"Solarys: The Legacy of the Eternals"

Chapter 3: In the Middle of the World

Lyria slowly opened her eyes. Her body was still weak, but the air was fresh, and the sound of the wind rustling through the trees brought her a brief sense of calm. Kael stood nearby, arms crossed, gazing at the horizon as if calculating his next move.

LYRIA: (struggling to sit up) "Did we make it...? Did we reach Earth?"

KAEL: (turning toward her, nodding slightly) "Yes, we made it. This is Earth."

Lyria let out a sigh of relief, but she quickly noticed the tension on Kael's face. She stood up with effort, leaning on her sword, and took in her surroundings. It was an unfamiliar place—a mixture of natural beauty and distant buildings.

LYRIA: (looking around) "Where are we exactly? This place doesn't look like anything I've ever seen before."

KAEL: (pointing to the horizon) "We're in a country called Ecuador. Specifically, we're in a city named Quito, also known as the Middle of the World."

LYRIA: (frowning) "The Middle of the World? Why here? What's so special about this place?"

KAEL: (looking directly at her, his voice firm) "It's part of the plan. I'll explain everything later. Right now, we have more urgent matters to deal with."

Lyria noticed the seriousness in his tone and, though she had more questions, decided to trust him for now. However, something about his words unsettled her.

LYRIA: (crossing her arms) "You always have a plan, Kael. But I don't like it when you keep important details from me. What aren't you telling me?"

Kael took a deep breath, as if preparing to reveal something he had kept hidden.

KAEL: (his voice low, almost a whisper) "Lyria... there's something you need to know. But first, we need to adapt to this world. We can't walk around like this... we need mortal bodies."

LYRIA: (startled) "Mortal bodies? Are you saying we need to take over the bodies of humans?"

KAEL: (nodding slowly) "It's the only way to blend in. Our real forms draw too much attention, and we don't have time for questions or suspicion."

LYRIA: (with a mix of doubt and distrust) "I don't like this, Kael. We haven't done something like this since... since that time on Solarys. Are you sure it's necessary?"

KAEL: (meeting her gaze) "It is. This time, it's not just about us. It's about everything we swore to protect. Trust me, Lyria. There's no other choice."

Lyria remained silent for a moment, studying Kael's face. His words carried a weight she couldn't ignore, and though a part of her wanted to protest, she knew he was right.

LYRIA: (finally nodding) "Fine. But you'd better know what you're doing. Because if this goes wrong, there's no turning back."

KAEL: (with a faint smile, though his eyes remained serious) "I always know what I'm doing... or at least, I try to make it look that way."

Lyria let out a small huff, the only hint of humor amidst the tension. The two began walking toward the distant city, fully aware that what lay ahead would be anything but easy.

The Encounter in the Rain

As they descended toward the city, the sky darkened rapidly, and a storm broke out without warning. Rain poured in torrents, and lightning illuminated the sky as if the gods themselves were announcing their arrival. Kael and Lyria pressed forward, ignoring the water soaking their clothes. But as they walked, something caught Lyria's attention.

LYRIA: (stopping abruptly, her eyes wide) "Kael... what are those things?"

Kael turned to her and followed her gaze. Among the humans rushing to find shelter were massive figures, about seven meters tall. They appeared humanoid but had crimson wings, and their eyes burned like embers. The humans moved through them, oblivious to their presence.

KAEL: (calmly) "They're demons."

LYRIA: (alarmed) "Demons? Are you saying those things have been here all along, and humans can't even see them?"

KAEL: (nodding) "That's exactly what I'm saying. To humans, these creatures are invisible. But to us, they're very real. Look twelve kilometers to the north."

Lyria squinted, using the superior vision of a Solarys native to spot another group of figures in the distance. These, however, were completely different. They glowed with white and golden light, radiating a serene yet unsettling presence.

LYRIA: (whispering) "And those...? What are they?"

KAEL: "Angels. But don't look at them too long. We don't want to attract their attention."

LYRIA: (confused) "I thought angels and gods in this world were just human myths. Stories they made up."

KAEL: "Far from it. But we don't have time for this now. We need to move. The storm is worsening, and we need human bodies as soon as possible."

The Conflict

They continued through the rain until they came across three humans arguing under the downpour. Thanks to their heightened senses, Kael and Lyria could hear every word.

BOY 1: (yelling at the girl) "How could you do this to me?! I gave you everything! And you betrayed me with my best friend!"

GIRL: (coldly, crossing her arms) "I never asked you to do anything for me. You decided to do it all on your own."

BOY 2: (mockingly) "Come on, man. Let it go. She's with me now. Move on."

The first boy collapsed to his knees, punching the wet ground as tears mixed with the rain. The other two walked away laughing, their figures fading into the storm. Kael observed the scene with an unreadable expression, while Lyria stood by, frowning.

LYRIA: (softly) "That girl... she seemed to enjoy his pain."

KAEL: (coldly) "They're inferior beings. Their emotions rule them, and that's why their civilization advances so slowly."

Kael stepped forward, approaching the boy. Lyria watched silently, her unease growing.

KAEL: (calmly) "Does it really make sense to cry for someone who never valued you?"

The boy looked up, his face a mixture of rage and confusion.

BOY 1: "Who the hell are you? Did she send you to mock me too?"

Kael remained calm, his voice steady.

KAEL: "No one sent me. I'm here because I can help you."

BOY 1: (laughing bitterly) "Help me? How? Are you going to turn back time? Undo what she did?"

KAEL: (taking a step closer) "I can't undo the past. But I can give you something better: the power to never feel this weak again."

BOY 1: (sneering) "Power? What the hell are you talking about? You sound like a lunatic."

Kael extended his hand.

KAEL: "Let me enter your body, and I promise you'll never feel powerless again."

BOY 1: "You're completely insane. What's next? Are you going to wave your hands and steal my soul? Fine, go ahead. Show me your magic trick, genius. I dare you."

Kael's eyes glowed as a dark aura surrounded them. The boy froze, feeling an overwhelming energy engulf him. His last thought was a mix of fear and surrender.

When Kael opened his eyes, he was no longer in his original body. Lyria approached cautiously, glancing at Kael's empty form on the ground.

LYRIA: "Did it work?"

Kael, now speaking through the young man's voice, nodded.

KAEL: "It worked. Now it's your turn."

The rain intensified, cloaking the moment in tension as Lyria stared at Kael's new form, her unease growing.
