas "Young Master." Although she had talked a lot with Annie after that, and Annie had explained everything—from meeting Mina to coming to Sedona city—Freya still wasn't completely comfortable.

She genuinely appreciated Mina, and this morning, she had waited outside Mina's room and gave her a respectful knight's salute. But when it came to Lucas, Freya wasn't so pleased. In her eyes, Lucas seemed to be deliberately drawing Annie closer, maybe even harboring improper intentions toward her.

"Uh..." Mina glanced at Lucas with her eyes. She had a sense that Freya held some inexplicable hostility toward him, which troubled her a bit.

"No problem, Mina can rest for a while," Lucas said as he flicked his wooden sword. He understood Freya's concerns—she likely wanted to take Annie away, fearing that staying in his territory wouldn't be safe enough.

Having such thoughts was a sign that Freya was a competent knight. After all, for a beastkin princess to live in human noble territory, the potential dangers could send chills down anyone's spine, and Freya was right to be on alert.

"Please, teach me, Sir Lucas!" Freya gripped her wooden sword tightly, a sharp glint flashing in her ember eyes. She wanted to teach Lucas a lesson, make him show more respect toward Princess Annie.

"Come at me!" Lucas narrowed his eyes slightly, focusing on his alertness. The pressure coming from Freya was intense. This was the aura of someone who had killed many, forged from countless battles.

Lucas had sparred with Mina before, not just once, but each time was limited to light exchanges. He hadn't truly gone all out to compare their strengths, so he wasn't sure where his own abilities stood.

Anyway, even when all four of Ben's sons attacked together, they weren't a match for him now. Today, he would use Freya to test his skills and get a feel for where his strength was at.

"Be careful!"

In an instant, Freya sprang into action, swinging her large wooden sword toward Lucas. The force of the blow was full of lethal intent, a manifestation of the wolfgirl's natural battle aura. She intended to overwhelm Lucas with a single strike, hoping to embarrass him.

"Don't underestimate me." Lucas's lips curled into a smile. Suddenly everything started to move in slow motion in Lucas's eyes. His mind instinctively processed the information, and he could already predict Freya's next move.

Instead of retreating, Lucas advanced. In the stunned gaze of Freya, his single-handed wooden sword rose from below, striking the hilt of the large wooden sword she was holding with precision.

"Bang!"

The large wooden sword was instantly knocked from Freya's grip, spinning through the air and landing a great distance away. Freya stood frozen, unable to comprehend what had just happened. She hadn't even completed a single strike, and her weapon was already disarmed?

"How... How is this possible?" Freya stared in shock at Lucas, then down at the calluses on her palms. She couldn't believe it. When had she become so weak? If this had happened against a grand knight from the Kingdom of Siacan, she would have accepted it. But now, she was up against a small noble from a tiny place.

"I told you, don't underestimate me." Lucas said, flicking his wooden sword casually. To him, Freya didn't pose much of a threat—her power wasn't even on the same level as Mina's.

Mina's agility and perception were extraordinary. Although they hadn't fought at full strength, Lucas knew he wouldn't have been able to defeat Mina with a single strike. At the very least, it would have taken three moves or more.

The change in Lucas was mainly due to his constant travel between worlds, honing his body and strengthening his physique. His reaction time had been sharpened over time, and his reflexes improved a lot.

"Do you want to try again?" Lucas smirked, the cold wind tousling his black hair, giving him an air of inexplicable confidence.
